Problems and Solutions for Implementing ERP-Systems in Swedish Wind Power Industry

Bhatti, Fahim Ahmed, Khan, Hamid January 2010 (has links)
Wind power industry has become the world’s fastest growing renewable energy source. A firm’s information requirements can only be understood by examining their Information System (IS) through Organizational, People, Technical and Strategic perspective.  Current study focuses on the value of Information System implementation for Swedish Wind Power Industry (SWPI) that has reached to more than one billion dollars in recent decade. A well-known integrated IS i.e. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) used by Swedish Wind Power Industry (SWPI) for decision making activities is not without its challenges, that consumes a significant portion of their capital and resources for implementation. Exploratory and explanatory research conducted for triangulation, through quantitative and qualitative methods, with empirical data of survey, multiple case studies, interviews and extensive literature review, to highlight the problems and solutions for implementing ERP in SWPI. Several, IS are highlighted with their functionalities and critical success and failure factors. A Model of Knowledge Sharing in ERP Implementation between system users, top management and project team is proposed for critical factors of ERP implementation.

Implementación de un Sistema de Planificación de Recursos Empresariales utilizando la Metodología Lean Office en una empresa de servicios contables / Implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) using Lean Office Methodology in an accounting services company

Guevara Vivanco, Jorge Leonardo 05 May 2020 (has links)
This investigation focuses mainly on the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) using the Lean Office Methodology within a SME’s accounting consultancy. The description of the competitive environment, identification of the problem, implementation of the proposal for improvement and validation of the model were carried out from the second semester of 2017 until the end of the first quarter of 2019. On one hand, the Lean Office philosophy gives us a general outline regarding the culture of continuous improvement based on Lean Manufacturing, which encourages the active and dynamic participation of all those involved in an organization, from the CEO to the person in charge of cleaning, even regardless the size of the company. Additionally, Lean methodology has as its main objective to seek the maximization of value oriented to meet the quality objectives offered to the final client, while minimizing waste through optimization of productive flows. On the other hand, the extracted data and its subsequent analysis correspond to a real case, which includes a Peruvian consulting microenterprise called Equipusoft, which has more than 10 years of experience in accounting, financial and tax advisory. Likewise, to guarantee a 95% confidence in the obtain results, two system simulations were carried out, the first one of the initial diagnosis, while the second describes the situation after the implementation of Lean Office. It is worth mentioning that the Input Analyzer, Arena Simulation and Output Analyzer softwares were used in order to simulate both models. / Trabajo de suficiencia profesional

A Framework to Incorporate Industry 4.0 into SME to Enhance Resource Planning

Ganta, Sathvik January 2020 (has links)
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) have grown steadily in recent years.  SMEs generate 59.7 % of value-added and 65.5 % of employment in the ‘non-financial business economy’ in Sweden. It's important for the success of SMEs to be ready to provide high product availability to customers at minimal operation costs. The challenges faced by SMEs are tougher in global competition. There is a rapid growth in the industrial revolution to deal with the challenges as well as competition. This work mainly focuses on implementing resource planning (RP) and adapting to the latest technologies of Industry 4.0 into SMEs to face the challenges. But incorporating Industry 4.0 in a major struggle in the SMEs.  The thesis provides a view of Resource Planning implementation. The authors describe the resource planning implementation techniques and define the requirements for its successful implementation. Resource Planning (RP) adoption factors have been studied quite extensively over the years. However, this master thesis tries to investigate the less explored area of resource planning. Relatively a smaller amount of research has been conducted, when it comes to implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies especially in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).  Industry 4.0 provides new paradigms for the industrial management of SMEs. Supported by a growing number of new technologies, this concept appears more flexible and less expensive than traditional enterprise information systems. This paper presents a literature review of existing applied research covering different Industry 4.0 issues about SMEs. Furthermore, the analysis is done to understand the correlation between the identified factors of Industry 4.0 technologies. The research findings indicate that the use of IoT and Cloud computing are major advantages for resource planning in an SME. The results from the analysis are presented in a framework designed for the future adaptation of these technologies. Despite the research limitations, the findings show a high advantage. Finally, the author suggests a future scope of research.

