The diploma thesis deals with the development of an ESP (English for specific purpose) course for aviation English. The theoretical part introduces the methodology for ESP course development, the demands on the teacher and other specifics associated with ESP; the practical part focuses on the contents of the course and its evaluation based on the feedback provided by the teacher and the students. In the conclusion the results of the feedback are discussed and the possible solutions suggested.

This thesis project details research conducted and the method employed to create a tool for acquiring the technical vocabulary from the Utah Driver Handbook. Technical terms were compiled into a vocabulary tool for English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. ESL programs within the state have noted the need for materials to help learners acquire this vocabulary. The tool will assist ESL learners preparing for the written driving exam by reinforcing the vocabulary through various iterations, including flash cards, simplified definitions, and an L1 gloss. Learners preparing for the exam will be able to study difficult vocabulary terms using the tool. The tool includes flashcards containing definitions and images, a list of terms with simplified learner definitions, and a list of terms in English with their Spanish equivalent. The tool was created with the intent of providing learners with the ability to revisit difficult terms in a number of ways (i.e. Quizlet, images, simplified definitions, and an L1 gloss). The intended outcome of this research is that the tool will be useful to ESL learners preparing for the written driving exam and be made applicable to learners in other settings.

The Master Thesis work has been carried out at Xylem HQ, Sundbyberg, Sweden in collaboration with Linköping University, Department of Management and Engineering. The work was to evaluate in different ways energy savings in wastewater pumping stations and conclude what is the discrepancy between them, emphasizing on the theoretical model and measured data. Two pump stations were chosen to be modeled by mathematical calculations based on theoretical pump and system curves. Based on the same inputs, a commercial tool was used to calculate energy savings. Moreover, theoretical curves and variable speed drives were combined into an own developed testing platform in LabView, as an alternative evaluation solution. Finally, measured data was collected and used in a specific energy algorithm, designed to have as inputs water level and energy. In term of method accuracy, initial assumptions are wrong. For a given frequency, the results show similar values for all four evaluation methods. Also, variable speed is confirmed as a good control philosophy for less energy use than direct online.

A delimitação temporal foi estipulada com base no corpus documental medular de nossa pesquisa arquivos da Polícia Política, mais conhecida como Delegacia de Ordem Política e Social (DOPS). Essa documentação trata especificamente da Ação Integralista Brasileira no Espírito Santo, sendo que parte foi produzida pela própria instituição policial e a outra foi apreendida quando se iniciou a repressão oficial ao movimento. A escolha da data inicial (1933) se deve ao fato de nesse ano ter ocorrido a fundação do primeiro núcleo da Ação Integralista Brasileira no estado do Espírito Santo, enquanto o marco final (1942), foi a guerra declarada pelo Brasil contra os países membros do Eixo (Alemanha, Itália e Japão), o que acarretou nova repressão aos antigos membros do movimento Integralista e consequente produção de uma série de prontuários que identificam os ex-integrantes da AIB no estado. A repressão ao Integralismo em 1942 se justificou devido o caráter do movimento, inspirado nos princípios do fascismo europeu, base dos regimes das nações do Eixo. Mas antes que a AIB ganhasse o status de inimigo do governo de Getúlio Vargas, o que aconteceu no ano de 1938, em consequência de golpe malograda contra o referido líder político, os mesmos tiveram, no decorrer da década de 1930, amplo vulto no cenário político nacional, bem como no local. Além do mais, a AIB era aliada do regime, principalmente no combate ao comunismo. A dissertação busca analisar a construção de um discurso anti-integralista através dos documentos apreendidos e produzidos pela Delegacia de Ordem Política e Social, bem como construir um panorama sobre a organização e atuação da Ação Integralista Brasileira no Espírito Santo.

<p>The overarching objective in undertaking this study is to examine the impact of the implementation of EGP and ESP program for ESP teachers in China, to explore into tertiary-level ESP teachers’ transformative learning experiences as well as the personal, institutional and societal factors that either facilitate or constrain such transformation. I employed narrative inquiry as the research methodology to reflect teachers’ profound transformative learning experiences from story collections through co-construction and collaboration with participant teachers in all phases of research. Five ESP teachers’ unique trajectories mirror their unique learning and professional development roadmap.</p> <p>Through detailed examination, I concluded that teachers stepped into the new territory of ESP instruction with various degrees of hesitation and resistance. Their non-linear transformative learning experiences shed lights on the uncertainty and struggles they confronted along the journey, and demonstrate how teachers hold their own stance adjusting the complex instructional ecosystem to enhance their potential success being as an ESP instructor.</p> <p>The significance of this study lies in the exploration of ESP teachers’ transformative learning from a critical perspective. By taking into consideration the essence of a teacher as an adult learner, this study will not only break through the existing studies’ inadequate attention to teacher’s transformative learning, but also emphasizes the value of teacher learning for their own transformation, emancipation and professional advancement.</p>
