The study area is included in the regional context of Pernambuco Belt that is part of the Central Domain of Borborema Province. The Timbaúba complex comprises an area of about 350 km2 and consists of three E-W elongated plutons, intruded along the eastern portion of the E-W trending, dextral sense Coxixola - Timbaúba shear zone. They intrude Neoproterozoic metavolcanic - metasedimentary sequence, which includes garnet-bearing biotite gneiss intercalated with mafic metavolcanic rocks, and marbles. This study focuses on the field relationships and chemical characteristics of the largest of these plutons, which have U-Pb zircon SHRIMP age of 616 ± 5 Ma, with their enclaves. The main intrusion consists of monzogranites granodiorite and tonalite containing microgranular mafic enclaves, dioritic and amphibolites, rounded to ellipsoidal with different stages of hybridization, as well as xenoliths and surmicáceos enclaves. The granitoids are metaluminous, high-K, to normal calc-alkaline and magnesian, while the enclaves are ferroan. Amphibole is the dominant mafic phase, followed by biotite. Titanite occurs as euhedral crystals, reaching up to 1.5 cm long within the migmatized portions, as well as anedral secondary crystals, resulted from biotite and amphibole destabilization. The multielement chondrite normalized patterns clearly differ from the enclaves and their host granitoids. The enclaves have a much lower concentration of all trace elements, except Ti, resulting in a less fractionated pattern compared to the host. Zoned allanite with high levels of total REE in the core and very low on the edge was recorded in some enclaves. The Al-content in amphiboles from the magmatic enclaves and their host granitoids and using the Anderson and Smith’s calibration (1995), defined solidification pressures of the ~3.6Kb and ~5.5Kb respectively. The temperatures of plagioclase - amphibole equilibrium range from ~700°C in the host granitoids and 650-800°C for the enclaves. The calculated viscosity revealed that enclave and their host had a difference of two orders of magnitude during cooling. Amphiboles are calcic, and have composition of tschermakite to Mg-hornblende and Mg-hastingsite to edenite for the enclaves, Mg-hastinguisite, edenite and tschermakite for the host rocks. The fO2 conditions, based on amphibole composition, for both enclaves and their host, are high. Biotite composition is similar to biotite of calc-alkaline granitoids with Fe/(Fe+Mg) ratios ranging from 0.43 to 0.52. The narrow variation in the Fe/(Fe+Mg) ratios recorded in the biotites and, the amphibole chemistry sugest the studied granitoids crystallized under near constant temperature and oxygen fugacity conditions. The plagioclases have a composition ranging from andesine to oligoclase. Correlation between host granitoids and enclaves, using major elements from whole rock as well as mineral chemistry, revealed that the enclaves-host pairs follow a shared evolutionary pattern. However, the enclaves and the host rocks have distinct sources.

Effects of history, location, and size of ethnic enclaves and ethnic restaurants on authentic cultural and gastronomic experiences

Song, Hanqun, Kim, J-H. 30 March 2022 (has links)
Yes / Purpose – The extant gastronomy literature has rarely examined a connection between authentic gastronomic experiences and destinations. Specifically, ethnic enclaves, which are unique gastronomic and cultural destinations providing ethnic cuisine and cultural experiences to visitors, have been under-researched. Thus, the current study aims to address this knowledge gap. Design/methodology/approach – Employing a 2 (history: long vs short) x 2 (location: Central Business District [CBD] vs rural; main street vs alleyway) x 2 size/ownership type (big vs small; chain vs independent) between-subjects design, two experiments were conducted using a sample of 557 British consumers to test the effect of history, location, and size of ethnic enclaves and ethnic restaurants on consumers’ authentic cultural and gastronomic experiences in a UK context. Findings – In Study 1, ethnic enclave’s size affected consumers’ authentic cultural experiences. In Study 2, restaurants’ history and ownership type positively influenced consumers’ authentic gastronomic experiences. Both studies consistently reported the positive relationship between authentic experiences and behavioral intentions. Practical implications – For ethnic enclaves, the management team may consider expanding the size of ethnic enclaves to increase consumers’ authentic cultural experience. For those ethnic restaurants within the ethnic enclave, any independent or old ethnic restaurants should actively promote both characteristics in their marketing materials to create a feeling of offering authentic gastronomic experiences to customers. Originality/value – This study identified important ethnic enclave-related factors and ethnic restaurant-related factors forming consumers’ authentic cultural and gastronomic experiences.

