Application au blindage de boîtiers d’équipement électronique / Homogenization methods for electromagnetic modeling of composite materials. Application to shielding enclosures of electronic devices

Préault, Valentin 06 December 2013 (has links)
The number of electronic devices and wireless communication systems has significantly increased over the past 20 years. Shielding enclosures used to protect electronic devices against radiated waves and to limit their emissions are usually designed in aluminum alloys. But the need to reduce the weight of aircraft incites the aerospace industry to the use of composite materials.Modeling shielding enclosures composed of homogeneous materials is possible by the use of numerical tools such as the finite element method. But considering every details of the microstructure would involve a excessive number of unknowns preventing numerical modelings. The use of semi-analytical homogenization methods is a possibility to overcome this restriction. The equivalent homogeneous mediums obtained with these methods can be inserted into numerical tools to simulate the electromagnetic behavior of complex shielding enclosures. But classical homogenization models such as Maxwell-Garnett model, are limited to quasi-static applications.Calculating the effective properties of composite materials illuminated by electromagnetic waves is the main objective of this work. This leads to two dynamic homogenization methods. The first one introduces a size effect between the fibers and the wavelength. It allows to extend a method based on inclusion problems to microwave frequencies. However it is limited by the occurrence of the skin effect in conductive inclusions. The second consider Joule losses and extends the first method after the occurrence of the skin effect. This second homogenization method is finally used to model the behavior of a realistic shielding enclosure.

Contribution à l'étude du blindage magnétique basse fréquence de boîtiers dédiés aux véhicules électriques et hybrides / Evaluation of low frequency shielding effectiveness of enclosures dedicated to electric and hybrid vehicles

Frikha, Amin 12 December 2014 (has links)
The electrification of transport means, in recent years leads to an increase of the use of the power electronics and the power involved in electric or hybrid vehicles (HEV). With the integration of electronic devices in more compact environments, appear problems of the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and the electromagnetic field exposure. To reduce the effects of electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic shielding is one of the possible solutions. This thesis focus mainly on the magnetic shielding at low frequency in near field of enclosures containing power electronics. Usually, the enclosures are equipped with openings and slots which results in degraded performance of the magnetic shield. We develop models for predicting the magnetic shielding taking into account the effects of diffusion, openings and slots. These models will allow designers to control the magnetic shielding constraints of embedded electronic devices in vehicles. The ability or capability of numerical methods to solve the problems of the magnetic fields diffusion in thin sheets in the presence and absence of openings is presented. In the case of enclosures with slots of small dimensions's, magnetic moments approaches are developed for the prediction of magnetic shielding effectiveness. Test benches are developed to validate these models. In the general case, so-called “hybrid” approaches combining the analytical and numerical methods are developed and experimentally validated. The developed approaches are also applied in the framework of an industrial application.

Immunité des implants cardiaques actifs aux champs électriques de 50/60 Hz / Immunity of active implantable cardiac devices at 50/60 Hz electric field

Gercek, Cihan 28 November 2016 (has links)
The European Directive 2013/ 35 / EU specify minimum requirements for the protection of workers exposed to electromagnetic fields and define with implants as “workers at particular risk”. Regarding the implantable cardioverter defibrillator wearers (ICD) or pacemaker (PM), exposure to electric or magnetic field of extremely low frequency creates inductions inside the human body that generate interference voltage which may cause the dysfunction of the implant. This thesis investigates the electromagnetic compatibility of cardiac implants subjected to an electric field low frequency (50/60 Hz). Computational simulations are effectuated in order to design an experimental bench for the exposure of a phantom including pacemakers or implantable defibrillators. A provocative study is established to define the electric field thresholds for preventing any malfunction of the implant. In numerical simulations; a virtual human model (digital phantom containing a cardiac implant) was placed in an upright position in a vertical exposure to an electric field. The finite element method was used to define the inductions in the cardiac implant level with a resolution of 2 mm (CST® software). In the experimental part, a test bench designed to allow generating an electric field up to 100 kV / m at frequencies 50-60 Hz was constructed, optimized and employed to investigate the behavior of cardiac implants.Several configurations were studied. 54 active cardiac implants (43 pacemakers and 11 defibrillators) are submitted to very high electric field of 50-60 Hz (up to 100 kV / m) inside the experimental bench. No failure was observed for public exposure levels for most configurations (+ 99%) except for six pacemakers in the case of a configuration clinically almost inexistent: unipolar mode with maximum sensitivity and atrial sensing. The implants configured with a nominal sensitivity in bipolar mode are resistant to electric fields exceeding the low action levels (ALs), even for the most high ALs, as defined by 2013 / 35 / EU

