Modellierung von Getreidebestandsspektren zur Korrektur BRDF-bedingter Einflüsse auf Vegetationsindizes im Rahmen der EnMAP-Mission

Das Monitoring von Landwirtschaftsflächen ist eines der Kernthemen der zukünftigen EnMAP Mission, einem deutschen, hyperspektralen Fernerkundungssensor, dessen Start für 2015 geplant ist. In Vorbereitung dieser Mission gehören die Erweiterung und Entwicklung objektiver, robuster sowie zuverlässiger Methoden zur Ableitung biophysikalischer Parameter zu den Hauptaufgaben. Die für das Monitoring von Vegetation notwendige hohe zeitliche Auflösung wird durch ein stufenloses Schwenken von bis zu +/-30° quer zur Flugrichtung erreicht. Daraus resultiert, dass die Daten durch variierende Ein- und Ausstrahlungsgeometrien stark beeinflusst werden. Daher ist eine detaillierte Kenntnis der bidirektionalen Reflexionsfunktion (engl. bidirectional reflectance distribution function, BRDF) der beobachteten Oberflächen notwendig, um diese Einflüsse auf das Reflexionssignal zu identifizieren und anschließend zu korrigieren. Zu diesem Zweck wurde in dieser Arbeit eine Methodik entwickelt, die es ermöglicht, auf der Basis von simulierten Spektren realistische BRDF Szenarien zu modellieren und oberflächenspezifische Korrekturfunktionen abzuleiten. Die Methodik besteht aus drei aufeinander aufbauenden Komponenten. Im ersten Schritt erfolgt die Modellierung der BRDF von landwirtschaftlichen Vegetationsbeständen. Im zweiten Schritt wird der Einfluss der Bestandsarchitektur auf die BRDF analysiert. Darüber hinaus wird untersucht, inwiefern sich Variationen in der BRDF auf die quantitative Ausprägung von Vegetationsindizes auswirken. Solche Indizes sind eine häufig genutzte Möglichkeit zur Quantifizierung biophysikalische Parameter im Rahmen empirischer Verfahren. Aufbauend auf den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen wurden im dritten Schritt Korrekturfunktionen für ausgewählte Vegetationsindizes entwickelt, um Schrägblickbeobachtungen in Nadirbeobachtungen zu transformieren. Abschließend wurde die entwickelte Methodik auf simulierte, sensorspezifische Spektren übertragen. / Monitoring of arable crops is one of the core applications of the upcoming spaceborne EnMAP mission, a German hyperspectral imaging spectrometer scheduled for launch in 2015. During the present preparatory phase one of the primary tasks is the development of accurate, robust and reliable retrieval methods for biophysical canopy parameters. Monitoring of crop canopies requires a frequent temporal coverage. In case of EnMAP, this will be realised by an off-nadir pointing of the sensor up to +/-30° across to the flight direction. The off-nadir pointing leads to data strongly influenced by varying acquisition geometry. Therefore, detailed knowledge of bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDF) of the observed surfaces is necessary to identify and to correct BRDF influenced reflectance signals. For this purpose, a methodology was developed that allows modelling of realistic BRDF scenarios and of surface-specific correction functions. This methodology consists of three consecutive parts. In the first part, modelling of the BRDF of crop canopies was performed. In the second part, the influence of canopy architecture on the BRDF was analysed. Additionally, the BRDF related dependencies of vegetation indices were investigated. Such indices are widely used to quantify biophysical canopy parameters based on empirical methods. In the third part, correction functions were developed for selected vegetation indices to enable a transformation from off-nadir into nadir observations. These correction functions incorporate results obtained in the second part of the methodology. Finally, the developed methodology was applied on sensor-specific simulated spectra.

