Přesčasová práce a nároky z ní vyplývající / Overtimes and resulting entitlementsChalupa, Jakub January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of overtime work and consequent entitlements for employees. It also focuses on the working hours institute in general, as the basis for determining overtime. It deals not only with the limits and conditions of overtime work, but also with overtime in different working hours regimes as well as overtime work of specific groups of employees. The aim of the thesis is to summarize the Czech legislation of the overtime institute, while evaluating the jurisprudence dealing with this issue. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter outlines the historical development not only of overtime work itself, but also of working hours as an institute directly related to overtime. In view of the Czech Republic's membership in the European Union, there can not be omitted the view of overtime work in terms of EU legislation, where Directive 2003/88 / EC is the key rule governing working hours and overtime. The second chapter deals with the working hours institute and describes the different ways of its layout. It also summarizes night work and on-call time, the legal regulations of which make it problematic, and employees often come to a dispute with employer about the uncertainty of remuneration. The third chapter deals with the overtime work itself as the...

Experiments on Redistribution, Trust, and EntitlementsHall, Daniel T, Cox, James C 15 May 2010 (has links)
This dissertation comprises three essays. The unifying theme is experiments used as the empirical methodology. Each essay is an independent study, but aspects of behavior related to cooperation, trust, and entitlement are present in each essay.
The first essay looks at the efficiency-equality tradeoff of increasing redistribution in a small group setting. Subjects generate a stronger sense of entitlement to their labor earnings by performing a real effort task. Subjects must trust other members of their group to work in order to keep labor a profitable activity under higher levels of redistribution. We find a significant efficiency-equality tradeoff explained by lowered work incentives. Labor supply decisions also show strategic and cooperative behavior similar to behavior found in public goods experiments. The efficiency-equality tradeoff calls for a reconsideration of increasing dependence on the public sector for charity provision.
The second essay investigates how the application of a role-reversal protocol affects behavior in cooperative games. Subjects play all possible player roles in the game under a role-reversal protocol. We test if behavior results from a two-role trust game are robust to applying a role-reversal protocol. We find that paying subjects for one role leads to no significant role-reversal effect whereas previous studies paying for both roles find reductions in generosity in both roles.
The third essay is co-authored with Dr. James C. Cox. We test for differences in trust-related behavior under private and common property environments. Subjects participate in payoff equivalent 2-person Private Property Trust Game or Common Property Trust Game. We strengthen property right entitlements by asking subjects perform a real effort task to earn their private or common property endowments. Strengthening entitlements leads to behavioral differences in the two trust games not previously found. We find second mover generosity in response to first mover decisions is lower in the Common Property Trust Game. Second movers are relatively less generous because first movers overturn the status quo opportunity set which is most generous and signals “full trust.” Many first movers anticipate this and respond optimally by choosing extremes which signal “full trust” or “no trust” in the game.

Frequently, estimates to measure food insecurity are made based on the definition of poverty lines or indigence, associating the degree of lack of food considering the household productivity, and having in mind that poor families (low income) live in a condition of nutrition insecurity. However, it is possible to find household units with income considered below the poverty line and that live in a nutritional stability, as well as those ones with income above poverty line that have quantitative food restriction. The theoretical exercise developed by Amartya Sen encloses a series of concepts which allows the analysis of social reality, like food insecurity in Rio Grande do Sul, in a multidimensional way, including quantitative analysis and venturing beyond them. One of these concepts which can help the understanding of those difficulties of reaching dignified access to adequate nutritional levels, quantitatively and qualitatively, is the notion of entitlements, terminology which was originally developed by Sen to deal with the problem of hunger in Asia and Africa. By means of the capability approach, the objective of this work is to analyze the entitlements which are intertwined with food insecurity in Rio Grande do Sul, and evaluate the impacts of this situation to expand the condition of rural families in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The results of this analysis which was performed through contingency coefficient, chi-square tests and a probit regression model, which allow to differentiate between rural and urban spaces in Rio Grande do Sul, show clearly the necessity of a multidimensional treatment in the Gaucho State, suggesting an inclusion of new concepts which allow better characterize the difficulties of access to adequate alimentation, proposing an alternative to traditional perspective.

