Modelo de sistema para gerenciamento de conhecimentos explícitos em abordagens de DFA (Design for Assembly) / Management model for explicit knowledge in DFA (Design For Assembly) approaches

Uma importante fonte de vantagem competitiva para muitas empresas é a capacidade de criar projetos de produtos compostos por um número pequeno de partes e de fácil montagem sem deixar de atender às expectativas do consumidor, denominada abordagem DFA - Design For Assembly (Projeto para Montagem). Para o reprojeto ou para reduzir o custo do projeto de novos produtos com esse foco, é necessário obter informações que podem estar muitas vezes armazenadas em locais de difícil acesso e nas mais variadas formas de repositórios do conhecimento. Uma maneira de obter essas informações é criar uma classe sistema, chamada peer-to-peer, que permite a sincronização e compartilhamento desses documentos entre cada local espalhado numa rede. Esse tipo de sistema busca a descentralização das informações, ou seja, estas ficam espalhadas pela rede (interna ou externa) com a vantagem de que cada organização poderá manter sob sua \"guarda\" as informações sem nunca dispô-las em servidores de terceiros e estas poderão chegar automaticamente até os usuários por meio de transações XML. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é desenvolver uma ferramenta de auxílio à gestão do conhecimento que atue na geração, codificação e transferência do conhecimento sobre técnicas DFA. A avaliação de soluções existentes foi utilizada como metodologia para propor um modelo teórico que especifica o desenvolvimento do sistema. Pode-se concluir que esse tipo de sistema fornece aos participantes meios de coleta de informações mais eficazes, já que informações sobre DFA podem ser consultadas. / An important source of competitive advantages for many organizations worldwide is the capacity to create projects for products consisting of a small number of parts of easy assemblage, nonetheless attending to the consumers\' expectations, named DFA approach - Design for Assembly. In order to re-project or decrease the expenses caused by designing new products aimed at such, it is necessary to retrieve information data which might be stored in inaccessible places and in a large variety of knowledge repositories. A way of retrieving this data is the creation of a system class, called peer-to-peer, which allows these documents to be synchronized and shared among terminals connected to a network. This system aims at decentralizing data, that is, they are spread throughout the network (internal or external) with the advantage that each company may protect the information by not making it available in computers belonging to third parties. Moreover, this information can automatically reach users by means of XML transactions. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop a tool to help knowledge management work in generating, codifying and transferring knowledge concerning DFA techniques. The assessment of available solutions was used as a method to propose a theoretical model which pinpoints the system development. It can be concluded that this type of system provides the users with means to collect data more efficiently, since DFA data may be accessed.

Digital assembly process design for aircraft systems

The research described in this thesis concentrates on the development of an integrated assembly process design for aircraft systems. Assembly process design is one of the most important and complicated activities in aircraft manufacturing. Many solutions are suggested in previous research to develop process design method. But gaps are found in assembly process design of aircraft system in following studies. In this research, an integration approach which combined with product development philosophy, design for assembly method and digital assembly technology is proposed to solve the issues in the whole product development lifecycle. Three case studies from different design phase are used to examine the integrated process design method. The research results demonstrate that the proposed digital process design method can be used to develop manufacturing strategies of system assembly in early design phase, and improve the accuracy and operability of assembly instructions according to 3-D assembly process plans in detailed design phase. The product design also benefits from this method in terms of correcting design errors in the concurrent engineering process. A proposed process planning system framework based on lightweight CAD is developed in this research. The customized assembly representation of 3DVIA system illustrates the advantages of lightweight CAD when applying in shop floor.

Design, Manufacturing, and Assembly of a Flexible Thermoelectric Device

This thesis documents the design, manufacturing, and assembly of a flexible thermoelectric device. Such a device has immediate use in haptics, medical, and athletic applications. The governing theory behind the device is explained and a one dimensional heat transfer model is developed to estimate performance. This model and consideration for the manufacturing and assembly possibilities are the drivers behind the decisions made in design choices. Once the design was finalized, manufacturing methods for the various components were explored. The system was created by etching copper patterns on a copper/polyimide laminate and screen printing solder paste onto the circuits. Thermoelectric elements were manually assembled. Several proof of concept prototypes were made to validate the approach. Development of the assembly process also involved proof of concept prototyping and partial assembly analysis. A full scale device was produced and tested to assess its thermoelectric behavior. The resulting performance was an interface temperature drop of 3 °C in 10 seconds with 1.5 A supplied, and a maximum temperature drop of 9.9 °C after 2 minutes with 2.5 A supplied. While the measured behavior fell short of predictions, it appears to be adequate for the intended purpose. The differences appear to be due to larger than expected thermal resistances between the device and the heat sinks and some possible degradation of the thermoelectric elements due to excess solder coating the edges.