Os controladores eletrônicos de pulverização visam minimizar a variação das taxas de insumos aplicadas no campo. Eles fazem parte de um sistema de controle, e permitem a compensação da variação de velocidade de deslocamento do pulverizador durante a operação. Há vários tipos de controladores eletrônicos de pulverização disponíveis no mercado e uma das formas de selecionar qual o mais eficiente nas mesmas condições, ou seja, em um mesmo sistema de controle, é quantificar o tempo de resposta do sistema para cada controlador específico. O objetivo desse trabalho foi estimar os tempos de resposta para mudanças de velocidade de um sistema eletrônico de pulverização via modelos de regressão não lineares, estes, resultantes da soma de regressões lineares ponderadas por funções distribuição acumulada. Os dados foram obtidos no Laboratório de Tecnologia de Aplicação, localizado no Departamento de Engenharia de Biossistemas da Escola Superior de Agricultura \"Luiz de Queiroz\", Universidade de São Paulo, no município de Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brasil. Os modelos utilizados foram o logístico e de Gompertz, que resultam de uma soma ponderada de duas regressões lineares constantes com peso dado pela função distribuição acumulada logística e Gumbell, respectivamente. Reparametrizações foram propostas para inclusão do tempo de resposta do sistema de controle nos modelos, com o objetivo de melhorar a interpretação e inferência estatística dos mesmos. Foi proposto também um modelo de regressão não linear difásico que resulta da soma ponderada de regressões lineares constantes com peso dado pela função distribuição acumulada Cauchy seno hiperbólico exponencial. Um estudo de simulação foi feito, utilizando a metodologia de Monte Carlo, para avaliar as estimativas de máxima verossimilhança dos parâmetros do modelo. / The electronic controllers spray aimed at minimizing the variation of inputs rates applied in the field. They are part of a control system, and allow for compensation for variation spray travel speed during operation. There are several types of electronic spray controllers on the market and one way to select which more efficient under the same conditions, ie in the same system of control, is to quantify the system response time for each specific driver. The objective of this study was to estimate the response times for changes in speed of an electronic spraying system via nonlinear regression models, these resulting from the sum of weighted linear regressions for cumulative distribution functions. Data were obtained on the Application Technology Laboratory, located in the Department of Biosystems Engineering from College of Agriculture \"Luiz de Queiroz\", University of Sao Paulo, in Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The models used were the logistic and Gompertz, resulting from a weighted sum of two constant linear regressions with weight given by the cumulative distribution function logistics and Gumbell respectively. Reparametrization been proposed for inclusion in the control system response time models, in order to improve the statistical interpretation and inference of the same. It has also been proposed a non-linear regression model two-phase which is the weighted sum of constant linear regressions weight given by a cumulative distribution function exponential hyperbolic sine Cauchy in which a simulation study was conducted using the methodology of Monte Carlo to evaluating the maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters.

Com a crescente demanda de modelagem de riscos dependentes, enfatizamos neste trabalho a teoria de cópulas e algumas medidas de dependência tais como coeficiente de correlação linear, coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. Mostramos algumas interpretações errôneas sobre o coeficiente de correlação linear e como podemos realizar simulações de variáveis aleatórias com determinadas marginais e dependência. Realizamos uma aplicação na área de seguros para determinar o capital alocado da seguradora. / With the growing demand for modeling dependent risk, in this study we emphasize the theory of copulas and some measures of dependence such as linear correlation coefficient and Spearman correlation coefficient. We show some misleading interpretations on the linear correlation coefficient, and how we can perform simulations of random variables with some marginals and dependence. We conduct an application in the insurance area to determine the allocated capital of the insurer.

Synthesis and Determination of the Local Structure and Phase Evolution of Unique Boehmite-Derived Mesoporous Doped Aluminas

Mesoporous alumina (Al2O3) in the gamma (γ) phase is widely used as a support in catalytic applications because of its high surface area, large pore volume, acid-base characteristics, and thermal stability. To improve the thermal stability of gamma alumina, dopants such as lanthanum, magnesium, zirconia, and silica are often introduced. Current laboratory-based methods for synthesizing gamma alumina generally involve 10-15 steps and/or use toxic, expensive surfactants and solvents. Industrial methods, while simpler, lack control of pore properties and surface chemistry. In contrast, we have developed an innovative solvent deficient, one-step method that is able to synthesize a wide range of pure and silica-doped aluminas with high surface areas, pore volumes from 0.3 to 1.8 cm3/g, and pore diameters from 5 to 40 nm. More significantly, our silica-doped aluminas are stable up to temperatures as high as 1300<°>C, which is 200<°>C higher than other pure and doped gamma alumina materials.The usefulness of gamma-alumina as a catalyst support is dependent on its favorable combination of textural, thermal, structural, and chemical properties, yet the relationship between structure and these other properties is still not clearly understood due to the poorly crystallized nature of the material. In particular, the mechanism by which the gamma structure is stabilized thermally by so many dopants is still not well understood. Based on our previous PDF experiments on pure and La-doped alumina, we have developed a hypothesis regarding the mechanism by which dopants increase thermal stability. To validate or refute this hypothesis, we collected PDF data on a wider range of laboratory and industrial alumina samples. Herein, we have utilized PDF analysis to study the local to intermediate-range structure of a series of our pure and silica-doped aluminas calcined at 50<°>C intervals between 50 and 1300<°>C as well as pure and silica-doped aluminas from commercial sources and other synthetic methods. This thorough study of alumina local structure will allow us to separate general trends in the local structure from idiosyncrasies based on synthetic method/conditions, and it will help us identify the structural features responsible for improved thermal stability. Having access to these PDF experiments, we have validated our current hypothesis on the nature of stabilization afforded by dopants and, more generally, developed a better understanding of the role structure plays in the properties of aluminas.

