Effective Use of MRP-Type Computer Systems to Support manufacturing

Cheng, Patty W. 19 March 1997 (has links)
Within the last 30 years, Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP-type) computer systems have quickly evolved from basic materials requirement planning software to today's enterprise resource planning (ERP) integrated software packages that reside on client/server computer architecture. However, given the magnitude of influence these computer systems encompass, very little research has been conducted to monitor and improve how companies are actually using these MRP, advanced MRP and ERP computer systems. In practical terms, where is the typical manufacturing organization today in terms of MRP systems development? To what extent is software being applied for use in enterprise integration? A survey study of manufacturing companies in Virginia and Tennessee was conducted to evaluate the current use and performance of computer systems to support manufacturing applications. This study explores the reasons why organizations chose to use these systems, the problems and benefits derived from the MRP/ERP systems, and the characteristics of the types of companies that have benefited from the use of MRP-type systems. The survey participants evaluated the performance of their manufacturing or enterprise planning systems on the basis of data accuracy, customer satisfaction, user satisfaction, systems effectiveness, convenience, information relevance, and software reliability. Furthermore, success factors associated with organizational performance were tested and evaluated. The correlation between perceived performance was tested against the influence of upper management support, the level of emphasis on training, sources of technical expertise, and organizational experience with MRP-type systems. / Master of Science

Enterprise Resource Planning Systems Introduction and Internal Auditing Legitimacy: An Institutional Analysis

Elbardan, H., Ali, M., Ghoneim, Ahmad January 2016 (has links)
No / In this article, the authors examine how the internal audit function maintains its legitimacy when enterprise resource planning systems are introduced. This work centers on an in-depth case study of a multinational bank and finds that enterprise resource planning systems impose an institutional logic of control based on interlinked assumptions. These assumptions motivate changes in the practice and structure of the internal audit function to become an integrated and comprehensive function to maintain its legitimacy.

Exploring the acceptance of enterprise resource planning systems by small manufacturing enterprises

Adam, Rubina 11 1900 (has links)
The use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems by small enterprises is proliferating. Traditionally used by large enterprises, ERP systems are now considered important enterprise management aids, which may contribute to the sustainability and growth of small enterprises. Although varying acceptance factors may impact on the acceptance of ERP systems, there is no consolidated list of ERP system acceptance factors specific to small enterprises. In this study, the strategic, business, technical and human factors that influence the acceptance of ERP systems in small manufacturing enterprises in South Africa is presented. These influencing factors may guide future initiatives aiming to ensure the acceptance of ERP systems by small manufacturing enterprise. A combined quantitative and qualitative data analysis approach was used as an analytical lens to interpret responses gathered from small manufacturing enterprises. Recommendations are made for future research on ERP system acceptance and adoption within the broader spectrum of small enterprises. / Information Systems / M. Sc. (Information Systems)

Automatisierungsansätze zur Unterstützung der ERP-Kategorienkonfiguration für KMU

Wölfel, Klaus 29 April 2016 (has links) (PDF)

The use of Mobile and Wireless Information Technologies (MWIT) is outstandingly fast in every country of the world, from mobile phones, smartphones, laptops or tablets connected through wireless networks. The use of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is completely spread among organizations, being a much studied topic since the late 90s. The use of MWIT with ERP systems is something that, even being used quite often in companies, has not been studied in academic field, and for that this paper attempts to identify how ERP systems have been used in an enterprise mobility perspective and what are the results of this use for the adopters. This paper is an exploratory research and is divided in three parts, the first one a survey with suppliers of ERP systems, the second a study on what features of ERP with mobility are used in three companies and to finish, a multiple study case with three companies users of ERP with mobility. The results show that only 34% of the surveyed ERP systems suppliers have mobile applications for their ERP. In addition, most applications (53%) is focused on sales, which reflects on the researched companies that only use sales support applications. Finally, it is shown that, in the studied companies, the use of ERP with mobility has increased productivity and efficiency, reduced costs, increased surveillance and control over employees and improved users life quality. It was also discovered that some research proposals could not be confirmed by the use of ERP with mobility, including data overload, improvement in relationship with customers and suppliers, improvement in organizational communication and profit increase.

This study aimed to identify which factors are internal to organizations that contribute to the adoption of technological innovation defined by business management system (ERP). The study model was developed based on the Theory of Diffusion of Innovation (Rogers, 1995) and in studies by Perez (2006). The research, in a quantitative approach, sought also to identify the main results obtained on the basis of this adoption. The survey data were collected with an electronic questionnaire survey study on internet users and was answered by the ERP. It was used for data analysis, techniques of Factor Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis to verify the interrelationship between the identified factors. The research results obtained with the sample showed that the internal factors included the importance of the Social System of Procedure, the Leader Attorney or Agent of Change Readiness and Environment Introduction to Internal Innovation can directly influence the adoption of a technological innovation with ERP. In the case of the sample, the decision by the Innovation and Organizational Structure did not influence significantly the adoption of the system. The survey also confirmed that the adoption of ERP innovation directly influence the creation of new services, processes and the decision-making of users. Constraints and implications of the study are discussed and suggestions for future research are presented.

Integrated Systems Management, known as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), are developed and maintained by IFES (Federal Institutions of Higher Education) for the performance of activities that concern them, in addition, its scope allows obtaining management information becoming valuable strategic resource. Recent guidelines of the supervisory bodies and government control, aimed at increasing efficiency, higher productivity of public administration, and cost reduction have led IFES to adopt IT governance policies. ERP systems are usually very comprehensive and expensive, so their costs should be measured, not only acquisition costs, but mainly maintenance and support costs. In this regard, in order to determine the cost elements to measure the costs of maintenance and support in managing ERP systems, there was motivation for this research on the TCO methodology (Total Cost of Ownership) supported by ITIL framework processes (Information Technology Infrastructure Library). This work, descriptive, identified and listed from the literature, the most obvious cost elements in TCO and ITIL. Then a web questionnaire was administered, along with experts in ERP systems management of IFES, aiming to map their perception of relevance of these cost factors listed in the survey. The results show the cost elements ordered by relevance and frequency that the maintenance and ERP systems support and the expected contribution is to facilitate the measurement of these costs.
