[en] EVALUATION OF THE GAS LOAD INFLUENCE ON AN AUTOMOTIVE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO DA INFLUÊNCIA DA CARGA DE GÁS EM UM SISTEMA DE CONDICIONAMENTO DE AR AUTOMOTIVO

RAFAEL PRUDENCIO SACSA DIAZ 07 July 2003 (has links)
[en] The modern automotive technology reaches considerable progress s in the mechanical aspect as in the functional, with these technological advances, the biggest progress was made in the structure of the automobiles and in the air conditioning systems. Considering the importance of the use of refrigerant, the present work is developed, because the refrigerant gas became a great importance ambient subject for its paper in the ozone layer destruction. An experimental bench was constructed; it consists of two isolated chambers, where equipment, instruments, devices of measurement and thermal load generation were installed. After that, an automotive air conditioner was mounted, made up of original components from an automobile air conditioning system to simulate operation, with the purpose to evaluate the operation parameters affected when using different refrigerant loads. Tests with constant temperature and humidity in the simulated automotive chamber (1) for variations of chamber (2) temperature, of mass outflow in the system and variations of torque and speed in the motor-compressor system were performed with different refrigerating amounts creating situations of insufficient load, adequate load and over load. For the chambers thermal load controlling, power controlling and appropriate software were used. The equipment operational parameters had been gotten and filed by means of an automatic data acquisition system. The experimental results had shown the real behavior of the refrigeration cycle, the pressure drop in the discharge and suction lines, as well as in the condenser and the evaporator. Also the refrigerant sub-cooling in the exit of the condenser, the gas overheating in the suction, the polytrophic trend instead of the ideal cycle isentropic process was observed. This divergence from the ideal cycle makes the discharge compressor temperature (T2) was higher. The refrigerant gas charge influences the performance of an air conditioning system and the present work results agreed well with the theoretical expectations for the considered problem.

Filling flows induced by a convector in a room

Przydrozna, Aleksandra Anna January 2018 (has links)
Over the last two centuries, there has been a continual evolution of how occupied rooms are heated, with inventors competing to design new heating devices. In particular, there is a wide range of convector types, which vary in shape, size, design, material, operating medium and application. With approximately 190 million convectors installed in the UK alone, the question arises regarding the dependencies on the efficiency of heat distribution through convector-induced filling flows. A standard approach to evaluate convector performance is based on the convector strength only, the implication being the stronger the convector the better the performance. This work has gone beyond the limits of a stereotypical assessment in pursuit of answers regarding the physics of convector-induced filling and a new objective method to evaluate the efficiency of this transient process. The ultimate goal has been to provide a deep understanding of filling and stratification induced by a convector, in order to heat rooms rapidly and effectively. An experimental facility has been designed that approximates dynamic similarity between the experimental set-up and a real-life room with a convector. In the experiments, a rectangular sectioned water tank represents a room and a saline source rectangular sectioned panel with sintered side walls provides a convector representation. Experiments have been performed in water with a saline solution to ensure high Rayleigh numbers. Diagnostic techniques involve a combination of a shadowgraph method, a dye-attenuation method, direct salinity measurements and a new application of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Interesting insight into convector-induced buoyancy-driven flows has been gained. As a result, new guidelines aimed at heating rooms more rapidly and effectively have been proposed. The key outcome that can be immediately applied is that, for a given convector strength, heat distribution with height can be improved by adjusting the convector position. For instance, faster filling leading to more uniform heat distribution occurs in rooms with convectors detached from side walls, due to large-scale mixing flows in the early period of filling. Also shorter convectors relative to the room height, positioned close to the floor level, promote faster and more uniform filling. An attempt to describe the transient filling has been made and to do so statistical methods, application specific, have been developed. As a result, the empirical equations describing both the filling rates in different stages of filling and the development of stratification have been derived, which rank the governing parameters, based on their importance, as either dominant or subordinate. Two dominant parameters governing filling flows are the non-dimensional accumulation parameter B and the Rayleigh number ΔRa, which are related to the convector strength. The impact of these two parameters is constant throughout the process. The parameters accounting for the system geometry and filling time (T) are subordinate parameters. Their impact, visible in the early period, decreases as filling continues.

