Exploring EHR Adoption and Implementation: The Impact of Resource Advantage Theory on Healthcare Organization's Competitive Position

The hospitals and their healthcare providers need to optimize simultaneously three outcomes: healthcare costs, healthcare options offered to customers, and information utilization efficiency. The adoption of electronic healthcare record (EHR) technologies is a potential managerial mechanism for balancing these outcomes. EHR offers patient management and decision support capabilities that can ameliorate health delivery outcomes for patients, doctors, and hospitals through better-informed business and care decisions. The analysis of data collected in an EHR system may lower costs and improve health care delivery (or both). In sum, it could be argued that EHR is a source of competitive advantage. Despite this prima facie appeal, many hospitals remain reluctant to adopt and implement EHR due to lack of insights into return on investment, unavailability of tested systems and data entry obstacles. To address this gap between the potential of EHR system and lack of its adoption, the purpose of this research is to investigate the role of EHR as a resource of competitive advantage for hospital. Essay 1, titled "Implementation and Adoption of EHR: A Conceptual Model based on Resource Advantage Theory", describes the antecedents and consequences of EHR adoption and implementation. Essay 2, titled "Exploring the Relationship Between Electronic Healthcare Record Adoption and Quality of Care", delves deeper into the operational performance of a hospital. This essay focuses on the impact of EHR on different aspects of patient care and thereby on the financial performance of the hospital. Essay 3, titled "The Effect of Resources on a Hospital's Financial Performance: The Moderating Role of Electronic Health Records Implementation and Adoption", is an empirical inquiry into the key factors that may influence hospitals' financial performance. These include organizational factors (such as, number of nurses and beds) and environmental factors (such as, location and received donations). Further, this essay explores the interaction effects between EHR and these factors. In summary, this research provides a conceptualization and an empirical investigation of EHR adoption and implementation and its impact on hospitals' operational and financial performance, an area receiving widespread attention from health care organizations, patient rights activists, public policy makers and the media. Future research can take two paths. First, further research should address questions related to the integration of EHR with other production and inventory management systems, and the prospective benefits attained from system integration. Second research is needed to investigate how parallel information transfer across multiple stakeholders may concurrently preserve Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, reduce health care delivery costs and optimize service quality.

在選填幼教系的那刻起,我就知道未來要承接母親所經營的兒童教育事業,但 內心卻常有個聲音是「好希望我是願意承接母親經營的事業,但為何我始終沒辦法 也不願意做出這個選擇?」。母親在我童年時期忙碌的景象,使我一直擔憂承接後, 我的孩子也會像我童年時期一樣孤單,但若不選擇承接,母親還會愛我嗎? 這進退兩難的處境在遇見兩位幼兒園接班人後,開啟了我的探尋之旅。無論是 透過訪談準幼兒園接班人、訪談家人以及接受心理諮商,甚至一年代理經營等等的 探尋行動,我看見過去的自己是依附在母親的期待中與一昧想像他人一樣。藉由自 身不斷行動、敘說與反思,促動原先對他者與自己既定且僵化信念的改變,透過說 也看見自身的生命起伏與演變的意義脈絡,當人能看見此意義脈絡的同時也就能看 見人自身經歷存在的價值,使過往在認回自我的過程中得以平靜安穩的存在,進而 拾回生命的主權為自己做決定,有力量思考承接與否的挑戰。而承接家業對我而 言,成了可以實踐自我理想的選擇。 / In the election of the pediatric system, I know that the future to undertake the mother's children's education business, but the heart is often a voice is "I hope I am willing to undertake the cause of the mother's business, but why I have no way do not want to make this choice? By their own action, narrative and reflection, to promote the original and their own established and rigid beliefs of the change, through that also see their own ups and downs of life and evolution of the meaning of the context, when people can see this sense of context at the same time also can see the value of the existence of their own experience, so that in the past to recover the self in the process of calm and stable existence, and then retrieve the sovereignty of life for their own decisions, have the power to think about whether to undertake or not. And to undertake the family business for me, has become a self-ideal choice.

