O consumo do medicamento ritalina® e a produção do aperfeiçoamento circunstancial

Coelho, Eleonora Bachi January 2016 (has links)
Based on theoretical discussions about medicalization and on Brazilian researches that point out to an increase in the consumption of the psychotropic medication commercially known as Ritalin®, the present work aims to reflect on the role accredited to this drug in the way its consumers comprehend and construct themselves, especially regarding a cultural believe in self-enhancement. The empirical data that support the presented discussion was gathered through interviews conducted with people that have used the medication, and also through an analysis of Ritalin’s® advertising material directed to an audience of specialists. Thus, it aspires to call attention to the importance of researches on pharmaceutical imagination, as regards the existence of speeches that highlight values regarding performance, concentration and control. Finally, it presents usages justifications and practices that engage issues regarding normalization, treatment and self - improvement, and at the same time it problematizes the existence of an enhancement category termed as circumstantial enhancement.

'Human Enhancement Technologies' och dess beröring i VR (Virtual Reality)

Olsen, Jenny, Skoghem, David January 2021 (has links)
This article aims to research how we can design an experience that challenges our ideas about ‘Human Enhancement Technologies’ (Pariseau-Legault et al., 2018) through critical design and VR-technology. This through exploration of our hands physical touch (Puig de la Bellacasa, 2009) in everyday activities and exploring touch in Virtual Reality. This research helped to create a design that aims to change a player's touch in connection with an everyday activity where we through technological modifications give your hands new functionality.

Plant Material Selection and Seed Enhancement Technologies Improve Seed-Based Restoration in Dryland Systems

Sowards, Travis G. 14 December 2023 (has links) (PDF)
The restoration of large-scale heterogeneous landscapes is typically approached using seed-based restoration as a cost-effective means to achieve project goals and objectives. However, seeding is often met with low survival rates primarily driven by low seedling emergence and establishment. This dissertation investigates opportunities to enhance restoration focusing on 1) seed treatments, 2) plant materials, and 3) a synthesis of seeding strategies. • Fungal pathogenesis can cause high seedling mortality. Fungicide seed coatings used in the agriculture industry are novel to wildland restoration. We assess the effect a fungicide seed coating has on the recruitment of Pseudoroegneria spicata seedlings across a broad range of sagebrush-steppe sites. • Sourcing appropriate plant material for restoration seeding is fundamental to long-term restoration success. The Association of Seed Certification Agencies offers a series of certification schemes to facilitate the rapid production, procurement, and distribution of native seeds for restoration. Results from a multi-year study evaluate the recruitment success of three P. spicata germplasms. • The complexities of seed-based restoration are reviewed, exploring the interplay between native plant materials, seed enhancement technologies, and restoration outcomes. This synthesis provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge, research gaps, and avenues for future restoration research.

Assigned Gender Before Birth : A Critical Discourse Analysis of Desires, Identities, and Ideologies in Online Discussions of Non-medical Sex Selection

Birging, Amanda January 2021 (has links)
Human reproduction is increasingly commodified, which paves the way for reproductive enhancement rather than just assistance. Non-medical gender/sex selection is one of the reproductive enhancement services that is offered on the fertility market, and it is a practice that raises severe concerns regarding the social and political impact of biotechnologies. Through Critical Discourse Analysis and Biomedicalization theory, I analyse how non-medical gender/sex selection is legitimised in online forum discussions. I argue that gender/sex selection is legitimized through gender- and family-conservative and neoliberal ideologies, and that gender/sex selection can be understood as a tool to enhance the family, increase privilege, and attain hypernormativity.
