Technical-operational evaluations in water treatment stations of the cities of the regions east and the lakes of Rio de Janeiro State with proposals of improvements for future implantation of environmental management system based in norms ISO 14.000.

José Rogério da Conceição Ramos 19 March 2008 (has links)
In Water Resources Management the questions related with environmental impact caused by Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) cannot be neglected, and they must be evaluated in every aspect. In this work it was evaluated the technical and operational conditions and the management of six small Water Treatment Plants located on the regions East and the Lakes of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The result presents data on treated water production, entered water losses caused by filter cleaning and decantors discharges, and not-entered losses, energy and chemical products expenses, residual production and its final destination, also the survey of operational staff capacitation compared to the literature values to the considered efficient WTPs. From the discussion of the results we conclude that corrections on the operation and maintenance of the WTPs are necessary, and a management of the raw and treated water quality, also we recommend to the sanitation service company to improve effectively in a future implantation a system of ambient management in each unit, based on ISO 14.000.

Att kommunicera miljöarbete : En fallstudie i miljökommunikation på två Svanenmärkta hotell / To Communicate Environmental Work : A Case Study of Two Eco-Labeled Hotels

Dernelid, Yasmine January 2011 (has links)

The environmental certification ISO 14001 - A necessary pain. : A qualitative study on the perceived experiences for small and medium-sized enterprises after the last update of ISO 14001 in 2015.

Axelsson, Anton, Melkersson, Victor January 2017 (has links)
Background:Implementing sustainability management tools for SMEs has been problematic according to earlier studies. Environmental Managemt System (EMS) is a popular tool where many Swedish SMEs is certified to the EMS-standard ISO 14001. The update of the standard ISO 14001:2015 included several new criteria for organizations to fulfill where they have a transition period of three years to update their certification. It is therefore relevant to study Swedish SMEs who recently updated their certification to let their own experiences come through. Purpose: This study aims to contribute with knowledge to how SMEs experience drivers, barriers and practical implications connected to the implementation of ISO 14001. Method: A qualitative multiple case study on two SMEs has been conducted with focus on the cases’ subjective perceptions. Document studies and interviews will provide a hermeneutic narrative interpretation where each case is presented as a narrative. Conclusion: Customer demands are according to the study the most significant driver for these SMEs to implements ISO 14001. The implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 appears to be a challenge caused by internal resistance and the fact that the standard is not optimal for the structure of SMEs. We have not found indications that ISO 14001:2015 helps SMEs to tackle this problem. However, many positive implications have been found, although it is disputable if the positive aspects are larger than the barriers. As the customer demands are increasing, SMEs appear to have little to say which leads to the conclusion that ISO 14001 can be perceived y SMEs as a necessary pain.

The Barriers for Voluntary Environmental Management Systems—The Case of EMAS in Hospitals

Seifert, Christin 11 June 2018 (has links)
The adoption of formal environmental management systems (EMS) according to EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) represents a voluntary approach that aims to increase corporate environmental performance. Though EMAS can offer several advantages for organizations, registration numbers are falling. In the hospital sector, the dissemination of EMAS is low. The question arises as to what hinders hospitals when planning, implementing, and maintaining such voluntary environmental management initiatives. The results from interviews with environmental managers in EMAS registered hospitals reveal problems such as high initial effort for creation of the required documents, or lacking knowledge and staff awareness. The barriers are presented in a model synthesizing the problems chronologically on the organizational, group, and individual level. The challenges for the adoption of EMAS as a voluntary environmental management approach in hospitals are discussed. This paper contributes by creating an understanding of the barriers organizations might face when implementing an EMS. Thus, measures to actively manage and overcome barriers can be developed by organizations, consultants, reviewers, policy makers, and researchers.
