The purpose of this thesis is to analyze DVD covers for the genre romantic comedy from the 2000s as a way to obtain patterns and codes provided by the genre. The theoretical framework consists of previous research that analyzed various posters, theories about semiotics, genre, and visual rhetoric.  These theories will help answer the main question and help with the analysis. The objects for observation are ten DVD covers from the genre romantic comedy and a qualitative content analysis is used for this thesis. The movies are from the US and they are all high in Box Office. Box Office stands for how many tickets were sold and how much money a film has earned. The use of numbers from Box Office shows that the movie had a successful marketing prior coming out as DVD. The analysis focuses also on movies from the year 2003 – 2012 as a way to get a ten years gap and also get the contemporary movies. The results show that there are codes and patterns provided from various DVD covers. Visual expressions as clothing, angles, perspectives, postures, facial expressions and colors say a lot about how the genre is visualized. It's also important for these visual expressions to work together – as they tell a story about the relationships and the characters, and also what the movie is going to be about. The main conclusion is that the woman is usually the one who is in focus and she is the active one. This doesn't necessary mean that the woman is in a higher position when it comes to the society or that she'll always have the upper hand in the relationship, but she is the one that has the upper hand right now. It's also clear that the DVD covers show when the couples aren't happily ever after. / Syftet med uppsatsen är att analysera DVD-omslag för genren romantisk komedi från 2000-talet för att få fram mönster och koder som ges från genren. Det teoretiska ramverket består av tidigare forskning som analyserat olika affischer - samt teorier om semiotik, genre och visuell retorik. Dessa teorier används för att svara på frågeställningen och för att hjälpa till vid analysen. En kvalitativ innehållsanalys har analyserat tio olika DVD-omslag för genren romantisk komedi. Filmerna som analyserats är från USA och anses som höga inom Box Office. Begreppet Box Office står för hur många biljetter som har sålts och hur mycket pengar en film tjänat in. Användingen av siffor från Box Office visar att filmen hade en lyckad marknadsföring innan den kom ut på DVD, vilket gör att den används för denna analys. Analysen fokuserar sig också bara på filmer från år 2003 – 2012 då man får ett mellanrum på tio år och filmerna blir samtida. Resultatet från den kvalitativa metoden visar att det finns koder och mönster som ges från olika DVD-omslag. Visuella uttryck som kläder, vinklar, perspektiv, kroppshållning, ansiktsuttryck och färger påverkar mycket hur ett DVD-omslag uppfattas och säger mycket om hur genren visualiserats. Det är också viktigt att dessa visuella uttryck arbetar ihop då de tillsammans berättar något om relationerna, karaktärerna och vad filmen kommer att handla om. Slutsatsen visade att kvinnan oftast är den som är i fokus och aktiv. Detta betyder inte nödvändigt att kvinnan är i en högre position i samhället eller att hon kommer alltid att ha övertaget i relationen, men att hon styr just nu. Det är också tydligt att DVD-omslagen inte visar när paren är lyckliga i alla sina dagar.

Šiandieniniame pasaulyje duomenys yra viena vertingiausių prekių. Svarbių ar slaptų duomenų praradimai gali padaryti didelę materialinę žalą. Duomenų apsaugos priemonėms yra išleidžiamos milžiniškos pinigų sumos. Darbo metu analizuojami esami duomenų apsaugos įrankiai ir metodai, gilinantis į duomenų apsaugą pernešamose laikmenose, CD ir DVD diskuose. Analizės metu surinkti duomenys apie duomenų apsaugą nuo kopijavimo ir peržiūrėjimo bei panaudojimo naudojami eksperimente siekiant nustatyti tinkamiausius metodus būsimai programinei įrangai, skirtai duomenims apsaugoti. Vykdant eksperimentą siekiama patikrinti šifravimo algoritmų laiko sąnaudas. Tam tikslui atliekamos šifravimo ir dešifravimo operacijos su 10 MB ir 100 MB failais. Sukurta sistema leidžia apsaugoti duomenis CD ir DVD diskuose nuo neteisėto peržiūrėjimo ar panaudojimo. Sistemos pagalba sukurti apsaugoti duomenų diskai, be jokios papildomos programinės įrangos, yra panaudojami kituose kompiuteriuose, kuriuose įdiegta Windows XP/Vista/Win7 operacinė sistema. / In the current world data is one the most valued items. Loss of relevant and secret data may cause huge material harm. Grant sums of money are spent for data security methods. In the paper the available tools and methods of data security are analyzed, security methods for CD and DVD media are discussed. The information collected on the data copy-protect and cryptography as well as use security is used in an experiment aiming to identify the most fitting methods for software of data security. The implementation of the experiment is aimed at checking the time input for cryptography algorithms. For this purpose the crypt and decrypt operations with 10 MB and100 MB files are performed. The developed system allows to keep data safe from illegal review and use in CD and DVD. Safety data records developed with the help of the system may be used without any extra software in other computers in which Windows XP/Vista/Win7 operation system is installed.

