Le but de ce mémoire est d’étudier les origines étymologiques des mots argotiques qui ont commencé à être utilisés pendant le vingtième siècle. 100 mots ont été choisis et présentés selon leurs origines. Les mots ont été choisis dans le Dictionnaire de l’argot et du français populaire. Les langues d’origine les plus représentées parmi ces 100 mots ont été étudiées pour voir s’il y a une raison probable pour laquelle le français a emprunté des mots à ces langues. Nous avons classé la plupart des mots en champs lexicaux pour examiner s’il y a un certain type de mots qui sont empruntés et si les langues différentes contribuent à des champs lexicaux différents. L’étude a montré que le français a emprunté des mots argotiques aux beaucoup de langues différentes pendant le vingtième siècle. L’anglais et l’arabe ont contribué avec le plus grand nombre de mots. Pour ces deux langues et pour la plupart des autres langues de l’étude, nous discutons des raisons possibles pour lesquelles les mots ont été empruntés. / The aim of this essay is to study the etymologic origin of some slang words that began came into usage during the twentieth century. 100 words have been chosen and they are presented according to their origin. The words have been chosen from Le dictionnaire de l’argot et du français populaire. The most frequent languages of origin represented within these 100 words have been studied in order to investigate the possible reasons these words may have been assimilated into the French language. Most of the words were divided into lexical fields to determine if there is a certain type of word that is being borrowed and if different languages contribute to different lexical fields. This study has shown us that many different languages have contributed to the French language; the languages that have contributed the most are English and Arabic. This paper discusses the probable explanations of why the words have been borrowed.

Authors of slave narratives faced expectations beyond those of the authors of most other autobiographical texts. Olaudha Equiano's The Interesting Narrative nonetheless found both considerable success in his lifetime and lasting recognition for its contribution to the abolitionist cause. This essay will look at the relations, ideas and expectations that Equiano had to navigate when writing the book, and whether or not he adapated the text to them. The analysis will make use of Kerry Sinanan's research into slave narratives and abolitionist literature, Vincent Carretta's writings about Equiano and The Interesting Narrative, as well as Sidonie Smith and Julia Watson's theory of autobiographical writing and their schema of autobiographical acts. The Interesting Narrative contains several instances of conflicts between the interests Equiano navigated when writing it, and makes compromises between these interests in order to satisfy the reader, while at the same time resisting sterotypes of Africans held at the time.
