The purposes of this study were (a) to determine the significant events leading to the relocation of Bishop College, (b) to describe the programs offered at the college, (c) to identify a president and describe his impact on policy and programs in the college, (d) to describe the student population that attended the college during the period studied, and (e) to identify the causes and subsequent events which led to the closing of the college.

The general purpose of this study is to make a survey of children's library work in the United States with special attention to recent trends and developments in this field as revealed in current practice. The specific purpose is to make an evaluation of the services rendered by the children's division of the Dallas Public Library and to determine how this department measures up to the standards set up by the American Library Association and by individual authorities.

The purpose of this study is to provide a sound curriculum for the junior high school based on the psychological, sociological, and democratic needs of youth. One of several reason given for the establishment of the junior high school was to adjust the curriculum to the needs of youth.

The limnological investigation of any body of water is undertaken in order to secure more accurate information concerning the factors which play an important role in fish production or sanitation. This study shows the qualitative and quantitative planktonic algae in Lake Dallas, for the year 1937-38.

This study intends to discover the extent and use of job evaluation in selected business concerns in Dallas, Texas, and through this discovery to derive conclusions which may indicate current trends in the use of job evaluation in this section of the country.

During the Second World War the United States mobilized its industrial capacity to become the great "Arsenal of Democracy," as vehicles, ships, and small arms flowed out of American factories. Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment was the mobilization of the aviation industry, which grew rapidly after the war began in Europe. In 1940 the United States produced 24,600,000 pounds of airframe. By 1943 this figure had grown exponentially, with 760,926,600 airframe pounds produced. This was achieved through the cooperation of the United States government and the aviation industry. It required creative techniques in funding and manufacturing, and the construction of expansion facilities throughout the country, including Dallas, Texas. The city was selected as the site of a factory operated by North American Aviation. This plant produced some 18,784 aircraft in all, making it one of the most prolific in the country. This dissertation is a study of the North American factory in Dallas. It begins with decisions leading to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's call for 50,000 aircraft in May of 1940. From there the focus moves to the selection of Dallas as a location, the construction and opening of the factory, its operation, its relations with the local community, and the closure of the facility at the end of the war. Utilizing government documents, company records, and news reports from the era, the dissertation is constructed in a chronological narrative format. It serves a dual purpose as a case study for how industrial mobilization was achieved, as well as documenting the contributions that the citizens of Dallas made towards the war effort.

The purpose of this study was to record and interpret the methods and procedures employed in the operation of the centralized system of the athletic program in the white senior high schools of Dallas, Texas, for the years 1931 through 1940.

The problem involved in this study was twofold. The first was to ascertain what the employment requirements were for a person seeking employment in the field 6f electronics as a technician in the Dallas Metropolitan Area. The second was to determine what the job opportunities were for those individuals.

This study is a historical analysis of the significant events from 1971 leading to the establishment of The Criswell College and a depiction of the actions of key individuals contributing to the development of The Criswell College.

This report explores the long-term demographic changes occurring near Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) stations. The study area chosen to employ the shift share method consists of two segments of DART stations along the Red Line in Dallas, Texas. The downtown DART study area consists of census tracts surrounding light rail stations: Cedars, Convention Center, Union Station, West End, Akard, St. Paul, and Pearl, and the DART suburban study area consists of census tracts around the following stations: City Place, Mockingbird Station, Lovers Lane, Park Lane, Walnut Hill, Forest Lane, and LBJ/Central. Using the shift share method with demographic data obtained through the US Census Bureau from 1990 and 2005-2009 American Community Survey estimates, this analysis illustrates demographic changes over time as a result of light rail transit investments. The results indicate that demographic characteristics of residents have changed considerably since the introduction of light rail in Dallas. Although the growth trends in the DART neighborhoods are comparable to the growth trends of the city, the DART census tracts on average have experienced greater increases in population, attracted an influx of highly educated residents with higher household incomes, and experienced significant increases in high-density development surrounding transit stations. For the most part, growth has been stronger locally than on a citywide level, and these trends have occurred most noticeably in the downtown DART neighborhoods, where transit and financial measures have sparked a development boom in which total population and housing units have grown by the hundredth and even thousandth percentile. Additionally, these demographic changes create unintended consequences that affect people of varying socio-economic statuses. Although the shift of highly educated, wealthier individuals in neighborhoods creates a greater social mix among residents, lower-income residents of these transit neighborhoods quickly get priced out of their neighborhoods. / text