This creative project consists of a short fiction film which is finished on DVD and features a full length video commentary. The video commentary is an invention of my own which utilizes an often overlooked element of DVD technology, the multi-angle ability, to effectively merge two of the most popular features of modern motion picture DVD releases: the director's commentary and the production documentary. The disk actually contains two tracks of video, each of identical length. One is the film; the other is a documentary on the making of the film, with certain sections that correspond in real time with events in the film. The user has the ability to switch between tracks at anytime for comparison. This to my knowledge has never been done before, and because of the enormous popularity of the DVD and these features, may find widespread application. This project, while only an exploration of its potential, shows that the idea has feasibility and legitimacy. / Department of Telecommunications

Denna uppsats berör frågan om hur formatet påverkar användarupplevelsen. De format som har undersökts är streamingtjänster och DVD/Blu-Ray, eftersom de erbjuder samma typ av media. Efter en kvalitativ analys av åtta intervjuer med tillgängligt utvalda informanter, visade det sig att DVD/Blu-Ray uppfattades generellt som föråldrat och mindre tillgängligt än streamingtjänster. / This thesis concerns the questions of how the format affect the user experience. The formats which have been researched are streaming services and DVD/Blu-Ray, as they deliver the same type of media. After a qualitative analysis of eight interviews with available informants, it was demonstrated that DVD/Blu-Ray was generally regarded as aged and less available than streamingservices.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Intellectual disability (ID) is considered a high-incidence disability affecting approximately 1.2 million adults in America (Brault, 2012). Diagnosed before the age of 18, ID is characterized by poor intellectual functioning, difficulty with adaptive behaviors, and problems with activities of daily living. Adaptive behaviors include practical, social and conceptual skills. Individuals with ID may lack the ability to personally care for themselves, self-direct and display naïve decision-making capabilities. Activities of daily living, such as maintaining one’s health, are influenced by poor adaptive behaviors. Between the years of 1997 and 2008, the prevalence of developmental disabilities, including ID, has increased 2.2% and while there is research dedicated to determining the risk factors causing ID, there is a continued need to research adaptive behavior management (Boyle et al., 2011). Current research in adaptive behavior focuses on determining best practices in order to help adults with ID thrive in schools, the workplace, home, and in the community. Adaptive behaviors related to healthcare, self-direction, and personal care still continue to be an area of adversity for the population and research on prevalence of healthcare-related problems are growing (Ervin & Merrick, 2014). Health concerns increase with the severity of the ID as well as age (Moss et al., 1993; Schrojenstein et al., 1997). Over 40% of adults with ID will develop four or more chronic diseases with an increase in age (Hsieh, Rimmer, & Heller, 2012). In the typical population, there is a plethora of evidence demonstrating that regular physical activity (PA) reduces the risk for chronic diseases, specifically all-cause mortality, colon and breast cancer, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression (American College of Sports Medicine, 2013). However, the number of adults with ID participating in regular PA is considerably lower than the typical population. This lack of participation increases individual risk for secondary health conditions. With diminished capabilities in adaptive behaviors, there are significant issues that affect this population’s ability for self-care and independence in health-related care. Additionally, there are limited opportunities for individuals to take steps to improve his or her ability for self-care. Improving the availability of quality instruction for PA and adherence may increase overall PA and reduce incidence and prevalence of chronic disease in adults with ID.

Indelible is a performance and dance research project. It has three outcomes or pathways, presented on DVD-ROM, via which the user-reader can experience multi-modal perspectives on remembering, memory, and representing performative ideas, events and actions. These pathways are video, writing and interactive and together they form a series of hypermedia framings by which the corporeal and philosophical underpinnings of the project are witnessed. The research is considered to be practice-led, in which my practice consists of choreographic strategies, physical actions, media-based processes, and writing. Within these core representations I have sought to confront the methodological and theoretical paradox affecting performance makers electing to recontextualise their work beyond live processes. How might the absence or disappearance of a so-called live work contribute to the overall design and representational practices underlying the outcomes? In this sense the three pathways that comprise Indelible generate a complex network of artistic, scholarly, poetic, and methodological layerings or enfoldings in which the user-reader is presented with possibilities for experiencing the vital subjectivity and inherent fallibility of memory and remembering. The dissertation was developed using Didactic Engineering, passing through the steps of previous analyses, a priori concepts, application of experience and a posteriori analyses. This work presents the results obtained with these study groups, awards won by students in 2013 and also the results obtained in the motivational issue much required for mathematic education. Still on the work, are made critical analysis of issues of proof of OBMEP 2010, OBMEP 2011, OBMEP 2012 and OBMEP 2013 (first and second phases), with students and teachers feedback about the content addressed in evidence and with the mathematical theory that each one presented. The work presents the making of an educational DVD, non-profit, with resolutions of issues of OBMEP 2013 (second phase) elaborated by the participating students of the second phase and by the school Mediator, DVD which will be exposed in the Blog of the school and Will serve as material for dissemination of OBMEP 2014 at school and in the municipality. / Essa dissertação apresenta o estudo feito na escola municipal Professor Valdomiro Casagrande da cidade de Dois Córregos-SP sobre as Olimpíadas Brasileiras de Matemática das Escolas Públicas (OBMEP 2013); trabalhando com grupos de estudos que buscavam uma melhor preparação dos alunos para as provas da 2ª fase no ano de 2013. A Dissertação foi desenvolvida utilizando a Engenharia Didática, passou pelas etapas de análises prévias, concepções a priori, aplicação da experiência e análises a posteriori. O presente trabalho apresenta os resultados obtidos com esses grupos de estudo, na questão das premiações conquistadas pelos alunos no ano de 2013 e também os resultados obtidos na questão motivacional tão necessária para a educação matemática. Ainda nesse, são feitas análises criticas de questões das provas da OBMEP 2010. OBMEP 2011, OBMEP 2012 e OBMEP 2013 (1ª e 2ª fases), com comentários dos alunos e dos professores sobre o conteúdo abordados nas provas e com a teoria matemática apresentada em cada uma. O trabalho apresenta ainda a confecção de um DVD educativo, elaborado pelos alunos participantes da 2ª fase e pelo professor Mediador da Escola, sem fins lucrativos, com resoluções de questões da OBMEP 2013 (2ª fase), material esse que será exposto no BLOG da escola e servirá para divulgação da OBMEP 2014 instituição e no município.
