La zone d'activité logistique comme levier de développement économique des territoires / The logistics center as a leverage for regional economic development

Bounie, Nathan 27 September 2017 (has links)
However, logistics activities induce negative externalities: first, by the flows created by these activities, then by the facilities supporting it (infrastructures, equipment, buildings, etc.). To attract logistics activities, while reducing negative externalities, local public authorities use a certain number of regulatory tools. To that extent, a public policy is mostly used, pushed forward by modal report necessity linked with sustainable development: the logistics center, which is an area equipped in order to host logistics activities. This thesis focuses on the articulation between planning policies and regional economic development. The first part brings to light different roles played by logistics centers: two external roles, direct and indirect, and one internal. By using original methods and data, the second part of this thesis aims to test the validity of these different roles. The major result of this work is that by nature of logistics activities – which take part in enlarged chains and networks – the wider economic impacts of logistics centers are low

Janečková, Martina January 2009 (has links)
The thesis analyses the essential determinants of the global importance which are currently causing the turbulent changes in the immediate and wider context of leisure and travel. The tourism industry is an important part of the national economy and the lifestyle. The global factors and their impact on the field of tourism were identified through the academic resources and a survey realized in Autumn and Winter 2009/10. A questionnaire was used for data collecting and a sample of 104 respondents was created. The following determinants were described: the level of political stability in tourism destination including the risk of terrorist attacks and other violence risks, the global financial crisis, the natural disasters and the occurrence of infectious diseases. The development of tourism is also affected by the world-wide globalization, the changing climate, the ageing of population, the greater mobility and the mass leisure including the process of changing values. The results of the empirical survey confirmed the validity of the given hypothesis. Finally the recommendations for the tourism businesses resulting from the analysis were introduced.

Economic Analysis of HIV/AIDS Pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa / Ekonomická analýza pandemie AIDS v Subsaharské Africe

Nýdrle, Tomáš January 2009 (has links)
HIV/AIDS is a real threat for Sub-Saharan Countries. It increased adult mortality substantially. HIV/AIDS pandemic causes the death of the most productive part of affected population. Human capital passing on to future generations is limited. Low economic performance and income inequality induce higher HIV vulnerability. Contra wise HIV/AIDS has significant negative effect on the welfare of affected population. The sources of pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa are not only social and cultural. Health and nutrition situation play considerable role. Holistic approach based on education, fidelity, abstinence and improvement of economic situation and moderate condom use (as the last way of prevention) seems to be an effective way of pandemic elimination.

Finanční dopady ekonomické krize na hudební festivaly klasické hudby v České republice / Financial impacts of the economic crisis on Czech festivals of classical music

Jelínek, Jakub January 2013 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to map and interpret the financial impacts of the economic crisis on a selected group of classical music cultural events by describing the influence of the possible decline in financial resources on their output and efficiency. The first part of the thesis presents the theoretical basis of culture financing and cultural policy in the Czech Republic and sums up the fundamental economic theories of the behaviour of economy during economic crisis, thus providing a starting point for further interpretation of the performance of these organizations. The second part of this thesis comprises qualitative research of possible variables on a representative sample of classical music festivals. The research is carried out through a content analysis of their annual reports and a secondary analysis of other data provided by relevant institutions. The final section of the thesis attempts to evaluate the impact of the economic crisis on the cultural sector, to confirm or disprove the initial premises and to evaluate generally the financial stability of the Czech classical music festivals.

Analýza ekonomického a neekonomického dopadu konania MS v hokeji 2011 na Slovensku so zameraním na cestovný ruch. / The analysis of economic and non-economic impacts of organization of the 2011 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship in Slovakia with emphasis on tourism

Vyšná, Kristína January 2011 (has links)
In the first part of this final thesis the theory of tourism events and their impact on the host destination is discussed, with particular focus on major sport events. Impacts are divided into two categories: economic and non-economic (socio-cultural, environmental, marketing impact and impact on infrastructure). These break into sub-categories and are described in detail. The second part of the thesis uses the theoretical knowledge outlined in part one to analyse the impact of a specific major sporting event -- the 2011 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship that took place in Bratislava and Kosice in Slovakia. Emphasis is placed on analysing the effects the event had on the tourism sector in Slovakia. Having analysed both economic and non-economic impacts of the event, the thesis concludes that the overall impact of the event on the Slovak tourism sector was positive and the Slovak Republic can use this momentum in favour of further development of Slovak tourism sector.

