Sustaining compressed air DSM project savings using an air leakage management system / A.J.M. van Tonder

Van Tonder, Adriaan Jacobus Marthinus January 2010 (has links)
Unreliable and unsustainable electricity supply has been experienced in South Africa since 2007. Eskom implemented Demand Side Management (DSM) as a short-term solution to alleviate this problem. Several compressed-air DSM projects were implemented to help reduce the strain on the electrical network. Compressed air is an integral part of production in deep-level mining, and is extensively utilised. Problems are encountered with the effective management and repairing of leaks, since the majority of mines have little to no procedures in place for leak management. Awareness of the condition of the compressed-air system and leaks needed to be created at management level in order to achieve the best results. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of proper leak management on compressed-air systems in the mining industry. Peak-clipping DSM projects implemented in the mining industry were used for evaluation of results. Contribution to the sustainability of compressed-air DSM projects savings through successful leak documentation was the prime focus of this study. This was achieved through the development of a Compressed Air Leakage Documentation System (CALDS). This entailed the electronic field-data capture and record keeping of field data, using rugged PDA devices suitable for the extreme environmental conditions encountered in deep-level mining. Report generation on the status of detected leaks created awareness of compressedair- system performance and leak-repair tracking at management level. Audible detection was sufficient for this study, since the focus was on the larger more-severe leaks. Leaks were expressed in monetary terms to indicate the severity. It was found that successful management of leaks could contribute to an increase of as much as 85% in project savings. The results also showed that creating awareness through documentation of leaks, and the effect this has on the system, resulted in regular repairing of these leaks. Sustainability of projects was maintained during an evaluation period of ten months, with projects achieving on average 125% of target savings. The study showed that effective reporting on compressed-air leaks resulted in increased system efficiency and sustainable DSM project savings. It was also seen that leak detection by outsourced companies did not necessarily result in financial savings. When the mine took responsibility for its own leak detection and repairs, significant savings were realised. / Thesis (M.Ing. Internal Dashboard

Wagnberg, Michael, Danielsson, Peter January 2018 (has links)
This project is about creating a Dashboard with suitable data models containing support ticket statistics for the company Sigma IT Consulting. The work flow used by Sigma today is to manually log in to the system to see the support ticket statistics, which can be a tedious and time consuming process. Furthermore, Sigma do not have any monitoring system for checking the health of their web application services. They have a need for an internal Dashboard containing this information with regularly updates. Our solution is to design suitable data models and implement them within a Dashboard application.

São perguntas que me acompanham, me inquietam. / What contours does "civilization and its discontents" gain today? How does its character of denunciation and objection present itself? Subjected to the effects of the Capitalist Discourse, how do the subjects of desire resist as well as their multiple ways of (re) inventing life? These are questions that have accompanied me, made me uneasy. Thus, I kind of rehearse to point out some clinical figures of the processes of subjectivation in the present time, more specifically the field of tension between the DSM Psychiatry and the Psychoanalysis of the Field of Freud and Lacan, aiming specially to contribute to the practices of Psychosocial Attention and to the advances of Collective Mental Health. A survey was carried out in fifteen (15) postgraduate programs in Psychology and Psychoanalysis, and seventy-six studies (76) were found that touched on the problems that articulate Medicalization and contemporary manifestations, such as depression, alcoholism and drug addiction, among others, with the Capitalist Mode of Production (CMP), in its hypermodern version. From the intersection between the field of Political Economy and Psychoanalysis, the Dominant Social Symptom (DSS) emerges as one of the possible planes of analysis, given the homology proposed between Social Formation and manifestations of current malaise. What would be the effects of the transformations, pertaining to present times, in the process of subjectivation? Can the Psychoanalysis of the Field of Freud and Lacan still promote singularizing therapeutic effects? How do the modalities of psychic suffering and malaise in current times present themselves? In Essay 1: First figure, I present Depression as a Dominant Social Symptom, the first theme to cross my existence as a subject in the world. In Essay 2: Medium figure, I address Medicalization in the practices of care and attention to Health as well as the tension between the DSM Psychiatry and Freud and Lacan’s Psychoanalysis. I display a field of dispute among the Expanded Clinic, Psychoanalysis (in crisis) and Psychiatry, the latter oriented by the DSM and ICD 10 manuals, practiced by a large number of healthcare workers. For Essay 3: Other figures were addressed questions about alcoholism and drug addiction as DSS. During the research I discovered that the subjective effects resulting from the neoliberal transformation of the State had not only been studied, but also that practitioners of psychoanalysis had already established a debate over the new symptoms and the new subjects, which I present in Essay 4: What is this figure? In it I try to point out the power, to stress the creative dimension of the subject when constructing for oneself a symptom, as a critical activity of the social reality one inhabits, a know-how to make do with the marks of one’s process of subjectivation.

Westrin, Fredrik January 2013 (has links)
ADHD has for a long time been perceived as something that affects children and grows away with time. American psychiatric association state that ADHD may appear differently with adolescences and adults than with children. That could lead to misunderstandings and exclusion by adults and adolescences with ADHD at work life amongst other situations. This report investigates that exclusion and tries to find what information that needs to reach certain target groups to prevent it from happen. The works focus is text design, a part of information design, and looks firstly at the factors that make good information material. Then I investigate if there is a need for more information about ADHD within working life and if so what it would contain. The next part brings up what criteria it takes to be diagnosed with ADHD and different kinds of support; such as administrative, economical or cognitive. The goal of the report is to form information, mostly with text. Therefore the theoretical part ends with factors connected to information design followed by the design development.

E-Mental Health - Developing a general screening tool for Mental Disorders

Lochan, Alicia Ruth January 2010 (has links)
Mental health care is critical and while governments are trying to increase awareness of the problem the available resources is not sufficient to confront the growing problem. The thesis proposes a design theory, using Gregor and Jones’s (2007) ‘Anatomy of a Design Theory’ framework, for the current mental illness dilemma that all societies are facing. The proposed solution is one of using information systems, together with domain knowledge and conventional instruments from the field of psychology to create a general screening tool. The design theory takes an ontological approach to defining the domain’s knowledge, using the MINI instrument along with expert knowledge to form the basis of the artifact. The artifact consists of four main entities: Background Information, Screening Questions, Pre-Requisite Questions and Other Questions. The thesis discusses the theoretical rationale for the screening took and then presents an instantiation of the artifact. This tool would be able to screen any person (with the exception of the mentally handicapped) to ascertain if they have a mental disorder as defined in the DSM-IV.
