ABSTRACT Purpose/aim: Are there any differences between how “old” and “young” groups within social movements in Sweden view (value) and use alternative and mainstream media? Material/method: The answer to the research problem is sought by conducting qualitative research interviews with representatives of four different groups: Alternativ Stad, Folkkampanjen mot Kärnkraft-Kärnvapen, Attac Sverige and Ingen Människa är Illegal. The theoretical framework consists of research on social movements, especially on their relation to media, and on alternative media. Main results: There exist some, but not great, differences between how “old” and “young” groups view and use mainstream and alternative media. The differences are relatively small when it comes to views on media and somewhat larger concerning media use. Gestaltningen av en massmördare : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om gestaltningen av Anders Behring Breivik i nordisk media / Framing a mass murderer : A quantitative content analysis on Nordic medias media framing of Anders Behring Breivik.Semb, Jens Ross, Persson, Martin January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to overlook Nordic medias news coverage and framing of Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik. The study is based on printed editions of Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter and the Finnish newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet set on nine selected dates related to the issue between July 23th 2011 to August 25th 2012. The study will display how Breivik was framed by each of the Nordic newspapers and even the total amount of news coverage the issue has been given. The media framing part of the study will mainly focus on the media framing of Breiviks personality and political ideology. The study will also investigate each newspapers handling of Breiviks manifesto, which he published only hours before killing 77 people on July 22th 2011. The study is a quantitative content analysis, containing a total number of 245 articles. Aftenposten featured almost two times the total material of Dagens Nyheter and Hufvudstadsbladet combined. The study is based on news evaluation- and media framing theory. The result shows that there are only slight differences in each newspapers framing of Breivik. The most usual description based on our results is that Breivik is a right wing extremist, massmurder or terrorist with a deviant perception of reality. Sensationalism has put its imprint on the news coverage of Breivik by focusing on personal and psychological aspects. The result also shows that newspapers in neighboring countries Sweden and Finland put a larger emphasis on the hatred of the terrorist than domestic newspaper Aftenposten.

Impact of Technology Interventions on Student Achievement in Rural Nigerian SchoolsBello, Aderonke 01 January 2011 (has links)
Increasing technology intervention in rural schools is still a herculean task, especially with the lack of adequate infrastructures and limited resources. The purpose of this quantitative, causal comparative study was to determine the impact of technology interventions on student achievement in rural Nigerian schools. The study explored the differences in student achievement in mathematics and English between technology and nontechnology schools and established a relationship between teachers' level of technology implementation and student achievement. The convenience sample comprised 2,369 examination scores in mathematics and English of Senior Secondary Level 2 (SS2) students and purposive sampling of 34 teachers who participated in an online survey. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), the level of technology implementation (LoTi) framework, and Pearson's correlation coefficient test. The results showed significant differences in student achievement between technology and nontechnology schools. However, the LoTi framework results indicated a low level of technology implementation in classroom instruction and no significant relationship between teachers' technology integration and student performance. Thus, the mere presence of technology seems to have more impact on student grades than the ways in which teachers use it. This study is resource material for stakeholders in education to ascertain the technology that worked best, teachers' professional development, and other infrastructures, prior to the deployment of technology interventions. The results could be useful for increasing teachers' technology integration and improving student performance, thereby leading to positive social change.

The research uses Burgert (1998) and Brody Neuenschwander’s (2000) ideas of the ‘Linear Graphic’ to explore the creative and expressive qualities of the line. In addition, the characteristics of Ch’i are also analysed and identified. This is achieved by exploring and interpreting classic Chinese principles such as ‘Ch’i Yuen Shen Tung’ (Rhythmic Vitality), ‘Harmony of the Mind and Hand’ and ‘Stilling the Heart’. As a result, new approaches of ‘Simplicity’ and ‘Spontaneity’ have been developed for Western calligraphy. These approaches demonstrate the requirement of the control and integrity of the calligrapher. The research also places emphasis on the development of one’s ‘self-being’ to cultivate the internal and external aspects of calligraphy. This is achieved through the creation of calligraphy pieces as part of this developmental process. Digital media are also explored by using these same principles and approaches. New characteristics and processes such as ‘Layering’, ‘Reusability’ and ‘Simplicity and Complexity’ in print based calligraphy, as well as ‘Dynamism’, ‘Customisability’, ‘Impermanence’ and ‘Interactivity’, in computational calligraphy have emerged as a result.

This study investigated the effect of media on attitudes toward the criminal justice system. A survey was administered to 167 undergraduate students at East Tennesse State University in criminal justice and fine and performing arts classes. Respondents were asked how much television they watch, what their primary news source was, and how accurate crime-related television programs are. Multivariate analysis showed that age and major affected attitudes more than media consumption.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PROBLEMA: El Servicio de Otorrinolaringología atiende en consulta externa alrededor de 60 a 70 pacientes diarios, de los cuales el 30% tiene Otitis Media Crónica. Generalmente el tiempo de enfermedad que presentan los pacientes están comprendidos entre 05 y 45 años. La mayoría de pacientes requieren intervención quirúrgica, por lo cual es importante la VALORACIÓN PREOPERATORIA como pronóstico en los pacientes que serán sometidos a SOP. Cabe destacar, que los pacientes que acuden al hospital son de condición económica baja y hacen el esfuerzo posible para operarse, sin embargo, los resultados postoperatorios no suelen ser óptimos dando como consecuencia abandono del paciente al tratamiento a seguir y probables complicaciones óticas.
Nosotros, como médicos tratantes, sufrimos decepciones en cuanto a los resultados postoperatorios alcanzados, al no poder solucionar el problema de salud como estaba planificado y eso indudablemente se debe a una serie de factores que debemos tener en cuenta al realizar la valoración preoperatoria como pronóstico de cada paciente.
HIPOTESIS: La adecuada valoración preoperatoria del paciente con Otitis Media Crónica en el Servicio de Otorrinolaringología del Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo determinará el Pronóstico postoperatorio del paciente.
OBJETIVOS:

Determinar factores de mal pronóstico en pacientes postoperados de Otitis Media Crónica en el Servicio de Otorrinolaringología del Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo.
2.OBJETIVOS ESPECIFICOS:
- Identificar los pacientes de Otitis Media Crónica.
- Identificar y describir signos y síntomas frecuentes de los pacientes que son sometidos a operación.
- Clasificar a los pacientes que serán sometidos a SOP según la clasificación de pronóstico de Bellucci.
- Comparar los criterios de valoración preoperatoria con resultados del postoperatorio.