River Sand Mining and Socio-Environmental Impacts: Parallel Case Studies Along the Red River in China and the Mekong River in Cambodia

Lauzon, Amélie 24 April 2023 (has links)
Asian countries are urbanizing at an unprecedented rate, which has led to significant demand for sand. While sand mining fuels infrastructure development, creates livelihoods, and stimulates local economic activity, it also drives a series of environmental and socio-economic consequences which cannot be ignored. These include erosion, the destruction of habitats and loss of biodiversity, the deterioration of traditional livelihoods, forced displacement of communities, and damage to homes and infrastructure. On the one hand, this thesis uses mixed methods to study the multifaceted impacts of sand mining along the Red River in China, near the Vietnamese border. On the other hand, using qualitative methods, it explores how these impacts unfold along the Mekong River in Cambodia, near Phnom Penh. Using a political ecology approach, it identifies the actors involved in sand mining, their motives, and their impacts on the environment and local communities. The extractivism framework is used to describe sand mining activities and practices. In doing so, this thesis contributes to the literature on the understudied sand mining industry and its far-reaching impacts.

Development actors and the issues of acid mine drainage in the Vaal River system

Naidoo, Suvania 03 1900 (has links)
This study focuses on Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) in the three basins of the Witwatersrand’s goldfields in the Vaal River System in South Africa. AMD has become a highly contested issue. A difference in its definition exists between two groups of role-players identified in the study: government and consultants/activists/NGOs. This study unpacks the differences in the way AMD is defined, the situation of AMD in each of the three basins and the socio-economic implications caused by AMD. A crucial finding was that these definitions determine how the issue is understood and what solutions these role-players propose. The main purpose of the study was to determine whether the South African government’s policy response was appropriate given the socio-economic impacts of AMD and imperatives of sustainable development. This study concluded that, in the policy, there was no clear indication as to what the socio-economic impacts are, and limited attention was therefore given to these impacts. / Development Studies / M.A. (Development Studies)

The socio-economic impacts of displacement : gentrification in the Point precinct, Durban

Fitzgerald, Tara Jade 02 1900 (has links)
In South Africa, gentrification has a huge impact on the makeup of city spaces where it has been used as a redevelopment tool in order to restore and enhance these spaces. However, socio-economic turmoil is created when development benefits mainly the elite minority whilst marginalising the poor majority, which occurs in many instances of gentrification. In the worst cases, gentrification creates a trickle-up affect whereby the benefits of such a process are felt predominantly by the urban elite. This is evident in this study, where gentrification at the Point Precinct in Durban led to the marginalisation of residents of the Ark, a Christian-run homeless shelter that was forced to shut down as its residents no longer fitted in with the image-conscious ideals of the redeveloping area. These residents were displaced and ultimately relocated to a severely under-developed area known as Welbedacht approximately 30km away. This study aimed to explore the negative socio-economic impacts of displacement as a result of this gentrification and found that these impacts are vast, severe and long-lasting, including the social implications of isolation and exclusion coupled with the economic loss of living along the periphery. The implications of displacement are severe primarily due to the following reasons: the community’s displacement from the core to the urban periphery, the lack of social justice in the area, and the high levels of social exclusion. Furthermore, the implications of the gentrification process itself has resulted in a cycle of impoverishment in which Welbedacht has become entrenched. Due to the neo-liberal policies favoured by developers and policy makers, the urban poor are pushed out of the core and into the periphery with little support from local government, thereby resulting in the further marginalisation of a vulnerable community. Developers and policy makers should therefore strive for development that is equitable for all parties. Furthermore, facilities such as homeless shelters which provide countless services to the urban poor should not be shut down, but rather local government should strive to either redevelop such facilities or relocate them to an area that offers the same characteristics for the continued successful socio-economic development of the urban poor. / Geography / M.