The importance of waves in space plasmas : Examples from the auroral region and the magnetopause

Space plasma physics is identified as an essential building block to understand the space environment and it is argued that observation and analysis of space plasma waves is an important approach.</p><p>Space plasma waves are the main actors in many important processes. So-called broadband waves are found responsible for much of the ion heating in the auroral region. We investigate the wave properties of broadband waves and show that they can be described as a mixture of electrostatic wave modes. In small regions void of cold electrons the broadband activity is found to be ion acoustic waves and these regions are also identified as acceleration regions. The identification of the wave modes includes reconstructions of the wave distribution function. The reconstruction technique allow us to determine the wave vector spectrum, which cannot be measured directly. The method is applied to other wave events and it is compared in some detail with a similar method.</p><p>Space plasma wave are also sensitive tools for investigations of both the fine-structure and the dynamics of space plasmas. Studies of whistler mode waves observed in the boundary layer on the magnetospheric side of the magnetopause reveal that the plasma is organized in tube-like structures moving with the plasma drift velocity. The perpendicular dimension of these tubes is of the order of the electron inertial length. We present evidence that each tube is linked to a reconnection site and argue that the high density of tube-like structures indicates patchy reconnection.</p>

Cumulative Distribution Networks: Inference, Estimation and Applications of Graphical Models for Cumulative Distribution Functions

This thesis presents a class of graphical models for directly representing the joint cumulative distribution function (CDF) of many random variables, called cumulative distribution networks (CDNs). Unlike graphical models for probability density and mass functions, in a CDN, the marginal probabilities for any subset of variables are obtained by computing limits of functions in the model. We will show that the conditional independence properties in a CDN are distinct from the conditional independence properties of directed, undirected and factor graph models, but include the conditional independence properties of bidirected graphical models. As a result, CDNs are a parameterization for bidirected models that allows us to represent complex statistical dependence relationships between observable variables. We will provide a method for constructing a factor graph model with additional latent variables for which graph separation of variables in the corresponding CDN implies conditional independence of the separated variables in both the CDN and in the factor graph with the latent variables marginalized out. This will then allow us to construct multivariate extreme value distributions for which both a CDN and a corresponding factor graph representation exist. In order to perform inference in such graphs, we describe the `derivative-sum-product' (DSP) message-passing algorithm where messages correspond to derivatives of the joint cumulative distribution function. We will then apply CDNs to the problem of learning to rank, or estimating parametric models for ranking, where CDNs provide a natural means with which to model multivariate probabilities over ordinal variables such as pairwise preferences. We will show that many previous probability models for rank data, such as the Bradley-Terry and Plackett-Luce models, can be viewed as particular types of CDN. Applications of CDNs will be described for the problems of ranking players in multiplayer team-based games, document retrieval and discovering regulatory sequences in computational biology using the above methods for inference and estimation of CDNs.

Theory of one-dimensional Vlasov-Maxwell equilibria : with applications to collisionless current sheets and flux tubes

Vlasov-Maxwell equilibria are characterised by the self-consistent descriptions of the steady-states of collisionless plasmas in particle phase-space, and balanced macroscopic forces. We study the theory of Vlasov-Maxwell equilibria in one spatial dimension, as well as its application to current sheet and flux tube models. The ‘inverse problem' is that of determining a Vlasov-Maxwell equilibrium distribution function self-consistent with a given magnetic field. We develop the theory of inversion using expansions in Hermite polynomial functions of the canonical momenta. Sufficient conditions for the convergence of a Hermite expansion are found, given a pressure tensor. For large classes of DFs, we prove that non-negativity of the distribution function is contingent on the magnetisation of the plasma, and make conjectures for all classes. The inverse problem is considered for nonlinear ‘force-free Harris sheets'. By applying the Hermite method, we construct new models that can describe sub-unity values of the plasma beta (βpl) for the first time. Whilst analytical convergence is proven for all βpl, numerical convergence is attained for βpl = 0.85, and then βpl = 0.05 after a ‘re-gauging' process. We consider the properties that a pressure tensor must satisfy to be consistent with ‘asymmetric Harris sheets', and construct new examples. It is possible to analytically solve the inverse problem in some cases, but others must be tackled numerically. We present new exact Vlasov-Maxwell equilibria for asymmetric current sheets, which can be written as a sum of shifted Maxwellian distributions. This is ideal for implementations in particle-in-cell simulations. We study the correspondence between the microscopic and macroscopic descriptions of equilibrium in cylindrical geometry, and then attempt to find Vlasov-Maxwell equilibria for the nonlinear force-free ‘Gold-Hoyle' model. However, it is necessary to include a background field, which can be arbitrarily weak if desired. The equilibrium can be electrically non-neutral, depending on the bulk flows.

We limited this study to the case in which the vector of parameters is unknown and, therefore, must be estimated. We present the simulation studies to verify the performance of the test statistics in study. Also, we propose simulation studies of Monte Carlo for goodness-of-fit test for Birnbaum-Saunders distribution using Type-II censored data.
