Negotiating the Double Mandate: Mapping Ethical Conflict Experienced by Practicing Educational Leaders

McGee, Jeffrey 04 June 2013 (has links)
The qualitative approach used in this study captured and described ethical conflict experienced by a sample of practicing educational leaders. Narrative inquiry data were collected from 42 former and current doctoral students and additional data were captured through follow-up interviews with selected participants. The major findings of the study suggest that ethical conflict is inherent in the practice of educational leadership. Such conflict is most often experienced in relation to colleagues when the ethics of justice and care collide. Leaders’ ability to mitigate conflict that is often the result of institutional and external factors is promoted by varied background and contextual experiences. Educational leaders also felt that ethics and ethical competence is essential to the role of educational leader and that pre- and in-service preparation is important.

Anàlisi dels conflictes ètics en la pràctica professional de l’educació social. Aproximació a una ètica aplicada

Vilar Martín, Jesús 16 February 2011 (has links)
This thesis is presented as a compilation of articles that deal with the themes values and applied ethics in social education. The sense of applied ethics in the world of professions is hereby studied in depth and so is the convenience of studying the reasons that create a need to talk about applied ethics in social education. Next, we present an analysis of the steps that this profession has taken in the construction of an orientation system for the treatment of moral issues arisen out of the professional practice, connected to the process of self-identity construction and to the elements that show difficulties to the development of this ethics-based system. Finally, several options based on the hermeneutic critics are hereby proposed in order to foster this ethics-based system.

Böneutrop- på vilkas villkor? : En moralfilosofisk studie om en etisk värdekonflikt kring individens religionspraktik i det svenska samhället / Call to prayer- on whose terms? : A moral-philosophical study of an ethical value conflict around the individual's religious practice in Swedish society.

Blom, Niklas January 2022 (has links)
This study examines a type of moral conflict, a conflict of values. This through the method qualitative text analysis. To gain an understanding of this problem, insight into previous research is required. Previous research mainly deals with the issue of religion in the public sphere, including literature that concerns research fields on ethical moral philosophy and sociology. Therefore, to obtain in whose conditions are prioritized according to the public Islamic call to prayer in Sweden. Initially, the Declaration of Human Freedoms and Rights is presented, whereupon the question of refrain religious content is of interest. Hence, examine the tolerance and intolerance according to whose practice might contain limits. By starting from two selected theorists with different backgrounds, whereupon their research areas are separated. Examine their positions on the issue of moral value conflict. One of them has conducted social science research and the other is better known as a religious critic and neuroscientist. Through their theory formation, create an idea of how this conflict of values can be understood and interpreted. The public Islamic call to prayer will remain as the main theme of this study, which corresponds as the result of this study. The conclusion is clearly demonstrating various standpoints in this moral dilemma, different aspects are truly extensive. During investigation of different point of views, the purpose remains to state alternative explanations of understanding, and how to interpret the main conflict of value. A majority group in the society whose terms are privileged compared to a non-majority group. Different positions are clear in the result, whereupon the question of allowing public Islamic call to prayer, can thus be interpreted in different ways. Faiths, different beliefs, religion and culture, are numerous variables which had been studied in more detail to then be discussed in relation to the main question and the purpose, a moral conflict of value.

Women's health care in American Catholic hospitals : a proposal for navigating ethical conflicts in accessing reproductive health care

O'Grady, Taylor Jacob January 2018 (has links)
The Catholic Church is one of the largest providers of medical care in the US, with 1 in 6 acute-care beds residing in a Catholic hospital. One third of these hospitals are in rural or underserved areas in the US, and advocacy for the vulnerable is a central platform of the Catholic Healthcare Association. Despite this, the Church has been under attack for allegedly putting women at risk of injury or death due to the care restrictions concerning reproductive health stipulated in the Ethical and Religious Directives (ERDs). Additionally, scholars are questioning the distinctiveness of the Catholic healthcare mission in practice, pointing to the increased homogenization of Catholic and non-Catholic hospitals. For these reasons, it is necessary to assess if and how women are being harmed in Catholic hospitals and, if there is harm being done, if there is a way to prevent these harms while preserving the Catholic Social Tradition in medicine. In carrying out this assessment, I read the current literature closely to explore both the origins and the practical consequences of these ethical conflicts. Subsequently, I use Chris Durante's "pragmatic perspectivism" to formulate a proposal that considers both Catholic medical ethics and secular medical ethics on the same plane. The proposal suggests the adoption of an alternative and complementary lens for Catholic health care. Using this framework would allow the Church to pursue its health care mission in a fuller sense, unencumbered by the inertia of the medical industry towards homogenization due to legal and economic pressures. It also provides the potential for Catholics to more easily receive Catholic care in all hospitals, not just those under Catholic sponsorship. Importantly, it would also prevent any American woman from being practically forced to receive Catholic care, circumventing many of the ethical conflicts present in the current system.