Previous issue date: 2011-09-24 / This paper analyzes the social security systems adopted by Brazil and Argentina, highlighting the common and differing aspects in different historic periods as well as their social repercussions. It highlights that the social security programs are, together with social assistance and healthcare, the most important forms of protection against social risks. As State policy, social security cannot be examined separately from their political and economic contexts, and although they are designed to assure indispensable means for sustenance for beneficiaries who are physically incapacitated, elderly, retired, unemployed, have family responsibilities, are jailed, or require assistance because of the death of the person on whom they were economically dependent, the policies suffer the impacts of neoliberal policies that are in ascension in Brazil and Argentina. In this light, we can highlight that the history of social security is marked by the contradictions of the capitalist system / O presente trabalho aborda os regimes de Previdência social, adotados no Brasil e na Argentina, destacando aspectos comuns e divergentes nos diferentes períodos históricos bem como suas repercussões sociais.

Cognitive Ability and In-group Bias: An Experimental StudyPaetzel, Fabian, Sausgruber, Rupert 08 1900 (has links) (PDF)
We study the role of performance differences in a task requiring cognitive effort on in-group bias. We show that the in-group bias is strong in groups consisting of high-performing members, and it is weak in low-performing groups. This holds although high-performing subjects exhibit no in-group bias as members of minimal groups, whereas low-performing subjects strongly do. We also observe instances of low-performing subjects punishing the in-group favoritism of low-performing peers. The same does not occur in high-performing or minimal groups where subjects generally accept that decisions are in-group biased. / Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Series

Ice on midsummersday : -A qualtitative study on national, regional and local level of the extreme weather years and following harvest failure in 1867-68 Sweden, with focus on Gävleborgs County.Ellen, Lindblom January 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on two extreme weather years in 1867-1868 that led to crop failure and subsistence crisis in parts of Sweden. Specifically it focus on Gävleborgs County and one parish, Hanebo Parish, in south west Hälsingland. The study presents contemporary examples from original sources on the national, regional and local level and one secondary source. With a qualitative approach, the study investigates the social impacts of sudden extreme weather and following harvest failure and assess signs of a possible subsistence crisis on regional and local level in the years of 1867-68. The empirics are analyzed trough demographic methodology often used to evaluate ”famine-like” situations, theories on famine and its causes and the three concepts: vulnerability, resilience and exchange entitlement. The result of the study shows a subsistence crisis in Gävleborg county and Hanebo Parish, in the years of 1867-68. These indications included poor harvest, demographic impact on parochial level and visible mitigating strategies for coping with the situation. Social hierarchies which are making impact on attitudes within the contemporary context of crisis are also discovered in the empiric material. The study also shows that state incentives and publically organised incentives can mitigate disaster both over short and long term.

Examining Small Millet-Based Food and Livelihood Security: A case study of semi-arid mountain communities in NepalDukpa, Rinchu Doma 17 January 2013 (has links)
The majority of households in the hill regions of Nepal are net consumers of their agricultural produce. The harsh geographical topography, low landholdings and uncertain weather make households in the hills more susceptible to food insecurity. This research examines the role of small millets in achieving food and livelihood security for the people of Dhikur Pokhari VDC in Nepal. As a project based on qualitative research, data was collected through semi-structured interviews, observations and focus group discussions. In addition, market and value chain analysis for small millets was conducted. The findings show that small millets have a significant role in ensuring food security, particularly for the marginalized households. The findings also show that, through their exchange properties, small millets contributed towards generating household livelihoods. Further, findings revealed the existing formal and informal markets for small millets and showed a direct correlation between small millets-based market, and food and livelihood security for the people of Dhikur Pokhari VDC.
