Lendas Capixabas (2000) for solo guitar, by Brazilian composer Carlos Cruz (1936-2011), consists of three movements that represent legends from the state of Espírito Santo: Juparanã, O Frade e a Freira and Itabira. This work presents sometimes a non-idiomatic writing for the instrument, since Cruz did not play the guitar. In order to solve these passages and the inconsistencies of the only edition of this work, we aimed the development of a critical-interpretative edition of Lendas Capixabas, from the comparison between sources, the resolution of non-idiomatic passages and the fingering proposition. Moreover, to do this, we have identified the manuscripts in the composer's scores collection, conducted a bibliographical research on musical editions, interviewed performers who have performed the work, and collected other guitarists’ proposals in some excerpts of the work. As a result, we developed a critical-interpretative edition grounded on all the aforementioned parameters.

Mountain and farmland, a Hakka-style suite by Taiwanese composer Tai-Hsiang LiChen, Chun-Ming 01 May 2015 (has links)
When the Taiwanese composer, Tai-Hsiang Li received the National Cultural Award in 2013, he said, “My blood is full of music. If you take out the music from my life, I am nothing!” Tai-Hsiang Li brought contemporary music to Taiwan, combining folk music with the modern orchestra, and raising the quality of Taiwanese popular music. He almost single-handedly infused Taiwanese culture into classical, modern, popular, film, and television advertising music. His arrangements of folk music have shown the Taiwanese the beauty of their own music and inspired countless younger musicians. The music critic Chung-Heng Yang declared, “Without Tai-Hsiang Li, the music history of Taiwan will not be complete.”
After the composer’s death in 2014, his life story was made public by various media, but many of the information disseminated were not accurate. Musicians have difficulties performing his works because of his constant revisions to his scores. For this thesis, I have personally interviewed the composer’s family and the Hakka singer Yu-Wei Hsieh. I investigated documents, collected Hakka mountain songs and three different editions of his Hakka-style suite Mountain and Farmland. I also investigated journal articles, newspaper articles, and read the books about the composer. In addition to presenting an updated biography of Tai-Hsiang Li’s life, I also prepare a critical performance edition of the Mountain and Farmland.
It is my desire that more musicians will find interest in performing Mountain and Farmland as well as scholars doing research on Hakka music and works by Tai-Hsiang Li.

Sens interdits : l'encadrement des publications érotiques en France des années 1920 aux années 1970 / Forbidden senses : the repressive framework of erotic publications in France from the 1920s to the 1970sUrbain, Anne 07 December 2015 (has links)
Since the middle of the 1970s, the juridical framework for erotic publications in France has experienced no major developments. Our current legislation has been inherited from liberal reforms from the late 1960s, which have deconstructed a coercive system that has been continually improved since 1939, in the wake of the battle led by defenders of public morality during the inter-war-years. This work aims to shed light on the history of this legislation, which since its emergence in the 1920s until its dissolution in the 1970s, has come to both record, and influence, the evolution if French society and its morals. What was the background and who were the intermediaries and supporters of this legislation? What were its effects and limitations? By whom and why was this legislation challenged, and how did this challenge merge with the broader movement of liberal claims in the late 1960s? From 1881 to 1958, the legal system surrounding erotic publications has regularly been reviewed (in 1882, 1898, 1908, 1939, 1949 and 1958), in a manner ever increasingly repressive. The break during the inter-war-years disguised a melting pot in which the great public decency reforms were elaborated before they were ratified on the eve of the Second World War. In 1967, for the first time since the July 29, 1881 law, the moral framework for the press and publication industry was relaxed. Many authors and publishers suffered a reactionary backlash in the late 1960s through to the 1970s, however May 1968 and its follow-up overcame this repressive system. This thesis proposes primarily to clarify the origins and foundations of the major juridical innovations that are contained in the July 29, 1939 law relating to public indecency that directly impacted the press and book industry. Secondarily, it focuses on the conditions for the adoption, as well as the subsequent application of article 14 of the July 16, 1949 law, which on an administrative level reinforced the judicial repression set up ten years previously. Finally, in examining the development of this new legislation from 1950 to 1970, we will study its effects and retrace the history of its contestation.

Literaturverzeichnis 76 / In the past, the scholarly production of classical editions took place mostly in complex and costly long-term projects. The possibilities of electronic data processing and of making progressively digitized collections of institutions that act as custodians of cultural assets available on the internet on a ubiquitous scale are moving the relationship between edition and library into the focus of attention. There is
an encouraging interest in enhancing the scientific information infrastructure on the basis of library structures to provide „virtual research environments“ with collaborative tools for location-independent work with standardized workflows; and these efforts are currently being promoted and tested in initiatives and projects.
After giving a theoretical outline of developments and typologies of digital scholarly editions, this thesis will provide information on currently offered functionalities at the example of selected successful projects. The focus of consideration, however, is on the establishment of a data flow for transferring unique stocks and verified (library) metadata into virtual research spaces. The collaborative pilot project Digitale Briefedition A. W. Schlegel (Digital Edition of the Letters of A. W. Schlegel) between the SLUB Dresden, the University of Marburg and the Center for Digital Humanities in Trier will serve as an example to illustrate such an autograph workflow, based on the open source paradigm, from digitization and descriptive cataloguing of the manuscripts to their presentation in the Digital Collections through to their incorporation into a virtual research environment for scientific in-depth analysis. The process of transformation into a global networked information and knowledge society relies on division of labor and cooperation on a peer-to-peer basis and requires a functional and institutional rapprochement between libraries and the research community.:Abstract i
