Unlisted Properties: An Exploration in Solo Performance

Smith, Jason 02 May 2008 (has links)
This thesis studies the process of creating, producing and performing a solo performance titled UNLISTED PROPERTIES. We intend to intertwine historical text and contemporary narratives to create portraits of women throughout different periods of history/her-story dealing with the theme of women as property or owning others as personal property. The historical text will be taken from the self-written works of Mary Chesnut, Harriet A. Jacobs, and Elizabeth Packard. The contemporary pieces have been pulled from a variety of sources, which include an interview with Mary Ford, an Army bride during World War II, Pagan Moss, a website blogger describing her experiences working in the sex industry, and Bhumika Ghimire a New York freelance writer who recalls her trials as a new housewife in an article for American Chronicle. Lauren will discuss her roles as actor, co-writer, and dramaturge, and Jason will discuss his work as a director, co-writer and producer.

Investigating the Role of Electric Fields in Directing Schwann Cell Behavior

Magar, Nishant 10 June 2009 (has links)
This study examines the potential of Schwann cells (SCs) to be manipulated by electric fields (EFs) in order to improve recovery from spinal cord injury (SCI). It had long been believed that the central nervous system (CNS) is incapable of regeneration, but recent studies have proven otherwise. SC transplants are known to be useful in promoting axon regeneration after SCI, but is not sufficient for functional recovery. EFs are known to exist in vivo, and have been known to drastically affect the morphology and behavior of cells in various tissues. It was the hypothesis of this study that the conditioning and observed alignment of SCs was a reproducible phenomenon that could promote the growth of axons. It was found that SCs could be aligned at various field strengths and preliminary data suggest that aligned SCs increased the length and directionality of axons extending from DRG explants.

The Visual Staging of Audio Plays

Burkart, Alex P 01 January 2016 (has links)
The Visual Staging of Audio Plays explores the directing practice of radio dramas that are staged for viewing purposes rather than their typical solo-auditory purposes. The thesis is comprised of three separate parts: a brief history of theatrical sound, an introduction to radio drama theory and practice, and application. The application portion is a detailed first-person account of my personal experience staging It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry for TheatreVCU’s Mainstage winter special event in 2015. It is also in this section where I integrate history, theory, and practice to formulate technique for directing the genre for stage.

Elektronické obchodování s mezinárodním prvkem: jurisdikce státu a koncept směřování obchodní činnosti na internetu / Electronic trading with an international element: the jurisdiction of the state and the conception of business activities on the Internet

Vondřich, Lukáš January 2012 (has links)
INTERNET BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS WITH AN INTERNATIONAL ELEMENT The recent developments in technology have raised new forms of electronic communication and business strategies on the Internet, in particular the direct e-commerce operated through dynamically generated websites. As a consequence, the suitability of traditional legal norms has been challenged, including the rules governing jurisdiction. The law therefore tries to respond by adoption of new legal concepts and principles or adaptation of the old ones. One of them is the concept of directing business activities, which was incorporated into EU law in relation to the special jurisdictional rules protecting the consumers of the member states under the Brussels Regulation. Accordingly, the aim of the thesis is to characterize the nature of the concept of directing business activities under the article 15 of the Brussels Regulation, as well as to identify the relevant criteria as to its fulfilment, all in the context of the disputes arising from the consumer contracts concluded as a result of the business activities directed towards the consumers of a member state on the Internet. The first section of the thesis deals with the traditional basis of the state's sovereignty and jurisdictional rules, whereas the second section identifies the specific nature...

Teatro Playground: o jogo como metodologia processual de ensaio / Theatre Playground: the game as a rehearsal process methodology

Silveira, Ramiro Bicca da 26 March 2014 (has links)
The present research looks upon an original methodology for rehearsal process called Theatre Playground. In it the actors are put in a creative environment (Playground), built in order to establish a playfulness state and through it find the relationships and right tune needed to the performance. From the study of practical examples, specific procedures on directing shows and conducting theatre groups are taken as possibilities for training theatre actors and directors. The main aim for this thesis is verify the resonance of a practical approach on techniques related to theatre games, mainly according to the vision of Phillippe Gaulier, Luke Dixon, Anne Bogart and Jacques Lecoq. Also getting deep on the foundations that will allow this game to happen, based mainly on Meyerhold, Barba, Grotowski, Stanislávski and Vakhtangov. And perceiving on which level a group of theatre work, organized under specific ludic and psychophysics premises, can soften the ruptures found in a rehearsal process, specially when the show needs to find the fixed forms and the impro has to give place to the final movements on stage

Mais alÃm dos transtornos alimentares: a impulsÃo e a compulsÃo a partir da clÃnica psicanalitica / Beyond the eating disorders: impulsion and compulsion from the psychoanalytic clinic

Ana Carolina Pacheco Bittencourt Fontes 10 April 2014 (has links)

Pamela on Directing Three the Hard Way: An Exploration of Theatrical and Communicative Processes.

Adolphi, Pamela S. 15 December 2007 (has links)
The direction of the play Three the Hard Way by Linda Eisenstein achieved the playwright's intent and the super objective of the play. The application of theatrical and communicative processes facilitated the direction of the desired metacommunicatations associated with the family's dynamics by expressing the struggles and perceptions associated with the family and their relationships. The implementation of the director's prompt book illustrates the use of proxemics in creating picturizations for the stage. In addition, the exploration of the directing process and the progression of the production are examined in daily journal entries. The successes of the directorial approach and implementations are considered, as well as the aspects of the production that may not have reached full potential.
