A System Dynamics Approach to the Study of Group Cognitive Processes Involved in Self-Organizing Teams

Wang, Wei-yang 18 June 2001 (has links)
Nowadays, volatile and complex environment has forced most organizations to operate in team-based ways to increase their flexibility and adaptability. For teams to adapt, local innovation and change, that is, self-organization, is the most critical process. However, the self-organizing process is poorly understood both in academic and practice. To deep our understanding of self-organizing teams, this research attempts to explore the self-organizing mechanism in group cognitive system perspective. One System Dynamics model is built to represent important self-organization processes. And the classical self-organizing theory-Dissipative Structure Theory is applied to guide important simulations to acquire knowledge of dynamic interactions among those processes. Several positive loops are found to be quite essential in structuring and de-structuring team¡¦s operation structure. With the knowledge of evolutionary feedback acquired, impact of critical environmental factors, such as knowledge redundancy, communication quality, and open interactions, are further investigated and experimented.

Some experiences and publications have tested its agronomic and economic viability besides its environmental benefits, but a very few have approached the theoretical basis that made Ernst Götsch choose the term syntropy (a complementary opposite to entropy) to name this agriculture. This dissertation reviews the scientific literature that addresses the issues raised by the creation of the term "entropy" and the consequences of the Second Law of Thermodynamics. In addition, I analyze the intersection area of Thermodynamics and Ecology, demonstrating the difficulties and potentialities of this interdisciplinary area. Finally, I highlight the coherences between Syntropic Farming and the scientific literature, some methods are pointed out due to their consonance and a hypothesis is launched to test the theoretical propositions of this agriculture.

Local Membrane Curvature Pins and Guides Excitable Membrane Waves in Chemotactic and Macropinocytic Cells - Biomedical Insights From an Innovative Simple Model

Hörning, Marcel, Bullmann, Torsten, Shibata, Tatsuo 03 April 2023 (has links)
PIP3 dynamics observed in membranes are responsible for the protruding edge formation in cancer and amoeboid cells. The mechanisms that maintain those PIP3 domains in three-dimensional space remain elusive, due to limitations in observation and analysis techniques. Recently, a strong relation between the cell geometry, the spatial confinement of the membrane, and the excitable signal transduction system has been revealed by Hörning and Shibata (2019) using a novel 3D spatiotemporal analysis methodology that enables the study of membrane signaling on the entire membrane (Hörning and Shibata, 2019). Here, using 3D spatial fluctuation and phase map analysis on actin polymerization inhibited Dictyostelium cells, we reveal a spatial asymmetry of PIP3 signaling on the membrane that is mediated by the contact perimeter of the plasma membrane—the spatial boundary around the cell-substrate adhered area on the plasma membrane. We show that the contact perimeter guides PIP3 waves and acts as a pinning site of PIP3 phase singularities, that is, the center point of spiral waves. The contact perimeter serves as a diffusion influencing boundary that is regulated by a cell size- and shape-dependent curvature. Our findings suggest an underlying mechanism that explains how local curvature can favor actin polymerization when PIP3 domains get pinned at the curved protrusive membrane edges in amoeboid cells.

L'information en tant que lien essentiel entre les sciences de la nature et les sciences humaines : axe principal : incidences de l'information sur le fonctionnement et le comportement de l'homme considéré en tant que structure dissipative / Information as an essential link between natural science and human science : main focus : the impact of information on the functioning and behaviour of the human being as a dissipative structure

Javeau, Alain 30 June 2016 (has links)
This thesis aims at considering the information as essential link between the sciences of the nature and the human sciences. It is mainly refered to principles of the natural science, allied in a set of scientific stemming approaches, in particular, theories of the complexity, of chaos, of information, auto-organization, emergences and ecosystems. The laws of the thermodynamics play a central role in this context, where the organization and the negentropy make directly part of the field of information production. There is in particular refered to Law of maximization of entropy Production (or, in other words, of energy dissipation), among which the incidence on the functioning and the behavior of the human being as a dissipative structure is underlined via a wide range of examples taken in the common life, incidence basically established on the omnipresent role of the information. The systemics approach, to which it is brought up in a number of considerations, leads here to underline the interactive incidences of the environment (the ecosystem) - linked to the principles of the natural selection which determines its evolution - with the human behavior linked to the information phenomena which define it. The applications of the global approach of this thesis appear in a broad variety of domains, of which also those of the survival, the well-being, the conversation and robotics.

Being and Becoming of Knowldege System of Organization

Lin, Wen Ting Unknown Date (has links)
This dissertation applies and extends a living open system view of organization in description and interpretation of being and becoming of knowledge body of organization, which is a metaphysical part of organization and constituted by information、knowledge and intellectual properties as elements of a living open system。This study provides a dynamic view of existence of knowledge in organization which is to critic and differentiate with contemplated intellectual capital theory with tendency toward a static aspect。System science approach、physiological analogy and non-linear model were applied in this study for describing the process of preservation of knowledge value in organization which is different with previous studies of Nonaka and Takeuchi with tendency toward the mechanic aspect of knowledge formation process in organization。 A theory of knowledge system of organization was developed which claimed every living economic organization who want to survive must rely on its knowledge system survive first。 Organization processes information, its physical part also is changing at the same time which is driving by knowledge value metabolism happened first in its knowledge system。To build the theory,a information processing theory (Galarbith, 1971)、a theoretical view of organism rely on feeding on negative entropy to survive (Schrödinger, 1944) and a theory of information is equal to negative entropy (Wiener, 1948) were integrated for converting the equation of dissipative structure theory of Prigogine to a equation of preservative structure theory of knowledge value of organization。On the analogy of knowledge system as a physiological system to interpret knowledge value change of knowledge system is the net of its system internal new knowledge value formation (termed anabolism) and existing knowledge value decay (termed catabolism)。Then this study uses non-linear equations to build mathematical models and selects different sets of simulation parameters to simulate knowledge value change in different life cycle stages of knowledge system to demonstrate being and becoming of knowledge system。The contributions of this study are: 1.On theory building, theories of Galarbith, Schrödinger, Wiener and Prigogine were successfully integrated into a theory of knowledge system of organization。 2. On the epistemological level,a living open system view was adopted to clearly describe the being and becoming of knowledge system of organization。On the ontological level, the physiological system analogy and non-linear system simulation make it is able to ensure the existence of knowledge system of organization。On the methodology level, the equation of preservation of knowledge value of knowledge system of organization was constructed and extended to linkage with non linear equations, make it feasible to qualitatively describe the knowledge value change in the whole life cycle of knowledge system of organization。 3. With an analogy of metabolism of physiological system and knowledge system of organization,it can be clearly explained that the knowledge value change of knowledge system is its sum of the system internal effect of anabolism and catabolism。 4. Metabolism of knowledge system can be clearly described via a concise non-linear equation, which makes it feasible to prove intuition by mathematical simulation。 Key Words:Knowledge System、Dissipative Structure、Preservative Structure、Metabolism、Anabolism、Catabolism。
