[pt] A RELAÇÃO ENTRE A CULTURA E O DESEMPENHO ORGANIZACIONAL NUMA INSTITUIÇÃO DE SEGUROS / [en] THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CULTURE AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN AN INSURANCE INSTITUTION

25 June 2018 (has links)
[en] Understanding how organizational cultures interfere with a company s performance, and what are the important cultural characteristics to leverage this performance, is extremely relevant in increasingly competitive and dynamic markets. Therefore, the objective of this work is to analyze the relationship between Culture and Organizational Performance. From the literature review, a case study was conducted in a private insurance company, which stands out in the market in which it operates, being among the largest independent insurers in Brazil in Life, Private Pension and Savings Bonds and over the years, received awards and participated in the most important national financial rankings, gathering certifications that reinforce the credibility, the performance and the excellence in its management. The survey collected data on the results of organizational performance, more specifically the result of the financial indicators - Return on Sales (ROS), Return on Asset (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) and, by applying the Denison Organizational Culture Model - DOCS questionnaire to managers, it was possible to evaluate the key characteristics of the organizational culture, under the dimensions of Mission, Consistency, Involvement and Adaptability. The qualitative analysis of the data collected showed that there is a relationship between the results of the cultural dimensions and the indicators of profitability and suggests the importance of future research on this subject in other organizations.

Microbiological Treatment of Wastewater from a Wood-Preserving Plant

Ralston, James R. 08 1900 (has links)
This research investigates interacting biological, chemical, and physical factors affecting the efficiency of microbiological wastewater treatment at the W. J. Smith Wood- Preserving Company in Denison, Texas. The treatment process consisted of collecting exhaust boiler water containing unidentified boiler treatment compounds, steam condensate contaminated with preservatives and wood extracts, plant process waters, and rainfall runoff from plant grounds. With a 5-minute residence time, wastewater was passed over 2 oxidation towers in series, each containing approximately 47,000 square feet of surface area. Suspended solids were removed from the wastewater before discharge. Various amino acids such as serine, aspartate, cysteine, phenylalanine, alanine, proline, glycine, histidine, and tyrosine significantly stimulated phenol degradation in the laboratory. The plant wastewater contained approximately 0.1 mg/l of several of the stimulatory amino acids. It was assumed that these concentrations provided maximal stimulation in the field situation. The plant wastewater also contained sufficient nitrogen to permit the organisms to degrade up to 100 mg phenol/1 of water examined. Amino acids in the wastewater probably serve as a source of microbial nutrition. Toxicity of the wastewater to fish was not caused by the presence of phenol, phenol degradation products, or traces of pentachlorophenol. The wastewater was rendered non-toxic by diluting with between 4 to 9 volumes of stream water. Toxicity could also be removed by chemical coagulation followed by activated carbon adsorption. As a result of biological treatment, the plant now discharges the treated wastewater into the municipal sewage treatment facility.

The contribution of F. D. Maurice to the nineteenth century discussion of the atonement in Britain

Richardson, Robert Neville January 1971 (has links)
From Introduction: Frederick Denison Maurice is generally remembered in connection with the rise of Christian Socialism. That his activities in this Movement were the most important aspect of his career is doubtful. ... Maurice's fundamental theological principles were: first, the idea of unity - unity in the Godhead, "Unity in Trinity", and unity among men in the human family; secondly, the Fatherhood of God - a Fatherhood which had at its heart the principle of sacrificial love. The events of Maurice's life proved to be fertile ground for the growth of these convictions. It was these convictions which shaped his whole understanding of the Atonement. Davies (3) points out that, in his teaching on the Atonement, Maurice turned away from the Western and Augustinian insistence that the basis of man's relationship to God was the Fall, and held, with the theolo Gians of the Eastern Church, that Christ's redemption of man is best understood as a restoration of man's relationship to God in Creation.

Reliability of the Denison Organisational Culture Survey (DOCS) for use in a financial institution in South Africa

Franck, Chrisstoffel Jacobus 30 June 2005 (has links)
A survey of literature has revealed that there is a need for a reliability study of the Denison Organisational Culture Survey (DOCS) for use in a financial institution in South Africa. The major objective of this research was therefore to determine the internal consistency reliability of the DOCS - in other words, to determine the accuracy or consistency with which the set of survey items measures one particular scale. The total sample of 2 735 individuals used in this research consisted of both male and female full-time employees of a financial institution in South Africa. The results of this introductory study on the reliability of the DOCS in South Africa demonstrated clear support for similar research conducted abroad and proved to be compatible with the cognitive-behaviouristic psychology movement's original concept of organisational culture. The reliability of the DOCS, as applicable to this South African sample, reflects statistical significant internal consistency. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Comm.