Preliminary studies attested extensive theoretical and bibliographic production alluding to public basic education and often in higher education. In the light of dialectical perspective sought the construction of theoretical and conceptual frameworks that guide studies on University Management in Brazil (2003-2013); with the objective to identify and analyze these concepts in Official Documents; Articles in the journal evaluation; Posters presented at the Symposia of the Congress of ANPAE; the contribution of the theory of Leontiev Activity; the similarities between the different theoretical contributions. We opted for a methodology of qualitative-critical nature of documentary-bibliographic database using the content analysis (Franco 2005). The construction of the object was marked by a literature review on the portals of CAPES and Google and theoretical contributions from three fields Scientific: Administration (Chiavenato - 2014 and Silva - 2001); Education (Paro-Sander- 1986 and 1995) and Psicologia - Activity Theory (Leontiev, 1983) .The empirical and theoretical corpus was built for six Official Documents (LDB 1961 Law n.5540 - 1968 Constitution 1988 LDBEN 1996 , PNE-2001-2010 and Decree n.3860-2001), on 13 articles of the journal Evaluation and by 18 Posters annals of Symposia of the Congress of ANPAE (2003-2013) .DOS theoretical fields of Administration, Education and Psychology - Activity Theory, we identified 94 terms- concepts depicting the Administration and the university management, with 06 common: autonomy, institutional assessment, democratization, strategic planning, quality and quality education. About the Author-s Works cited as theoretical contributions were identified 89, 39 in Articles 51 and 09 in Pôsteres. Estudos preliminares atestaram uma vasta produção teórico-bibliográfica alusiva à educação básica pública e, amiúde também, à educação superior. À luz da perspectiva dialética, buscou-se a construção das bases teórico-conceituais que orientam os estudos sobre Gestão Universitária no Brasil (2003-2013), tendo como objetivos identificar e analisar estes conceitos em Documentos Oficiais, nos Artigos da Revista Avaliação e nos Pôsteres apresentados nos Simpósios dos Congressos da ANPAE. An Examination of Business Professors' Experiences with Remote Teaching under COVID-19: Lessons Learned for the Future

During the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, universities throughout the United States closed their campuses and transitioned their face-to-face courses to remote learning. The unprecedented transition created a unique learning and teaching environment. This case-based qualitative study investigates the experiences of business professors from a prestigious school of business that taught during the transition. Findings derived from the digital Likert survey instrument completed by all the business faculty and semi-structured interviews of selected business faculty. Some of the topics of the survey and interviews included communicating with students, developing the learning management system course content, delivering asynchronous material, delivering synchronous classes, and providing instructional feedback. Findings included a significant growth in business professor's perceived skillset in almost all topics, an interest in further developing skills, and an interest in adopting the new skills in future face-to-face courses. Through NVIVO analysis of the interviews, four thematical elements were identified: faculty efficacy, faculty training, course delivery, rapport. The study investigated a deep wholistic view of the data presented and provided an extensive in-depth description of the social phenomenon. A practical framework for incorporating the identified themes was developed for business schools needing to establish and maintain online business programs.

Self-Directed Leadership Development with Adaptive Learning 360-Feedback Platform

Leadership theories have evolved since their inception and leadership development should also evolve in response to the changing needs of their organizations. There is a gap in the literature on the functionality of the various 360-feedback platforms that are mentioned in literature which makes it difficult to understand what reporting functionality is available in existing systems. The goal of this study was to examine participants' views of a newly developed Adaptive Learning 360-feedback (AL360) treatment platform for leadership development with a focus on self-directed learning for improved accountability. Participants were asked to share their learning development experience in the areas of person, process, and context with suggestions for improvement and how did this development compare to any other leadership development that they had experienced in the past. The AL360 platform was built by applying the research findings of scholars in the areas of leadership, 360-feedback leadership development and educational technologies. The treatment was applied in a business setting for all levels of leadership development. The case study identified creation of leadership of self-awareness and accountability for development without significant intervention of an executive coach. The research findings also list improvement opportunities, limitations, and future considerations.

Examination of the Alignment between the SHRM Competency Model and Undergraduate Syllabi of Human Resources and Management Degree Programs in Texas

The purpose of this study was to provide a snapshot of current Human Resources (HR) and Management curricula of four-year public universities in Texas in 2016 and evaluate their alignment with the competencies of the SHRM Competency Model®. This study used a mixed methods approach and analyzed course syllabi for a purposeful sample of 21 public universities in Texas. The course objectives referenced explicitly and/or implicitly all nine competencies. Three courses encompassed all nine competencies, and 84% of all programs demonstrated alignment with the competencies. “Business Acumen”, “Critical Evaluation”, “Communication” and “Relationship Management” were the most frequently referenced competencies in course syllabi. “Consultation” appeared the least frequently. This comprehensive analysis revealed that there is alignment between course curricula of public universities in Texas and competency expectations of graduates wishing to pursue a career in Human Resources. Recommendations applied to four areas including scholarship, university administration, professional associations, and practitioners.