Conception de convertisseurs électroniques de puissance à faible impact électromagnétique intégrant de nouvelles technologies d'interrupteurs à semi-conducteurs / Design of electronic low-impact electromagnetic power converters incorporating new semiconductor switch technologies

Rondon-Pinilla, Eliana 18 June 2014 (has links)
The recent technological progress of semiconductors and increasing demand for power electronic converters in the different domains of electric energy particularly for applications in aeronautics and networks of transport and distribution impose new specifications such as high frequencies, high voltages, high temperatures and high current densities. All of this contributes in the strong development of SiC (Silicon Carbide) components. However these components create new issues in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) because of the conditions of high frequency switching and high commutation speeds (high di/dt and dv/dt) compared to other conventional components in power electronics. A precise study of the emissions generated by SiC components is therefore necessary. The aim of this work is to give a method able to predict levels of conducted emissions generated by a power electronics converter with SiC components to engineers which design power converters. The novelty of the work presented in this thesis is the integration of different modeling approaches to form a circuit model of a SiC-based converter (a buck dc–dc converter is considered as an example). The modeling approach is validated in the frequency range from 40Hz to 30MHz. Modeling approaches of the passive parts of the converter are presented. Theses approaches differs according to whether the component is existing or to be designed : they are based on measurements for the load and capacitors; they are based on numerical computation and analytical formulations for PCB. The complete model obtained (passive and active components) is used in simulations to predict the conducted emissions received by the line impedance stabilization network. The model is able to predict the impact of various parameters such as PCB routing, the control parameters like duty cycles and different gate resistors in the time and frequency domains. A good agreement is obtained in all cases up to a frequency of 15MHz. Finally, a parametric study of the converter has been elaborated. This study allowed to see the influence of different models such as parasitic elements of the PCB, passive and active components and to identify the elements that need a precise model to obtain valid results in the prediction of conducted EMI.

Electrical system fault based on the resulting magnetic signature by Wavelet.

Sevegnani, Francisco Xavier 21 August 2009 (has links)
A methodology based on the analysis of magnetic fields for monitoring the quality of energy in electrical systems is presented herein. Aspects referring to fault detection in electrical systems in particular are evaluated. Contrary to the traditional monitoring process, in which sensors must be physically linked to the circuits under analysis, the results are presented from a feasibility study on the use of signals arising from the resulting magnetic signature by means of the electrical systems analysis. Thus the non-invasive characteristic of this process should be pointed out. First, numerical simulations and experimental measures were used to estimate the validity of this method. Based on values of the current of phase-earth fault related to actual features of the distribution systems and derived from numeric simulations found in the literature, the magnetic fields, in pre-established regions, were calculated. Following this, the concepts related to wavelets in the treatment of resulting signals were applied. It is in this phase that, by means of the decomposition of the corresponding magnetic signature, the data necessary to correlate the signal components for the diagnosis of faults in electrical systems were obtained. A Multiresolution Analysis (MRA) was applied. In addition to these theoretical results, the results from a laboratory workbench were also examined. Some canonical features were pre-selected, aiming to study the influence of geometric aspects on the results related to the signal decomposition analyzed. Although analytical methods could be employed to determine the resulting magnetic signature, numerical methods, such as the finite element method, were used to expedite obtaining the theoretical results to be analyzed. Likewise, commercial software was also used for the decomposition of signals. This methodology was validated by comparing the measured and simulated magnetic flux density. This methodology was also applied to identify and classify faults by means of the variance curve towards the wavelet detail.

Feasibility of an Electrically Tuneable EMC Susceptibility Antenna for 26-150 MHz

Svensson, Lucas, Ljungné, Gustaf January 2019 (has links)
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is an essential part in today’s society and there are more products around us that emit electromagnetic waves than ever before. To make sure that all these products function properly under all circumstances EMC testing is needed. One test that is conducted is radiated immunity testing. A susceptibility antenna is needed to perform immunity testing. This thesis aims to show that a tuneable antenna could be used for immunity testing in the frequency band 26-150 MHz and in the future replace the current antenna, which is not tuneable, used at SAAB Support and Services EMC in Östersund. A simulation program called EZNEC+ was used to simulate different antennas that were tested in the semi-anechoic chamber at SAAB. Two antenna types showed better efficiency and reached lower in frequency than SAAB’s current antenna. These antennas were a bowtie antenna and an x-shaped antenna, both extending in only two spacial directions instead of the normal three. Their drawback was a less uniform E-field at the lowest frequencies, where the E-field was much stronger to the sides compared to straight in front of the antenna. This results in a narrow lobe width, but if this drawback could be accepted or mitigated both antennas are possible replacements for the current antenna at SAAB and should be further investigated.
