Civil Society And Democratization In Turkey: A Critical Evaluation Of Civil Society-democracy Relationship In The Context Of Turkey-eu Relations

Yesiltas, Ozum 01 September 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis tries to analyze the role of civil society within the process of democratization in Turkey with special reference to the impact of civil society policies of the EU on the internal operating styles of civil society organizations in Turkey. In this respect, a critical evaluation of the said issue was tried to be put forward in the sense that the extensive discussions on the concept of civil society were examined and gathered with the observations and empirical evidence gained on the subject in order to reach an answer on the very nature of civil society-democracy relationship. In doing this, the purpose was to uncover the reasons behind the recent popularization of the concept as an indispensable precondition of democracy and to question whether certain circumstances exist under which the term may rather harm than enable the process of democratization. Within this framework, the consideration of the civil society policies of the EU implemented in Turkey was seen as all the more necessary because of the fact that the process of Turkey&rsquo / s EU membership has major implications for not only the process of democratization in Turkey, but also on the development of civil society as a significant part of this process. In accordance with the purpose of the study, in order to understand the extent of democratic capacity of civil society organizations in Turkey and the impact of the EU in that sense, a field research was conducted in Ankara, Turkey with the participation of 46 CSOs active mostly in the fields of women, children, disabled, human rights and environment. Through the field research, the main purpose was to understand the dynamics of the internal operating styles of those organizations, their views concerning the relations between CSOs as well as between the CSOs and the state on the one hand, to measure the extent to which their participation to civil society programs of the EU influence their intra-organizational structures on the other. According to the results of the field research, over the experience of 46 participant organizations, an analysis of the extent to which the EU-implemented civil society programs serve for the building of democratic capacity of civil society organizations in Turkey was tried to be made.

Dambrauskienė, Aelita 26 June 2014 (has links)
Vývoj vztahu dítěte a dobrovolníka v Programu Pět P / The evolution of the relationship between child and volunteer in Program Five P

NOHEJLOVÁ, Pavla January 2010 (has links)
The issue of the child {--} volunteer relation development in the Five Ps Programme is a really sensitive one. No research dealing with the child {--} volunteer relation development has been performed yet in the Czech Republic. The child {--} volunteer relation development research is based on mapping changes within the eight dimensions of a relation as per Hinde´s theory (1988). The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the Five Ps programme itself, its brief history, handicaps and benefits. The theoretical part also deals with relations in general and the relation child {--} volunteer in the Five P programme and its development. The thesis is aimed at mapping the child {--} volunteer relation development in the Five Ps programme upon changes in the above eight relation dimensions. The practical part employed the questioning method, the technique of structured interview with open questions, the method of participant observation and document analyses. The research sample consisted of 15 respondents (5 volunteers, 5 children, 5 legitimate representatives of the children). The survey was performed at the regional Five P Programme Centre in Písek. The results of the work consist of analyses of interview with the volunteers, children and legitimate representatives after three months and after ten months of a relation, then observation of each couple during common activities, analyses of supervision records and meeting minutes. Two hypotheses arose from the results. The first is: The child {--} volunteer relation in the Five P programme develops in eight dimensions as per Hinde´s theory (1988). The other hypothesis is: Each child {--} volunteer relation in the Five Ps programme develops differently. The thesis also includes practical recommendations, particularly to beginning Five Ps coordinators. These recommendations present examples of questions by which changes in the individual relationship dimensions may be monitored and the relationship development better observed. The thesis may be useful either for beginning coordinators in the Five Ps programme or for those having longer experience in coordinating the couples in the programme.

Program rozvoje venkova v období 2007-2013: Hodnocení plateb za přírodní znevýhodnění poskytované v horských oblastech a plateb poskytovaných v jiných znevýhodněných oblastech (LFA) / The Rural development program 2007-2013: The evaluation of payments provided in the mountain areas, and payments provided for a natural disadvantage in other less-favoured areas (LFA)

Sobotková, Kateřina January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the meaning of agriculture in the country area and its effect on the development of the rural areas. My goal is to evaluate the actual realization of resources, which are spent on the support of farmers, who practice in areas with less favourable conditions. This is performed on a regional analysis of the number of handed and accepted requests and on the amount of the land usage in disadvantaged areas with the result that my thesis will concentrate on the evaluation of a regional differentiation. This diploma work will deal with the issue of what kind of the Czech agricultural disadvantaged areas happen to use the financial resources in terms of LFA, and what are the main factors of such differentiation in the relation with the aims of this support. The theoretical part of this thesis targets on the country development and the meaning of agriculture in the country area. It describes methods and approaches of determination of the rural area and less-favoured areas. It also characterizes the Rural Development policy in Czech Republic. The analytical part of this work contains a regional payment analysis (in the concept of the rural area) for a natural disadvantage provided in the mountain areas, and payments provided in other less-favoured areas (LFA) in the programming period 2007-2013 in the Czech Republic. For this regional analysis there are used data especially from the implementation organ SZIF, data from the Agricultural Accounting Data Network FADN, and finally data from the Annual Report of the Rural Development Program. Such data are interpreted on the basis of the method of cartographical projection. Farther, this thesis tries to find out if the aim of such action is realized. On account of the performed analysis, my thesis summarizes acquired findings and draws consecutive conclusions from the realization of support.

Teacher Practice, Curriculum, and Children's Moral Development in Buddhist Temple Preschools in Thailand

Phisalaphong, Rathdow 12 1900 (has links)
This study investigated what constitutes a moral development program in Buddhist temple preschools in Thailand. The researcher employed three qualitative methods: structured, in-depth interviews, observations of teachers' instruction, and document analysis of curriculum guides. Four Buddhist temple preschools were selected as the sites. Participants for interview included three abbots and one head nun, four principals, and twelve teachers. Participants for observations included four teachers of third year classes in each preschool. The study concentrated on four research questions: (a) what are the elements of the character education curriculum? (b) How do teachers teach moral development concepts and skills? (c) What are the teachers' perceptions of the moral development of third year preschoolers? (d) How do teachers assess their pupils' moral development? Key findings for the research questions were: character education was not a subject in the National Preschool Curriculum which was implemented in the Buddhist temple preschools. Core morality was integrated into every topic. The moral behaviors emphasized in the curriculum and the lesson plans included discipline, mindfulness, kindness, helpfulness, patience, honesty, respect, thriftiness, and politeness. The Buddhist concept of the process of moral development includes character education and meditation. The preschoolers were trained to pay respect to teachers and parents as an obedience approach to character education. Preparation of teachers included screening for their values and pre-service training. The instruction of meditation was approached gradually and aroused the children's interest. After three years of schooling, the third year preschoolers were well-behaved, helpful, and kind; no aggressive behaviors were reported. The assessment of moral development of preschoolers was based on observation of the teachers throughout the school year. Implications for practice are discussed, including procedures for gathering information on beliefs, attitudes, and culture of the parents before implementation of different models of moral development. Finally, future research directions are proposed.
