Rabah, Mazouzi 12 December 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the collaborative classification in the context of complex data, in particular the context of Big Data, we used some computational paradigms to propose new approaches based on HPC technologies. In this context, we aim at offering massive classifiers in the sense that the number of elementary classifiers that make up the multiple classifiers system can be very high. In this case, conventional methods of interaction between classifiers is no longer valid and we had to propose new forms of interaction, where it is not constrain to take all classifiers predictions to build an overall prediction. According to this, we found ourselves faced with two problems: the first is the potential of our approaches to scale up. The second, is the diversity that must be created and maintained within the system, to ensure its performance. Therefore, we studied the distribution of classifiers in a cloud-computing environment, this multiple classifiers system can be massive and their properties are those of a complex system. In terms of diversity of data, we proposed a training data enrichment approach for the generation of synthetic data from analytical models that describe a part of the phenomenon studied. so, the mixture of data reinforces learning classifiers. The experimentation made have shown the great potential for the substantial improvement of classification results.

On the Chair of the Universe, a Beetle-shaped Glass Buckles

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: This composition was commissioned by the Orgelpark to be performed in Amsterdam in September 2011 during Gaudeamus Muziekweek. It will be performed by the vocal group VocaalLab Nederland. It is scored for four vocalists, organ, tanpura, and electronic sound. The work is a culmination of my studies in South Indian Carnatic rhythm, North Indian classical singing, and American minimalism. It is a meditation on the idea that the drone and pulse are micro/macro aspects of the same phenomenon of vibration. Cycles are created on the macroscale through a mathematically defined scale of harmonic/pitch relationships. Cycles are created on the microscale through the subdivision and addition of rhythmic pulses. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.M. Music 2011

Convergences Op.28a for Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion and Piano by Marlos Nobre: A New Performance Edition and Analysis

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: Convergences, one of the best known orchestral pieces by Marlos Nobre, was originally written in 1968 and scored for winds, percussion and piano; however, that version was neither performed nor published. Upon contacting the composer, the author learned that there was no performance-ready edition available. The purpose of this project, therefore, was to create a performance edition of Convergences Op. 28a by Marlos Nobre; to lead the premiere performance of the original version of the work; and to provide potential future performers with a descriptive analysis of the work, along with biographical information about the composer. After receiving revisions from the composer, the author created a new score, using a music notation program; the score appears at the end of this document. Additionally, performance parts were extracted from the new score. The analytical portion of this paper discusses the structure of the three movements (Vivo, Adagio, Vivo), their interrelationships, and the organic use of motivic transformation that binds the movements together. The work is approximately twenty-one minutes long and is scored for a small wind ensemble comprising: flute/piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, six percussionists, and piano. / Dissertation/Thesis / D.M.A. Music 2012

Formes urbaines et ségrégations : une sociologie de la relégation des grands ensembles / Urban form and segregation : a sociology of the global mass housing relegation

Bertier, Marc 28 November 2013 (has links)
Numerous studies, demonstrate the segregation from which the inhabitants of certain districts in difficulties suffer. Said studies show that most of these districts are old French "priority development area" zones (ZUP), that are complexes of tower and slab built in France between 1950s and 1970s. These neighbourhoods have two peculiarities: they were built with a similar model and most of them are social housing. Urban phenomenon, urban policies and the situation of numerous co-ownership show that the criteria «social housing» is not enough to understand the banishment process. Urban policies, which grant an important budget for the action on the built, also suggest that the urban form participates in the mechanisms of exclusion. Does the materiality of the urban form impact the social distribution of the urban space? Do slabs and towers participate in the banishment of their inhabitants? The asked question is about the links established between a society and its spaces. The aim is to understand how social can interact with space. The proposed answer focuses on the case of French global mass housing. Showing how urban form can produce segregation, this thesis reveals the cognitive mechanisms stimulated by the visual perception that are working to slabs and towers blocks relegation. In other words, it explains how the view provides a feeling that is, in the case of domestic architecture, a social and cultural construction affecting the perception of the world, ways of doing, seeing and thinking, of behaviours and lifestyles of people in the urban areas.

Kernel

Walls, Jacob 18 August 2015 (has links)
Kernel is a fifteen-minute work for wind ensemble. Its unifying strands of rhythm, melody, and harmony are spun out of simple four-note tone clusters which undergo changes in contour, intervallic inversion, register, texture, and harmonic environment. These four notes make up the "kernel" of the work, a word used by Breton to refer to the indestructible element of darkness prior to all creative invention, as well as a term used in computer science to refer to the crucial element of a system that, if it should fail, does so loudly.

An Annotated Bibliography of Symphonies for Wind Band

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: This study catalogues symphonies for wind band from the origin of the genre in the late eighteenth century through 2014. Wind bands include any mixed wind group of eight or more players. Works using the word "symphony" or its derivatives in the title are included in the study. A total of 1342 works that fit these criteria were identified. An annotated bibliography (Appendix A) includes detailed information about 695 of these works. Such information was not available for an additional 621 wind band symphonies; consequently, these works are listed in a second appendix that includes a list of sources for each work so that future researchers might investigate them further. The final appendix lists 26 wind band symphonies that are no longer available based on the author's current sources. The titles included in this study were found by examining many repertoire resources for the wind band, including previous studies of wind band symphonies and more comprehensive repertoire resources like the Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music and the website "The Wind Repertory Project." Details of each piece in the annotated bibliography were found in their scores whenever possible. Contact with composers and publishers, through both their websites and direct correspondence, played a major role in this part of the study. The classified bibliography in this document sorts all of these sources categorically for easy reference. All parts of this document are intended as tools for conductors wishing to research or program symphonies for wind band. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2015
