The social wasps are of great importance in forest ecosystems for their ecological role in regulating the population of other insects. Although many studies on diversity are being published in recent years, there are still many gaps in the Brazilian territory, highlighting the social wasps communities associated with forest canopies that are still largely unexplored. “Urban green areas” or Novel ecosystems are received attention in recent years due to its role of "refuges" for biodiversity. This study aimed mainly at the checklist of species of social wasps in an urban fragment, based on the wealth found was studied seasonality of the spatial distribution of wasps during the seasons, as well as create intersecting networks for the understanding of preferences nesting in man-made substrates and plants. For the study of diversity and stratification, are carried out for 24 months monthly collections using the methods of Active Search, Searching for Nests and Attractive Trap, and for creation of interaction networks were performed 43 months of monthly sampling methodology used Search for Nests. Were found 36 species of wasp of 10 genera, the wealth found is the tenth largest work of the checklist in Brazil and the fifth in the state of Minas Gerais, no method was used to capture covers all species of wasps, shown the need for a consortium of methods. The stratification showed a variation throughout the seasons of the year, showing that the wasps use the canopy layer in the dry season and undergrowth in the rainy season, collecting exclusive species for each stratum, with six exclusive for canopy and two for undergrowth. The interaction network harbored 23 species of social wasps, 35 species of plants and seven man-made substrates. In both, systems asymmetry was observed with a large number of species of wasps, plants and man-made substrates. In general appearance, most wasps had low amplitude site for nesting, founding in two to four species of plants/substrates. The data suggest that differences in environmental structural complexity directly influence the structure of the network of interaction between social wasps and substrates for nesting. The results contribute to increased knowledge about the wealth of social wasps in the southeast region and show the vertical foraging capacity of social wasps according to the season in Novel ecosystems environments.

Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-22T22:12:35Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Livia Rodrigues da Silva.pdf: 848999 bytes, checksum: 96390303e0c77c713ebc61355dffd413 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-03-27 / FAPEAM - Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Amazonas / Several factors may influence the abundance and density of primate species, mainly those related to forest structure, such as the availability of resources. This study aimed to determine the abundance and density of primate species and their relationships with environmental characteristics and seasonality at Fazenda Experimental da UFAM, Central Amazonia. Diurnal censuses were conducted on 27 1-km transects between November 2011 and October 2012. Data from five components of forest structure were collected in this study: (1) number of trees, (2) number of palms, (3) canopy opening, (4) vertical stratification and (5) fruit availability, measured in 5 plots of 100 m2 located in each transect. We detected seven primate species in 189 km traveled. The estimated density of FAEXP groups were considered intermediate (4.9 groups per km2) than the areas studied and relatively close to the study area. Sighting rates observed in the present study were similar to other areas in the Amazon. Sapajus apella showed the highest rates of sighting and density. The forest structure affected the abundance of two species: Sapajus apella showed a positive association with fruit availability and negatively with the number of palm trees, while Chiropotes chiropotes showed negative relationship with stratification and positively with the number of palm trees. There was no seasonal variation in species abundance, and marginally significant for Pithecia pithecia. The variability on the density of primates found at the study site can be linked to the species biological characteristics, mainly related to the use of food resources.

A SUCESSÃO SECUNDÁRIA NA FLORESTA ESTACIONAL SUBTROPICAL DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRASIL / SECONDARY SUCCESSION IN SUBTROPICAL SEASONAL FOREST IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRAZIL

Kilca, Ricardo de Vargas 28 February 2014 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The subtropical seasonal forests located on the brazilian southern plateau (BSP) of Rio Grande do Sul state (Brazil) represent an extension from the Misiones province flora, considered one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world. BSP represents the largest forested areas of the state, most of the them are secondary forests, originate from agricultural abandonment areas. In many cases, these forests are source of shelter and food for livestock. Given the importance of the BSP for biodiversity conservation and maintenance of ecological services is little knowledge how these forests regenerate after impact. This doctoral thesis has been organized into four chapters, the first three describe and evaluate the secondary succession in soils and forest vegetation after abandonment of agricultural activities. Thirtyfive preserved forests at different ages (5 to> 100 years) with low environmental variability were sampled with standardized inventory methodology, for analyzes of the soil and vegetation attributes. Specifically, the questions that this study sought to answer were: 1) how soil attributes to change (11 chemical and three texture) along a forest succession and what are the best indicators of change, 2) are linear floristic changes along succession and what floristic similaririty between ages, chronosequence, successional stages and stages of development of the forests? 3) how structural attributes of vegetation (13 attributes) changes along a chronosequences and what the best indicators of changes? The results showed that the chemical properties of soil and structure vegetation changed significantly and not predictable for a single attribute along chronosequences forests. Only discriminant analysis aproach was possible to characterize the ages of forest using a group of soil and structure attibutes. The floristic composition also varied substantially where few species can be listed as indicators of a particular stage of development. Floristic patterns emerged only when pooled data from aged forests. The last chapter evaluated the effect of cattle grazing in 35 forests with different ages (5 to > 100 years) and three levels of impact (forests with current impact of cattle grazing, forests excluding grazing 10 years ago and forests without cattle grazing). Standardized inventory in all these forests were employed for analysis of soil and vegetation in order to compare and evaluate the effect and magnitude of the impact of grazing on forest ecosystem. The most adverse effect ocurred in the soil (chemical and texture) than in the floristic composition and structure of vegetation. However, the impact of grazing on soil and tree component can be recovered in 10 years after sttoped the activity in forest ecosystems. These results are important to impact monitoring, restoration and sustainable management projects in the largest and most endangered ecological corridor in Rio Grande do Sul State.