No contexto industrial atual, verifica-se que as organizações empresariais vêm buscando atualização na utilização de métodos e técnicas para o desenvolvimento de produtos. A busca incessante por tal atualização tem se justificado nos últimos anos em função da globalização da economia, na qual as empresas veem-se imersas em um cenário de alta demanda por qualidade, menor preço, menores prazos de lançamento do produto no mercado e menor permissibilidade na ocorrência de erros, fatores estes diretamente responsáveis por seus índices de competitividade. Este trabalho visa aplicar a metodologia denominada Design for Assembly (DFA) como ferramenta de auxílio no desenvolvimento do projeto conceitual de um dispositivo funcional, com o objetivo de comprovar a eficácia de tal teoria em projetos industriais. Tal metodologia é utilizada no desenvolvimento de produtos, tanto em situações de inovação quanto em situações de re-design, visando facilitar as atividades dos operadores durante a montagem de um determinado produto. Através da simplificação da estrutura do projeto, eliminando componentes desnecessários, integrando partes e reduzindo o número de sistemas de junção, obteve-se, uma redução no número de peças, na massa e nas dimensões do dispositivo, causando, por consequência, um impacto nos custos de fabricação. / In the present industrial context, it is verified that business organizations are seeking for updates in the use of methods and techniques for the development of products. The continual search for updating has been justified lately because of the globalization of the economy, in which context the companies are located that requires a higher demand for quality, low cost, shorter periods for launching a product in the market and few possibilities of errors, factors which are directly responsible for their rates of competitiveness. This project aims to apply the methodology called Design for Assembly (DFA) as a helping tool in developing the conceptual project of a functional device, with the objective of proving the efficiency of this theory in industrial projects. This methodology is used in the development of products, both in situations of innovation as well as of re-designing, aiming at making the operators'duties easier when they assembly a product. Through the simplification of the project's structure by the elimination of unnecessary components, the integration of pieces and the reduction in the number of junction systems, was obtained a reduction in the number of pieces, in the mass and in the device dimentions, thus causing an impact on the production costs.

Basic Engineering Time : Assembly Time Driven by Product Design

In today’s competitive automotive market, many of the world’s leading organizations utilize the Lean manufacturing philosophy in order to increase productivity and stay competitive. With this philosophy come many great methods for improving processes, where focus is put on reducing or eradicating any actions or process that fail to create value for customers, the so-called waste. However, one question that remains is how fast a process actually can be. Having “40% waste”, how can one know if this is the endpoint of a successful efficiency improvement journey, or if the waste can be reduced all the way down to 0%? This Master thesis seeks to identify where this endpoint is located for a specific design of the product, aiming to help organizations allocate improvement work to where it does the greatest impact. Hence, knowing if the endpoint for a process already is reached, organizations can steer improvement work to R&D departments instead of trying to improve something not capable of improving. The findings show that organizations can use the results from this study in more than just one context. Not only will it complement the Lean philosophy by providing a measure of the absolute shortest durations for each individual activity or process under ideal conditions, but also will it facilitate communication between R&D and assembly departments at an earlier stage of the development process by quantifying the impact of different design choices on the total assembly time.

CBR-DFMA: A Case-Based System Used to Assembly Part Design in the Early Design Stage

Many conflicting issues exist between product design and manufacturing department. In the early design stage, designers often do not have enough expertise to successfully address all these issues. This results in a product design with a low level of assemblability and manufacturability. Hence, an intelligent decision support system is needed for early design stages to improve a design. This paper proposed a web-based intelligent decision support system, CBR-DFMA, connecting with a case base, database and knowledge base. Early experimental results indicate that potential design problems can be detected in advance, design expertise can be effectively disseminated and effective training is offered to designer by employing this system.

Utveckling av ett adaptivt munstycke för bassängrengöring / Development of an adaptive pool cleaner attachment

Detta är en rapport som beskriver utvecklingen av ett produktkoncept som är tänkt att ersätta Weda:s SD-enhet. SD-enheten är ett munstycke som kan tillverkas från 1𝑚 upp till 10𝑚 brett i bockad plåt och sitter installerad på en drivenhet. Denna ersättare av SD-enheten ska göras mer anpassningsbar efter olika bassängstorlekar och billigare i tillverkningskostnader. Baserat på kundkrav, problemställning och till följd av en utvecklingsprocess togs det fram fem koncept där samtliga stöds av grundläggande fakta, teoretiska tillverknings och monterings aspekter samt flödessimuleringar. Dessa fem koncept sattes emot varandra i en sållnings matris för att sedan gå vidare med ett koncept som vidareutvecklades med hjälp av projektverktyg som QFD och DFA. Slutligen utfördes en laboration med en prototyp med syfte att undersöka och stärka projektets beräkningar. Avslutningsvis analyseras resultaten som ställts upp mot projektets mål och kundkrav för att värdera om projektet har lyckats eller ej. / This report describes the development of a product concept that’s supposed to replace Weda's SD-System. The SD-System suction nozzle is scalable from 1 𝑚 up to 10 𝑚 wide out of bent sheet metal and is installed to a driving unit. The new pool cleaner attachment concept is supposed to be more modular to fit different basins and be cheaper in manufacturing. Based on customer requirements, the problems description and the development process, five concepts were developed. All the concepts are supported by basic facts, theoretical manufacturing and assembly aspects as well as flow simulations. These five concepts were opposed to each other in a screening matrix and then proceeded with a concept that was further developed using project tools such as QFD and DFA. Finally, a laboratory exercise was performed with a prototype and the purpose of investigating and strengthening the project's calculations. Finally, the results that are set against the project's objectives and customer requirements are analyzed to evaluate whether the project has succeeded or not.
