Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction of ADSLBroadband Network¡GA Case Study of Chunghwa Telecom

Leu, Wen-Jong 03 July 2002 (has links)
Title of Thesis¡GService Quality and Customer Satisfaction of ADSL Broadband Network¡GA Case Study of Chunghwa Telecom Total Pages¡G108 Name of Institute¡GGraduate Institute of Information Management National Sun Yat-Sen University Graduate date¡GJune,2002 Advisor¡GChin-fu Ho Name of Student¡GWen-Jong Leu Abstract The open telecom market causes the telecom business to be competitive and obvious and each telecom company invests an amount of cost to gain more customers. As a result of the increase in consumer consensus, most telecom companies are dedicated to create a variety of newer, faster and more stable telecom products and consistently lower the prices. Besides, in order to sustain loyal customers and attract new customers, providing high-quality service becomes the most important strategy. Even though Chunghwa Telecom today has taken a great part in ADSL market, it should think much of customers and make an effort to provide them with good ADSL broadband network products¡Bservice quality and satisfactory service to defend and enlarge the market. This thesis discusses ADSL broadband network, service quality, customer satisfaction and the development of Chunghwa Telecom. The structure of this study is constructed based on the concept to SERVQIAL submitted by three scholars like Parasuraman(PZB) and the research on the users of Chunghwa Telecom ADSL in Kaohsiung area with the analytic tool of SPSS software. The purpose of this study is to discuss the difference between customers expectations and recognition and examine the relevance between service quality factor and customer satisfaction. The Conclusion of This Study: 1. Customers' expectations to ADSL are not compatible with their recognitions because ADSL service is not as good as what they expect. Customers also expressed that the performance of Chunghwa Telecom didn't reach their expectations. 2. The relationships between customers perceived degree of ADSL overall service quality, ADSL service quality factor perceived degree, and overall satisfaction are positively relevant. In other words, customers have more perceived degree of ADSL overall service quality or five factors perceived degree of ADSL service quality, including "Tangibility," "Reliability," "Responsiveness," "Assurance," and "Empathy," then customers are more satisfied with the ADSL overall satisfaction. 3. Based on the variable of population statistics on customers, different ages distinctively have diverse perceived degree of ADSL overall service quality. Furthermore, this result is reflected on the relationship between the ages and ADSL service quality five factors perceived degree. Customers at the age of under 20 and from 20 till 40 have much more different perceived degree of ADSL overall service quality and five factors. 4. Based on the variable of population statistics on customers, only sex difference causes different overall satisfaction with ADSL service. Male customers are more satisfied with the service than female ones. Therefore, telecom companies like Chunghwa Telecom should improve service quality, especially to female customers. Besides, customers with different sexes have different perceived degree of one factor on ADSL service quality, "Responsiveness," but the other four factors have no obvious difference.

The stability of digital subscriber lines (DSL) becomes a major challenge when tripleplay services are provisioned. These services must be reliable, while requiring relatively high transmission rates and low latency for an overall improved quality of experience. However, the stabilization tools available in DSL systems such as the automatic margin adaptation (AMA), interleaving, impulse noise protection (INP) and virtual noise (VN) usually trade o bit rate or latency in an attempt of improving the stability. The current work, on the other hand, presents a novel approach to the stabilization of the DSL lines. This approach is based on multiuser spectra coordination that seeks to mitigate crosstalk interference e ect such that feasible bit rate requirements and power restrictions are met with optimized noise margin. As only physical layer parameters are adjusted, latency is not a ected by the method. The problem is posed as a multiuser margin optimization problem and solved by evolutionary algorithms in conjunction with power minimization techniques. Simulations show that the proposed method provides signi cant improvements in terms of noise margin when compared to a previous algorithm, achieving higher protection for the network without penalizing bit rate or latency.

