________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / In order to evaluate the unbalance levels of voltage samples obtained from field measurements taken over a determined period, it is common to use first order statistics. However, in this type of study procedures capable of determining the reliability of said statistics are often neglected. As a result, questions arise whether the average is an adequate metric, or whether the measurement period normally called for by norms (7 days) is sufficient to conduct an adequate power quality assessment. On overview, many important factors arise to be considered. A notorious one is related to the season and time, that contributes to a random component to the voltage unbalance and affect directly any methodology used for its measurement. Therefore, duration and period are important questions about performance evaluation judgment. This study proposes three recursive estimation algorithms for the mean and one to the variance of K factor. Besides, similarity between these algorithms is assessed using Mahalanobis Distance and also a metric is described for the reliability of such statistics and its changes when different monitoring time intervals are considered ( at this study, one week and thirteen weeks). All algorithms results showed similarity of 95%, indicating a convergence of them. About the metric, were obtained that its results can significantly vary depending upon the time period used. The main contributions of this study are: proposition and implementation of the algorithms; validation of the metric employing real data from Brazilians power transmission system; and assessment of the stationary behavior characteristic of voltage unbalance used by Brazilians regulation.

The roots of Jehu’s bloody coup : a violent story of religious Zealots, retributive justice or international politics?

Mokoena, Lerato Likopo Dinah January 2018 (has links)
The study undertaken in this dissertation developed out of my honors research essay titled “A socio-political view of land acquisition in 1 Kings 21:1-16 as a form of dehumanization.” The previous research essay serves as a precursor for the current study. Naboth’s loss of his הלחנ (inheritance), resulting in his death under the rule of Ahab, is considered by scholars as one of the possible roots which served as a basis for Jehu’s coup as retributive justice for Naboth. It is, therefore, the aim of this paper to investigate all the possible roots of Jehu’s coup adopting a holistic approach in explicating all contributing factors and to interrogate the extreme use of violence. Following the death of Naboth in 1 Kings 21:1-16, and a further mention of Naboth’s death and the acquisition of his vineyard in 2 Kings 9-10, the murder of Naboth prompted and sparked a debate of whether Naboth’s death was avenged as Jehu executed his coup. An investigation into Jehu’s coup opened up more doors of research as it became apparent that many other factors became intertwined with the coup narrative. The apostasy of the Northern Kingdom also brought an element of idolatry into the scheme. The prophets Elijah and Elisha are introduced into the narrative through the anti- Jezebel redaction to invoke a Yahwism theme. Jehu was then a Yahwistic revolutionary who was being obedient to Yahweh during his bloody extermination of the house of Ahab. Archaeological evidence (i.e. Tel Dan) would later defy the claims of the narrative as they are presented in the Old Testament, this then led to an investigation and an inquiry of how Jehu is related to all factors tied to him. How is Jehu’s coup related to Tel Dan, Naboth, and the prophetic agenda of Elijah and Elisha? / Dissertation (MTh)--University of Pretoria, 2018. / Old Testament Studies / MTh / Unrestricted

Le dan bâu (monocorde calebasse vietnamien). Étude organologique et ethnomusicologique / The Vietnamese Monochord Dan Bâu. An Organological and Ethnomusicological Study

Truong, Thi Hanh 25 November 2009 (has links)
The dan bâu is a variable tension, monochord chordophone, specific to Vietnam. Chinese historical records from the Xth Century describe the baoqin among instruments from Funan, Champâ, and Pyû, which means present days Indochina, while Vietnamese records only start from 1777 (Lê Qui Dôn), followed by descriptions, sketches, and photographs by travellers and ethnographers. It appears that at the turn of XXth century the instrument was played by blind street musicians. During this century, it has become one of the characteristic sounds of Vietnamese musical culture, through modifications in its building, the materials used, and in its playing, which now incorporates the systematic use of controlled harmonics. The addition of an electro acoustic chain of amplification has been an important contribution to its integration as a concert instrument. It can be taken as a perfect example of a traditional instrument integrated into modernity. The organological study, including a description of the instrument, its variants and techniques of building, opens to an overview of the various monochords in Asia. The musicological study presents the modal system with its idiomatic ornaments, the large repertoire. It is completed by a study of the playing techniques and an acoustic analysis. The teaching of the instrument and its music inside of the conservatories is exposed through the publication of a manuscript by a Master. The work ends with a proposition about the use of the dan bâu in the context of music therapy.

Arte, Arquitetura e Cidade nas investigações de Dan Graham / Art, Architecture and City in the investigations of Dan Graham

Almeida, Rafael Goffinet de 27 April 2016 (has links)
This study investigates the production of the American artist Dan Graham, focusing on the close relationship he mantained with the architecture and the city throughout his carrer. Held in very diverse mean and supports, the production of this artist is quite representative of the contemporary art development from the 1960s, marked by overcoming artistic codes that culminated in the disruption of physical boundaries behind museums and galleries. Through the interventons in magazines, performances and installations, his recent steel and glass pavilion and the extensive production of texts, Graham mobilized different contents stemmed from ields such as psychology, cinema and also the architecture to investigate the condition of art, culture and spatiality in contemporary society. By the juxtaposition of his works and his writings, which most explicity the deals with external issues to the art, it is possible to identify the articulation of Graham´s practice and thought, observing more deeply his relections on the social and cultural structures operating in speciic spatial contexts, either inside the art gallery or outside of it. At the end, it is expected that the synthesis of these isseus allow us to reveal the new perspectives built by Dan Graham on the ield of Architecture and Urbanism, pointing questions from a external and different nature: his aesthetical proposals inquire the contemporary city forms of production, especially in relation to cultural and social nature of their spaces.

Gouentoueu, Gilbert. January 2000 (has links)
Thesis (M.Th.)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2000.
