Multi-aspectual knowledge elicitationWinfield, Michael James January 2000 (has links)
This work examines one of the major stumbling blocks of knowledge based systems development, namely knowledge elicitation. The challenge is a fundamental one of eliciting knowledge from domain experts including tacit knowledge. This thesis argues that, in the past, knowledge elicitation has been limited since elicitation has been performed from one or a limited number of aspects. A method is needed to assist in providing a pluralistic approach to knowledge elicitation that will aid multi-aspectual viewpoints of the domain knowledge to be elicited. MAKE (Multi-Aspectual Knowledge Elicitation) is such a pluralistic method. Using the work of Herman Dooyeweerd (1955) MAKE is developed from a sound philosophical basis. Two levels of knowledge are elicited using MAKE. The method starts by building a top-level knowledge map that covers all of the knowledge aspects and provides an overview of the domain. Such an overview determines the complexity of the domain allowing a knowledge based systems developer to see the effects of taking a minimalist approach to the development; that is the top-level map may be used to help define the scope of a system. The second level involves detailed knowledge elicitation. Using a process of abstraction, the concepts defined in each aspect are refined to a sufficiently detailed level to enable a system to be built. The resulting knowledge forms an ontological view of the domain knowledge. The empirical work adopting a case study approach has demonstrated that: MAKE can be used by people who are not necessarily versed in artificial intelligence techniques or in the philosophy of Dooyeweerd. MAKE has shown itself to be adaptable across a very varied set of domains MAKE is adaptable and useful for eliciting tacit knowledge. It is argued that MAKE indicates a change of direction from methods that are currently in use.

O neocalvinismo holandês e o movimento de cosmovisão cristãRodomar Ricardo Ramlow 06 July 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to present the authors and the main ideas which led to what became known as Dutch Neo-calvinism in the nineteenth century. From the development of ideas as the sovereignty of God, common grace, the cultural mandate, the criticism of theology and the Greek dichotomy and others, is that the Dutch men like Abraham Kuyper and Herman Dooyeweerd, had their lives marked as Christians who fought and lived for a Christianity that did not accept to be relegated within the church walls. Understanding Christianity as a comprehensive worldview from the Biblical ground-motive Creation-Fall-Redemption, the proponents of this reform movement influenced many Christian and thinkers worldwide. In recent years in Brazil it is also noted the role of people sympathetic to this movement and the emergence of publications on the subject of the Christian worldview. Markedly, a movement with claims of cultural reform and not merely ecclesiastical, initiatives are multiplying across the country. In addition to the authors that gave rise to the Dutch Neo-calvinism, this work also aims to focus on the emergence of the concept of Christian worldview and what the consequences are and the proposed inclusion of social and cultural proponents of the movement.

Unfinished Business: Toward a Reformational Conception of TruthZuidervaart, Lambert January 2009 (has links)
This essay presents an emerging conception of truth and shows how it appropriates Herman Dooyeweerd’s conception. First I compare my “critical hermeneutics” with other reformational models of critique. Then I propose to think of truth as a dynamic correlation between (1) human fidelity to societal principles and (2) a life-giving disclosure of society. This conception recontextualizes the notion of propositional truth, and it links questions of intersubjective validity with Dooyeweerd’s emphasis on “standing in the truth.” While abandoning his idea of transcendent truth, I seek
to preserve the holism and normativity of Dooyeweerd’s radical conception.

This dissertation constitutes itself as a presentation of the thought and the philosophic system of the Dutch Herman Dooyeweerd. In it, is discussed the foundations upon which the author built what he called the cosmonomic philosophy, identifying in the nineteenth century neocalvinsm movement of Abraham Kuyper the tradition in which the dooyweerdian thought is located. Aiming to introduce the main elements of the amsterdammer philosophers thought this work is structured in three chapters. In the first one, called Panoramic view of modernity, is made a brief discussion about this historical period, reflecting on the ideal of rationality that came with it in order to present the Dooyeweerds proposal as a critic view of modernity, by the means of his denounce of the dogma of the religious autonomy of reason. The second chapter, Constitutive elements of the cosmonomic philosophy, demonstrates the authors conceptual language, reflecting about the meaning of cosmonomic and its unfolding towards a construction of a truly Christian philosophy which differs itself of the scholastic perspective. In the third chapter, named The reception of the Dooyeweerds thought in the Brazilian context is made an analysis from a kuyperian-dooyeweerdian tradition of possible models of relation between Christianity and culture in Brazil. In the sequence, it is showed the neocalvinistic critic towards a dualistic and segmented model of interaction with the cultural sphere. In opposition to this model, is defended an understanding of Christianity as a power of transformation and redemption of the culture. Following that, a reflection is made about the convergent and divergent elements between the neocalvinstic view and the theological perspectives of Missão Integral (Comprehensive Mission) and Liberation Theology, in an attempt to establish a dialog between these traditions. Finally, it is presented an evaluation of possible contributions of the dooyeweerdian construction in academic terms as well as in the case of a faith/rationality dialog, having in perspective the developing of a Public Theology.