Near-end crosstalk cancellation in xDSL systems

Nongpiur, Rajeev Conrad 18 December 2008 (has links)
In xDSL technology, high-speed data are transferred between the central office and the customers, or between two or more central offices using unshielded telephone lines. A major impairment that hinders the increase in data-rate through the twisted-pair line is nearend crosstalk (NEXT) between the adjacent twisted pairs. DSL systems with overlapping transmit and receive spectra are susceptible to NEXT which significantly increases the interference noise in the received signal and also reduces the reliability and availablity of the system. One way to cancel the NEXT in the received signal is to deploy adaptive filters. However, if adaptive filters are deployed to cancel every possible NEXT signal from the other twisted pairs, the computational complexity increases in proportion to N2 where N is the number of twisted pairs in the bundle and, therefore, it becomes prohibitive even for small values of N. In this dissertation, four new methods for NEXT reduction are proposed. The methods aim at reducing computational complexity while maintaining speed and performance. In Chapter 3 an efficient NEXT cancellation system is proposed. The new system first detects the NEXT signals present in the received signal and then assigns adaptive filters to cancel the most significant NEXT signals detected. The detection process uses a fast and efficient algorithm that estimates the crosscorrelation between the transmitted and received signal. By subtracting the adaptive filter estimates of the NEXT signals that have been detected and assigned adaptive filters for cancellation, the magnitude of smaller NEXT signals can be estimated more accurately during the NEXT detection stage. The new system offers an overall computational complexity of order N. This represents a large reduction in the computational effort relative to that in previous NEXT cancellation system which offer computational complexities of order N2. In Chapter 4, the NEXT cancellation system proposed in Chapter 3 is implemented using frequency-domain least-mean-square (FDLMS) adaptive filters to cancel the NEXT signals. Several schemes for assigning the adaptive filter step sizes are explored. It has been found that by making the step sizes proportional to the magnitude of the NEXT signals during the initial phases of adaptation and then making them all equal during the later phases, the convergence rate can be significantly improved. And by returning after convergence to step sizes that are proportional to the magnitudes of the NEXT signals, a much better tracking performance is achieved. In Chapter 5, a new technique that reduces the computational complexity in adaptive filters for NEXT cancellation is proposed. In this technique, the filter length of each adaptive filter is adjusted according to the strength of the NEXT signal. Since the NEXT signals from the other twisted pairs are typically of different magnitudes, using such a technique leads to a significant reduction in the total number of filter taps when compared with fixedlength adaptive filters. The NEXT cancellation is started by using adaptive filters with minimum filter lengths. As the adaptation progresses, the filter length of each adaptive filter is adjusted according to the magnitude of the NEXT signal. Upon convergence, another algorithm is deployed which readjusts the filter lengths of those adaptive filters that are too long or too short. Chapter 6 deals with another new method to mitigate NEXT based on a wavelet denoising technique. In xDSL systems, the received signal typically has greater power in the lower end of the frequency spectrum whereas the NEXT signal has greater power in the higher end. The wavelet technique takes advantage of the difference between the power spectrum of the received signal and that of the NEXT to mitigate the crosstalk noise. In addition, the method has a low computational complexity which makes it fast, efficient, and well suited for high data-rate applications.

As the DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology reaches its physical bandwidth limit and the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) model becomes a potential substitute, new techniques and standards are developed to cope with the requirements from the Internet access industry. In this context, the newly agreed G.9700 (G.fast) standard, from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), brings to the copper plant a renewal of its lifespan with the use of techniques such as Vectoring. Although Vectoring is a powerful tool for DSL to become a competitive technology for optical fiber, it must deal with the problem that subscribers still may get differing rates at their CPEs (Customer Premises Equipment), caused mainly by physical aspects of the channel. With that in mind, this work proposes methods of balancing the achievable rates delivered to user lines at Downstream. This is done by using different column sortings of the channel matrix, in scenarios that utilize the Tomlinson-Harashima Precoder (THP) up to 200 MHz. Simulations using each rate balancing method on six measured cables are made in order to show each method’s progress. These simulations are extended to the Near-Far Scenario, which tries to resemble the situations where some lines have greater length than others, that is, differing distances between the CPE and the DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer). The proposed methods yielded promising balancing result, with reductions of up to 95.79% of the standard deviation for the Swisscom I51 cable, when comparing results of a genetic algorithm method with those of the THP.

The digital subscriber line (DSL) technology aims at exploiting the full potential of the telephone metallic lines on providing broadband access. On the other hand, the telephone lines may have distinct transmission capacities due to differences on their topologies. Therefore, it is important to measure the actual transmission capacity of each line before the DSL service deployment. This process is called line qualification. The determination of the transmission capacity of metallic lines requires previous determination of their transfer function. The existent qualification techniques determine the transfer function from the communication between equipments at the central office and the customer’s premises or indirectly, from knowledge about the topology of the line under test. Both processes are not in line with a pre-deployment scenario since they imply additional costs with the dispatching of technicians to the subscriber’s site, dependency of updated records about the telephone network (rarely available) or use of sophisticated line topology techniques. Therefore, the goal of this work is to propose a method for determining the transfer function of metallic lines with the following features: it does not need previous knowledge about the line topology, it uses information collected just at the central office (CO) and it does not require any human intervention at the subscriber’s site. Essentially, the general form of the proposed method analytically describes the transfer function of the line under test in function of its short and open-circuited input impedances, taken from the CO, and its asymmetry. Additionally, an algorithm that derives the short-circuited input impedance from the envelopes of the open-circuited one was developed. By applying this algorithm together with the general form of the proposed method, it is possible to determine the transfer function from just an open-circuited input impedance measurement and without any human intervention at the subscriber’s site. The proposed method was evaluated in two steps. The first step concerns the evaluation of the general form of the method. Specifically, the tests involve baseline comparison using simulated data for threeline topologies, application of the method to a bunch of simulated data generated from an arbitrary lines generator, and evaluation using measurements performed in laboratory for eight real test lines. The second step concerns the joint application of the general form of the method and the algorithm that estimates the short-circuited input impedance to measured data for two of the test lines reproduced in laboratory. The results for simulated data indicate that the general form of the proposed method is efficient, providing estimates well below the defined threshold (< 3 dB per DSL tone). For measurements, the general form of the method has estimated the transfer function of seven from the test lines with deviation per tone below 1.5 dB, but it failed for the line with two bridged-taps, being one very close to the subscriber’s site. Concerning the joint application of the general form of the proposed method and the algorithm that estimates the short-circuited input impedance, the transfer function estimations have been equivalent to those provided by the general form of the method, but with significant deviations in the beginning and in the end of the frequency band. These significant deviations are due to the current version of the envelope detector block of the algorithm that has limited performance, especially for lines with more than two serial sections.
