From Visions to Specification : Using user designed mock-ups for envisioning user requirements for the future e-newspaper

Ovesson, Fredrik, Wikström, Kristin January 2005 (has links)
<p>In this paper we have studied how user designed mock-ups, together with video recordings, </p><p>can contribute in the process of generating user requirements when designing the future e- </p><p>newspaper. The mock-ups originate from future workshop carried out within the DigiNews </p><p>project. By analyzing user designed mock-ups to retrieve user requirements and evaluating </p><p>the results against a focus group and newspaper designers we gained understanding on how </p><p>mock-ups can contribute as data input in a user involved design process. The study concludes </p><p>that mock-ups are an effective tool for making use of users’ visions and opinions in a </p><p>dynamic design process.</p>

Vetenskapliga tidningsartiklar i klassrummet : En undersökning om lärares användning av tidningsartiklar / Science news in the classroom : An investigation about teachers use of newspaper articles

Bråmer, Pontus January 2007 (has links)
<p>This paper presents why and how teachers use newspaper articles in the classroom when they educate their pupils in chemistry, biology and nature science. All the teachers have worked over 20 years and are, when interviewed, at a Swedish gymnasium in Dalarna. I also have, in a small study, interviewed some of their pupils to get their view about teachers using news paper articles during lessons.</p><p>The teacher’s use of newspaper articles in the classroom can be divided in different ways. They can use the articles to illustrate up to date links to everyday life. Some teachers’ uses articles by letting the pupils read the articles and answer questions about them. Or the newspaper articles can function as background material when the pupils do a project work covering a number of lessons. The major part of the teachers thinks that the main reason why they use articles from newspapers is to get up to date information concerning the course that are covered.</p><p>The results show that the teachers in Dalarna use their newspaper articles in the same way as shown in international studies. For example they used the newspaper articles to start a lesson or a new topic. Or they used the article to have an example on the subject they teach. But a number of differences can also be observed between this study and other international ones, for example the main reason why the articles are presented to the pupils and how the articles are used over time.</p>

Debating the Education Utopia : Ideational change in the Swedish debate about privatization of education between 2003 and 2011

Lindmark, Axel, Karlsson, Marcus January 2012 (has links)
There is strong support among scholars that ideas are important in shaping public policy. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the ideas present in the Swedish debate about privatization of education between 2003 and 2011 during different governments, and if Sweden has undergone an ideational shift where ideas of privatization are becoming more accepted not just among politicians but also among a wider base of actors. Framing theory and the concept of counter framing are used to categorize these ideas. A mixed methods approach is used where frames are first defined based on previous research about privatization of education, then identified in newspaper articles from three major Swedish newspapers, then quantified according to whether they are used by proponents or opponents of privatization and finally analyzed to investigate their content. We found that there had indeed been a change in which frames were used as well as how they were used between the years analyzed. This indicates that there has been an ideational shift towards market oriented ideas in Sweden which could be attributed to the change in government as counter framing was more common for proponents of privatization during a social democratic government and more common for opponents during a center-right government, however further research is needed to determine the validity of this correlation.

A Study of Bricks and Clicks -the Case of Online Bookstore and Online Newspaper

Chen, Mei-Jin 26 June 2001 (has links)
The purpose of the thesis is to explore how the legacy firms extend their online business. Should they integrate the online business division with traditional division in order to leverage the established competency, or spin off the online business division and keep it separate from the traditional division in order to get more flexibility and focus? The study tried to find the factors that effect firms to keep the online business separate from established business or urge firms to integrate the online business in-house. These factors can help firms decide whether to keep or spin off the online business division. The main conclusions of this thesis: 1. Check the shock of the online business Explores the idea of "disruptive technology" that clashes with the current culture/business model versus "sustaining technology" that enables further success of the current culture/model. If the internet business is disruptive technology, you should spin it off. 2. If interrelationship between the established business unit and the internet business unit can bring competitive advantage to each other, or the established business unit have the core competency or resource to make the internet business unit competitive, you should take advantage of the synergy by horizontal strategies.

The living newspaper program : drama-based collaborative professional development with teachers of English and Spanish as a foreign language

Schildkret, Elizabeth Griffin 22 October 2013 (has links)
The Living Newspaper Project, a project-based learning model in which students conduct research on a topic, create a script, and perform their work for their peers, has been an outreach program in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin since 2005, but its potential as a professional development program has never been explored at this institution. This MFA Thesis documents the process of designing, implementing, and analyzing a collaborative professional development program for the Living Newspaper Project. The Living Newspaper Project collaborative Professional Development Program was piloted with an English teacher in Austin, Texas, and three Spanish Teachers in Merida, Venezuela. This document examines their thoughts, observations, and experiences in the program, as well as the writings of theorists and the work of other professionals in arts-based professional development to determine what aspects of a professional development program enable teachers to implement a Living Newspaper in their classrooms. / text