Economic advantages of Blockchain technology VS Relational database : An study focusing on economic advantages with Blockchain technology and relational databases

Hedman Surlien, Peter January 2018 (has links)
Many IT-systems are when created not designed to be flexible and dynamic resulting in old and complex systems hard to maintain. Systems usually build their functionality and capability on the data contained in their databases. The database underlines such system, and when data do not correspond between different and synchronizing systems, it is a troublesome debugging process. This is because systems are complex and the software architecture is not always easy to understand. Due to increasing complexity in systems over time, making systems harder to debug and understand, there is a need for a system that decreases debugging costs. Furthermore, result in better transaction costs. This study proposes a system based on blockchain technology to accomplish this.   An ERP system based on blockchain with encrypted transactions was constructed to determine if the proposed system can contribute in better transaction costs. A case study at multiple IT-companies and comparison to an existing ERP system module validated the system. A successful simulation showed that multiple parts could read and append data to an immutable storage system for one truth of data. By all counts, and with proven results, the constructed blockchain solution based on encrypted transactions for an ERP system can reduce debugging costs.   It is also shown that a centralized database structure where external and internal systems can get one truth of data, decreases transaction costs. However, it is the decision makers in companies that need to be convinced for the constructed system to be implemented. A problem is also when modifications to the object type, then historical transactions cannot be changed in an immutable storage solution. Blockchain is still a new technology, and the knowledge of the technology and the evolution of the system determines if the proposed software architecture will result in better transaction costs.

Sistema de optimización del proceso de distribución para reducir los costos de reparto y devoluciones para una empresa distribuidora de suministros de vehículos utilizando geolocalización, servicios web api y notificaciones push / Optimization system of the distribution process to reduce delivery and return costs for a vehicle supply distribution company using geolocation, API web services and PUSH notifications

Requejo Santos, William Robert, Enciso Perez, David 10 December 2021 (has links)
The present work aims to propose to the automotive supplies distributor company, tools that allow optimizing the distribution process, to reduce cost overruns and avoid returns, through proper planning and follow-up of order deliveries. Currently, the company has been facing two major problems: cost overruns in distribution and customer dissatisfaction due to undelivered orders. The latter incurs a reduction in the sale due to returns. In order to analyze and understand the organization's processes, the Zachman framework and the TOGAF methodology have been used, which allow us to identify the processes to be improved, to attack the causes of problems. Then, the success factors of the project were identified, which help to define the success indicators to measure the effectiveness of the proposed solution. Subsequently, the focus was to develop a software architecture analyzing the requirements, restrictions and business rules, prioritizing the most important and transcendent, which were called Architectural Drivers. Likewise, quality attributes of the proposed solution were defined, which will contribute by applying design decisions and styles. On the other hand, design tactics were applied, known for their efficiency in meeting quality attributes. Likewise, a C4 diagram was elaborated, which allows to represent the different levels of abstraction of the software solution at a technical level. Finally, the prototypes of screens were developed, with which the users of the processes in the proposed solution interact. The proposal proposes a substantial reduction in distribution cost overruns and sales returns, such reduction will be analyzed through control panels that will measure the success of the project. / Tesis

Empirical Examination of User Acceptance of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems in the United States

Oldacre, Rohan 01 January 2016 (has links)
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are complex software packages that support an integrated real-time setting among the various business functions in an entire organization. ERP systems improve productivity, but only to the extent that employees accept and use the systems extensively to perform their duties. The leaders of many organizations have not been able to realize the expected benefits because of a lack of user acceptance. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional survey study was to examine the factors that influence user acceptance of ERP systems in the United States. Davis's technology acceptance model was the theoretical foundation used to relate the independent variables (perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) to the dependent variable (user acceptance of ERP systems). The focus of the research questions was on the strength of the relationships between each of the independent variables and user acceptance of ERP systems in the United States. Data were from 97 purposively selected ERP system end users in the United States using the survey instrument based on the technology acceptance model. Regression and correlation analyses revealed a positive relationship between perceived usefulness and user acceptance, but no relationship was found between perceived ease of use and user acceptance. The findings indicated difficulties in using ERP systems for end users in the United States, which stakeholders could rectify to improve productivity in organizations. Positive social change implications include improving the standard of living, increasing the literacy rate, and reducing negative externalities to improve human and social conditions in society.

Johansson, Anton, Paulsson, Emil, Tofftén, Jonathan January 2023 (has links)
Background and problem: Enterprise resource planning systems have historicallymainly been used within large companies. But has recently become increasinglycommon in small- and medium-sized companies as a result of digitization andmarket changes. There have been studies on how a well-implemented and integratedbusiness system increases efficiency within companies. Furthermore, researchersconclude that evaluation of the business system is important to maintain an effectivesystem over time and propose evaluation models for the purpose. On the other hand, there are theoretical knowledge gaps regarding how small- and medium-sizedcompanies in the manufacturing industry can and should carry out evaluations andwhich decision factors are the basis for such a decision. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate whether and how small- andmedium-sized companies evaluate their enterprise resource planning system. Method: The study has a qualitative research method with an abductive researchapproach. The empirical material consists of 10 semi-structured interviews withvarious managers of small- and medium-sized manufacturing companies. The 10 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Conclusion: Formal evaluations using models are not carried out, as evaluationusing models is a complex process that is considered too time-consuming and costlyfor SMEs to undertake. On the other hand, informal evaluations of enterpriseresource planning systems occur to a certain extent.
