Utveckling av kombisågMohammed Yasin, Noor, Dawood, Rua January 2013 (has links)

Influence of mathematics vocabulary teaching on primary six learners’ performance in geometry in selected schools in the Greater Accra region of GhanaOrevaoghene, Ngozi Obiageli 12 1900 (has links)
The study investigated the strategies used in teaching geometry in primary six as well as the perception of teachers on geometry vocabulary teaching, how geometry vocabularies were taught and, lastly, how the teaching of geometry vocabulary influenced primary six learners’ performance in geometry. The Van Hiele Theory of geometrical thinking and the Constructivist Theory of learning guided the study. The study conveniently sampled 250 primary 6 learners and 7 primary 6 mathematics teachers from three privately-owned primary schools in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It combined quantitative and qualitative approaches, using O1–X–O2 design. Data collection instruments were 5-point Likert type scale questionnaires (one for teachers, one for learners), a pre-test and post-test of basic geometry, and a semi-structured one-on-one audio-recorded interview of a selected number of learners and all seven teachers. An intervention was carried out in-between the pre-test and post-test, where the researcher taught geometry vocabulary to participants. Quantitative data were analysed using tables, charts, and simple tests while the qualitative analysis involved the transcription of interviews that were coded, categorised and themed. The study found that geometry vocabularies were not taught and that the most commonly used strategy for teaching geometry was the drawing of 2-D shapes and models of 3-D objects on the board. The pre-test and post-test scores were analysed using a paired t-test and the results indicated that the intervention had a positive effect. The qualitative and quantitative results confirmed that the teaching of geometry vocabulary improved learners’ performance in geometry. The study developed a prototype lesson plan for teaching 3-D objects, a geometry vocabulary activity sheet, a sample assessment for prisms and pyramids and recommends a curricular reform to inculcate the teaching of geometry vocabulary in the curriculum with a geometry vocabulary list for learners in each year group, as contribution to knowledge in mathematics education. The study recommends further research to investigate the effect of geometry vocabulary teaching on learners’ performance in geometry across all year groups in the primary school. An exploration of the teaching practices of education officers at a science centre in Pretoria, Gauteng ProvinceBilankulu, Hasani Justice 16 November 2020 (has links)
Abstract in English, Tswana and Xitsonga / Education officers based at science centres and museums play a significant role in teaching the visiting learners science. However, little is known about their teaching practices at these centres. The purpose of this study was to investigate the teaching practices of education officers when teaching science in a science centre environment. The focus of this study was on the education officers’ knowledge and instructional strategies used in teaching science at a science centre in Pretoria, Gauteng province. A qualitative case study approach was used. Data was collected from the three participating education officers using semi-structured interviews and observations. Data was analysed separately from each case using education officers’ knowledge framework guidance. The findings from this study indicate that although education officers have shown an adequate content knowledge in teaching science at the science centre their teaching method was teacher-centred and non-interactive and show-and-tell strategies were more common amongst the education officers. The study also revealed that education officers did not use their resources/exhibits effectively in teaching science. It is recommended in this study that intensive training of education officers is required before they can interact with the visiting learners. / Baokamedi ba thuto ba kwa mafelong a maranyane le dimusiamo ba tshameka karolo e e botlhokwa mo go ruteng barutwana ba ba etileng dithuto tsa maranyane. Correlates of recidivism among released prisoners, a study of Kakamega County, KenyaOruta, Evans Makori 19 January 2021 (has links)
Abstract in English, Venda and Tsonga / Released prisoners in Kenya have a 75% likelihood of committing another crime and a 50% probability of going to jail two years after their discharge from prison custody. From the trend of recidivism in Kenya, there are a staggeringly high number of offenders being incarcerated and eventually released back to the community, and the high risk of re-arrest and reincarceration is a concern for policymakers, criminologists and correctional managers.
This study examined the influence of offender characteristics, offender reintegration and community perception and attitude regarding recidivism in Kakamega County, Kenya. The study adopted a survey research design. Findings reveal a statistically significant relationship between offender characteristics and recidivism. In addition, offender reintegration and community perception and attitude towards offenders greatly influence recidivism.
From the study, it is recommended that the government provide correctional officers with the required resources to use the actuarial risk assessment model. The model is applied to the released offenders to predict the future probability of recidivism. In addition, it is recommended that the government and the various correctional stakeholders come up with an integrated approach that specifically targets successful re-entry of offenders upon release from prison. Finally, it is recommended that the government develop programmes targeting awareness of the community members to desist from stigmatising ex-offenders. The implementation of the internal audit provisions of the Public Finance Management Act (Act No. 1 1999): a case of the South African Social Security AgencySambo, Vaola Tinyiko 11 1900 (has links)
Abstracts in English, Swahili and Southern Sotho / The study reported in this thesis considered the implementation of the internal audit provisions of the Public Finance Management Act (Act No. 1 of 1999) or PFMA at the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). A review of literature pointed to the scarcity of research that focuses on the role that an effective internal audit function could play in advising management, when it comes to the institution of internal controls, in developing countries such as South Africa. In this context, the study emphasised the importance of internal controls that should be recommended by an internal audit function, specifically for purposes of averting financial misconduct. Thus, the problem statement for the study was articulated as follows: The existence of an internal audit function at SASSA has not resulted in improved internal controls, which contribute to the curbing of financial misconduct.
Consequently, the main research question for the study was: What are the necessary conditions under which the internal audit function at SASSA could be improved? Using agency theory, the study conceptualised an internal audit function as an important part of internal management controls that functions by reviewing, evaluating and making recommendations for the improvement of other controls within an institution, with the ultimate aim of promoting good governance. The research design and methodology for the study were qualitative, as it was necessary to get the views of the respondents on the various themes covered in the interview schedules and survey questionnaire. The case study design was employed as the operational framework for data collection.
The data collection techniques employed in the study were personal one-on-one interviews with two sets of senior managers, a survey questionnaire comprising open-ended questions, and a focus group discussion. The four data sets were collected as follows: one-on-one personal interviews with senior internal audit managers, interviews with other senior managers in some of the Agency’s areas that have been identified as strategic high-risk areas, a survey questionnaire that was completed by junior internal audit managers, as well as a focus group discussion with managers from the supply chain management department.
The population for the study was purposefully selected to achieve one of the key objectives of purposive sampling, namely ensuring that some diversity is included in a sample in order to allow for the influence of differences in respondents’ views due to the positions that they occupy.
As per the requirements of a doctorate, this study contributes at two levels: a theoretical and an empirical level. At theoretical level, the researcher developed data collection instruments, which other researchers could improve and use. At empirical level, the contribution of the study is a conceptual framework for the implementation of an internal audit function. The framework identifies the 18 conditions that must be in place for an internal audit function to be effective. In addition, the researcher makes recommendations for amendments to the PFMA and/or Treasury Regulations: PFMA. These recommendations will benefit all public institutions. It is thus believed that the study will make an important contribution towards efforts aimed at improving the internal audit function in the South African public sector at large. This is important, as the PFMA requires internal audit functions to assist accounting authorities with recommendations pertaining to the maintenance of effective controls. Internal audit functions have to evaluate these controls to determine their effectiveness and efficiency. Following that, they should develop recommendations for enhancement or improvement. / Dyondzondzavisiso leyi ku vikiwaka yona eka thesis leyi yi langutile ku humelerisiwa ka swipimelo swa oditi ya le ndzeni ya nawu wa Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1999 kumbe PFMA eka nhlangano wa South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
