For a better day : A study on the environmental motives of Swedish micro, small- and medium-sized fashion companiesNorling, Elias, Karlsson, Tobias January 2021 (has links)
Background: The fashion industry has been extensively regarded as one of the most environmentally harmful industries. There is an increasing market for fast fashion and short lifespan, resulting in the fact that environmental impact is a growing concern. Micro, small- and medium-sized enterprises currently stand for 70% of the global pollution. Further, in Sweden, this category is not as regulated as large companies regarding environmental sustainability activities. Problem: With the fashion industry being a major factor for global environmental impact, discussions regarding the sector have emerged. Attention on companies’ environmental sustainability has increased in past years and more companies have adopted new operations. Although studies regarding motives have been done in other countries, generalization cannot be made across different nationalities, sizes and sectors. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of motives to adopt environmental sustainability within micro, small- and medium-sized businesses in the Swedish fashion industry. It aims at using previously found theories and findings to explore and create an overview of company motivations. Method: This research was performed by a qualitative research design and 6 semi-structured interviews were conducted. Results: The findings present the influence of several different motives. Among those were ethics and societal pressure more common than financial performance, competitiveness and brand image. There are different motives to engage in environmental operations. The ones found and presented in the theoretical summary all seemed to have a significance to some degree to the various interviewed companies.

Previous issue date: 2009-12-02 / Transformations of the XXI century forced governments and entrepreneurs to make
revisions and reconfigurations of institutions and agency of service, changing the
concepts of individuals and the companies themselves, for the administration and
business management. Accordingly, this work aimed to propose the implementation
of an Integrated System of Management for the Industry of Ingredient
Pharmaceutical Active, certificate with Good Manufacturing Practice, centralized on
quality management systems, environment, social responsibility and health and
safety at work, using the standards as guidelines NBR ISO 9001:2000, ISO
14001:2004 NBR, NBR 16001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. The work included a
literature review of standards and systems of administrations mentioned uses and
experiences, practices with the standards applied to industry. The combination of
these items revealed the similarities between the rules, and also to develop a
framework for the implementation of GIS in sequential steps with the integration of all
standards. It was concluded at the end of work on the feasibility of implementing the
GIS in Petrochemicals Pharmaceutical Industries and the interrelationship between
the standards studied. / As transformações do século XXI obrigaram governantes e empresários a fazerem
revisões e reconfigurações das instituições e dos órgãos prestadores de serviços,
alterando os conceitos dos indivíduos e das próprias empresas, em relação à
administração e a gestão empresarial.
ISO 9001:2000, NBR ISO 14001:2004, NBR 16001:2004 e OHSAS 18001:2007. O
