Introduction: Majority of type I diabetes (type I DM) patients do not reach satisfactory levels of compensation regardless of the advances made in the available treatment. One of the basic pillars of successful type I DM treatment is thorough education. Objective: The aim of this thesis was to describe changes in glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in patients that completed a four day long educational program. Method: The retrospective analysis evaluated 40 patients with type I DM (age 32 y.o. ± 13, HbA1c before the program 67,1 mmol/mol ± 11,75, diagnosed with DM for 12,5 years ± 7,01). HbA1c was measured before the educational program and then again in a period of 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after the program completion. The program provided the patients with classes focusing on carb counting, flexible insulin dosing, effective ways to manage hypoglycemia and physical activity. Statistical data were obtained by non-parametric tests. (Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA-repeated measures). Results: Three months after the program completion, a significant drop in HbA1 levels could be observed (67,1 mmol/mol ± 11,75 vs. 60,2 mmol/mol ± 9,52; p=0,0093). This improvement was consistently observed after the period of 6 (59,7 mmol/mol ± 9,59; p=0,0174), 12 (56,5 mmol/mol ± 9,02; p=0,0006) and 24 (57,6 mmol/mol ± 8,43;...

Program Evaluation of an Induction Program in a Rural U.S. Middle SchoolGraddick, Jean Dorinda 01 January 2018 (has links)
This project study addressed the problem of induction teacher attrition at a rural middle school in the Southeastern United States. The study consisted of a program evaluation of a new induction program to ascertain the program's effectiveness in reducing induction teacher attrition. The theoretical framework for this study was Social constructivism. The goals of the evaluation were to (a) examine evidence supporting the effectiveness of the program, (b) identify whether the program helped the school to meet its new-teacher retention goals, and (c) evaluate induction program processes for their possible revision and improvement at other rural middle schools. A qualitative summative program evaluation using an anonymous online survey was used to gather qualitative data from 19 induction contract teachers at the school. Text analysis was used to search and categorize responses and identify frequently used words and phrases. The results showed that the revised induction program did not influence attrition positively or negatively. However, participation in the induction program provided a positive social outlet for new teachers at the school. The evaluation report included recommendations for program improvement, including the hiring of additional staff to improve induction teacher attrition rates. Implementation of these recommendations may affect positive social change by improving rural induction programs and induction teacher retention.

The educational program states that it is part of a blend with the overall philosophy of Arizona Boys Ranch, where individual treatment, behavior modification, independent living skills, basic counseling, work ethic, service to the community, restitution, and transition are additional areas of focus. However, a composite of the data indicated a trend of the educational program's use of a traditional curriculum, traditional student assessment strategies, and traditional teacher evaluation methods.