Mineralogia e petrologia de enclaves microgranulares de nefelina sienitos do Maciço Alcalino Poços de Caldas (MG-SP) / Mineralogy and petrology of microgranular enclaves of Poços de Caldas Alkaline Massif\'s nepheline syenites (MG-SP)

Ricardi, Bruna Passarelli 26 April 2010 (has links)
The miaskitic to intermediate nepheline syenites of Poços de Caldas Alkaline Massif, especially the Pedreira type, have intriguing felsic and mafic-ultramafic microgranular enclaves. The Pedreiras nepheline syenite type (NeS) can be divided into two textural facies: one that is medium-coarse to coarse grained (NeS-c) and the other that varies between medium-fine to fine grained (NeS-f). It is common among the NeS-c microgranular felsic enclaves (MFE) with phonolitic composition. These enclaves may develop smaller ones maficultramafic, generating double enclaves. The NeS-f usually presents mafic-ultramafic enclaves (MME), sometimes showing disrupted features in plastic stage and sometimes angular and linear edges. Phonolitic dykes cut the NeS-c. The rocks studied in this work are formed by nepheline, alkali-feldspar and clinopyroxene. The accessory phase is characterized by titanite, magnetite and biotite-phlogopite. In exception to the NeS-c, apatite also occurs as an accessory mineral. In the NeS-c, NeS-f and MFE, the clinopyroxene presents two textural phases: a green prismatic one (aegirine-augite), which also may have a pinkish/colourless core (diopsyde, which is common in the NeS-f and MFE); the other one is fibrous, also green, however with strongly pleocroism (aegirine). Essencially, the MME are formed by diopsyde, with M(medium)~80. When porphyritic, the enclave has macrocrystals of pinkish/colourless diopsyde (with mg#~0,9) in a green diopsyde (mg#~0,8) matrix, both prismatic. In the NeS, the magnetite varies little: with low levels of Ti, differently from the enclaves magnetite. The chemical signature of the nepheline in the MME equals to the one present in the NeS-f and has more Fe3+ and less K when compared to the NeS-c. The alkaline feldspar in the MFE has more potassium in its structure and presents a higher compositional variation in the MME (Ab10-33Or72-80). It is also noticeable that biotite is a component only to the MFE, while the phlogopite occurs in the MME. The rare earth elements (REE) pattern in the pinkish/colourless clinopyroxene of the NeS-f is similar to the MME. Both aegirine-augite and aegirine present an enrichment regarding the heavy REE. The MME are ultrabasic, classified as tephrite/basanite (Le Bas et al., 1986) or nephelinite/ankaratrites (De La Roche et al., 1980), while the felsic rocks are intermediate, corresponding to phonolite and nepheline syenite, depending on the grain size. The dykes and the NeS-f are peralkaline, while the MFE, NeS-c and the MME are peralkaline/metaluminous. The ultrabasic/ultrapotassic rocks, outcropping in the northwestern portion of the PCAM (Ulbrich et al., 2002), have REE patterns wich indicate that these rocks may be genetically related to mafic-ultramafic enclaves. Generally, the structural, textural and chemical signatures of the rocks studied in this work confirm the hypothesis of the coexistence of at least two different magmas: a syenitic undersaturated felsic one and a ultramafic/ultrabasic one, and their interaction resulted in the MME and, above all, the NeS-f. While in a late stage of magma cristalization, but still in the plastic state, the dike would be placed, with partial absorption of the rock by the nepheline syenite, resulting in the EMF.

ACCULTURATIVE STRESS AND DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS AMONG KOREAN IMMIGRANT ELDERS RESIDING IN NON-KOREAN ETHNIC ENCLAVES

Rhee, Stephanie Lyu 01 January 2013 (has links)
Few studies have examined the relationships among personal factors, acculturative stress, coping resources, and depression of Korean immigrant elders residing in areas without any Korean ethnic enclave. Based on the stress and coping model and the sociocultural model of stress, coping, and adaptation, this cross-sectional study examined the relationships among acculturative stress, coping, and depression in 111 non-institutionalized Korean immigrant elders aged 60 and older residing in areas without any Korean ethnic enclaves in three neighboring states of Southwestern Ohio, North Central Region of Kentucky, and Southern Indiana. A majority of convenience and snowball sample participated in self-administered mailed surveys, and a remaining few used phone surveys and personal interviews. Multiple regression analyses indicate that social support is the strongest predictor of depression, followed by somatization and acculturative stress. Principal component analysis indicates that the participants appraised limited English proficiency as the most stressful aspect of acculturative stress. Path analyses further reveal that acculturative stress had the largest total effect on depression and partially mediated the effect of the level of acculturation on depression. The results also show that social support had the large direct effect on depression and partially mediated the effect of acculturative stress on depression. Unexpectedly, religiosity was not a predictor of depression and did not have any effect on depression. Interestingly, somatization had the positive direct effect on depression. This study suggests that the level of acculturation, socioeconomic status and social support may influence acculturative stress and depression negatively; however, acculturative stress is the most significant risk factor for depression among the participants, decreasing coping efficacy of social support and increasing somatic symptoms. Implications for future research and practice are examined on social support from family and friends and on acculturative stress. It seems that culturally relevant programs and services are important vehicles through which to enhance personal resources and social support and reduce lingual and cultural barriers among Korean immigrant elders residing in areas without any Korean ethnic enclave.
