Pérez Herrera, María Cecilia January 2015 (has links)

Mental imagery ability in high and low performance collegiate basketball players

Eslinger, Oliver Warren January 2002 (has links)

Thank you. / 172 college basketball players (56 males, 116 females) from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III were analyzed to determine how mental imagery ability (lA) relates to high and low physical performance. Investigation centered on performance lA (the ability to create, recall, and manipulate images during action) as a potential factor for competitive separation (athletic distinction between high and low performers). More specifically, research examined which of several imagery functions or types were the best predictors of successful basketball game performance. It was hypothesized that kinesthetic imagery and cognitive imagery would be the most important imagery functions. The Basketball Background Questionnaire (BBQ; Eslinger, 2002), Movement Imagery Questionnaire-Revised (MIQ-R; Hall & Martin, 1997), and the Sport Imagery Questionnaire (SIQ; Hall, Mack, Paivio, & Hausenblas, 1998) were utilized as measures of lA while physical performance was calculated using the Basketball-Performance Statistic Rating (B-PSR; Eslinger, 2002). Additional data was collected from selected athletes to identify characteristics related to imagery use and development. Results from correlation, multiple regression, t-tests, ANOVA, and discriminant function analyses suggest that, in general, basketball performance is best enhanced through kinesthetic imagery and motivational specific imagery. Elite players are able to perform consistently at a high level because they have an ability to feel the action and increase their internal drive for success before and during games. Surprisingly, cognitive general imagery scores were higher in low-level players, suggesting these athletes think "too much" during competition. In addition, depending on gender, playing position, and NCAA division, other types of imagery may be important influences of performance. Differences and associations between high and low performers and imagers as they relate to the B-PSR and seven types of imagery ability are discussed. A new model of performance imagery is highlighted based on previous theories and current results. Directions for future research are covered that shape sport psychology research, application, and possible imagery training techniques for basketball players and coaches. / 2031-01-01

Economia de abastecimento em uma sociedade exportadora: o município de Pouso Alegre/MG na transição para o século XX / Economy of supply in an exporting society: the municipality of Pouso Alegre / MG in the transition to the XX century

Vale, Fernando Henrique do 06 August 2018 (has links)
This research is part of the group of studies that study economic dynamics in the South of Minas Gerais, specifically between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a transition period for a capitalist society in which the country underwent modernization. Our object of study, Pouso Alegre, was consolidated as one of the main municipalities of the South of Minas in the period proposed in this study, because it possesses the greatest number of inhabitants of the region, being in a strategic point, which made it a kind of center supplier regional. Unlike other cities in the region, where economic dynamism was a result of the expansion of coffee production, in Pouso Alegre, supply agriculture was responsible for the growth and constitution of one of the most important regional markets in the South of Minas. With the documentation raised, the process of urbanization of the municipality was approached, through the Municipal Camera Acts and legislative documents; the real estate records showed us, starting from the transactions of rural and urban properties, the dynamics that took place in the spaces of the city and its districts; and finally, post-mortem inventories have given us clues about the establishment of the elite and the local wealth. With these documents and the other bibliographical readings, we began the construction of an economic history of Pouso Alegre and expanded that of the South of Minas region.

Formation et transformations d'une élite coloniale : Puebla (1560-1639) / Formation and transformations of colonial elite : Puebla (1560-1639)

Senmartin, Émilie 17 July 2017 (has links)
The goal of this contribution is to study the construction and the evolution of the elite through the structure of the "cabildo" of Puebla de Los Angeles in New Spain. This city was founded by spaniars settlers in 1531. The elite that was stablished during the very first years is essentially composed by spaniards conquerors. The office of "regidor" is then a royal grace received as a reward for their participation in the conquest war. Very close relationships are established between the different regidores who, quickly, form the same family clan dominated by the Díaz de Vargas and the Villanueva. But as of 1591 and the establishment of the venality process of the offices, the cards are redistributed. New members from other social and economic groups enter the cabildo: the obrajeros and the mercaderes. There follows tensions between the different groups and a recomposition of this elite no longer following military bases but economic, recomposition driven by different family strategies. The composition of this new elite, dominated by the mercaderes, did not lead to the disappearance of the old one. On the contrary, it is necessary for the new power class to acquire the lacking social status. Thus this new group has all the components of the new economic and social elite of the city of Puebla: conquistadores, obrajeros and mercaderes