Étude expérimentale et modélisation numérique d'un système de climatisation multi-évaporateurs pour véhicule électrifié / Experimental study and numerical modeling of a multi evaporator air conditionning system for electrified vehicle

Gillet, Thomas 22 June 2018 (has links)
With the arrival of plug-in hybrid and fully electrified vehicles, the air-conditioning system has to be reconsidered. Battery cooling management system and high level of comfort for passengers make the single evaporator air-conditioning system a multi-evaporator one. In a multi-evaporator air-conditioning system, evaporating pressures are equal in each evaporator so that evaporators are coupled dynamically. However, the demand in cooling capacity and temperature target can vary from each other. For an operating point with a first evaporator working at high load and a second at low partial load, thermal interaction can occur from the superheated refrigerant coming from a first evaporator to the outlet of a second evaporator. This phenomenon makes the second evaporator sleeping since its expansion valve bulb misreads the superheat and closes. Furthermore, sleeping evaporator looks like an extreme case of refrigerant maldistribution in the evaporator. Refrigerant maldistribution is then investigated to show some drawbacks and advantages multi-evaporator air-conditioning systems (MEAC) have to face or can benefit by comparing two types of expansion valve: thermostatic and electronic ones. In this paper, sleeping evaporator and refrigerant maldistribution phenomena are experimentally investigated in order to propose in the future a robust control of an automotive MEAC. A test bench was built to compare two types of expansion valves (thermostatic/electronic) and study their behaviours in steady and transient state to tackle sleeping evaporators and benefit from refrigerant maldistribution. An automotive multi-evaporator air conditioning system, which is composed of two evaporators and a secondary fluid cooler, was modeled using the LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim® 1D software. The present study focuses on understanding the dynamic coupling of the several loop components such as the three evaporators having different cooling capacities. This kind of multi-evaporator air-conditioning system has a number of technological barriers that must be overcome. Understanding the behavior of their respective expansion devices and the choice of these latter is also essential to control properly the transient phase and ensure an optimal operation of the air-conditioning system. In order to study the behavior of the loop, step disturbances were simulated on an operating point at medium and high load. The impact of these disturbances on the stability of the supplied cooled air temperature is analyzed for two types of expansion valve. Initial results show that the thermostatic expansion valves can cause instabilities. Furthermore, the electronic expansion valves have to be regulated with an advanced control in order to use their full potential and to try to achieve desired results.

Évaluation expérimentale et par simulation des performances thermiques de techniques passives appliquées aux toitures pour le rafraîchissement des bâtiments en climat chaud / Thermal and energy performance assessment of some passive cooling techniques in the building under a hot and semi-arid climate

Kachkouch, Salah 14 December 2018 (has links)
The building is one of the most energy-consuming and CO2-producing sectors in the world. Nowadays, this sector accounts for 33% of total energy consumption in Morocco. The new thermal regulation in Morocco aims to introduce eco-energy practices in this sector to reduce this consumption. Indeed, in the Mediterranean region, building architecture has a major impact on its energy and thermal performance. In addition, the integration of passive techniques and the use of local materials could significantly reduce energy consumption in the building sector. In this context where this thesis is located and whose objective is to evaluate the cooling capacity of some passive techniques for the solar protection of roofs and to show the importance of the use of local natural materials in the hot and semi-arid climate of Marrakech. Indeed, three passive cooling techniques are tested in real conditions in the Marrakech region. Passive techniques, namely white paint, shading and thermal insulation, are applied to the roofs of three outside test cells. The thermal performances of these techniques are evaluated simultaneously via a 29-day summer monitoring of four identical test cells, including a bare roof reference test cell (without treatment). Small scale test cells do not represent real buildings where an in-depth study can be conducted. To remedy this, we built a single-zone building that represents a classroom in rural region in southern Morocco, using natural materials and incorporating passive techniques into the roof. The thermal and energetic performances of the same techniques are evaluated by means of dynamic thermal simulations on TRNSYS as well as an experimental study.

Marllos Paiva Prado 18 May 2009 (has links)
Além disso, pretende-se apoiar, por meio dos materiais gerados, o treinamento e o ensino da atividade do teste de software / Software Testing is a quality assurance activity that aims at reducing the number of software faults. This activity contributes for the reduction of maintenance costs and for software quality improvement during the development process. These factors have motivated the investigation and proposal of several testing strategies, techniques, criteria and tools for different programming paradigms, such as procedural, object-oriented and aspect-oriented. Regarding testing criteria, many experimental studies have been performed to evaluate and compare them. In general, these experiments comprise programs developed under the same paradigm or this influence over the results. However, some faults can be paradigm-related and it is important to evaluate its impact on the testing activity. This work presents an experimental study developed to characterize and evaluate the application cost and strength of testing criteria, comparing two programming paradigms: object-oriented and procedural. This study considers functional and strutural testing criteria and uses a set of programs from the data structure domain. Terms and phases from controlled experimentation process were used, as long as they showed to be adequated, to define and execute the present study. The research aims at obtaining initial results about the questions investigated as well as generating artifacts which support the definition and conduction of future experiments and the creation of laboratory packages. In addition, it intends to support, through the materials generated, the training and teaching of software testing activity

Audebert, Maxime 10 December 2010 (has links)
The knowledge of the behavior of structures under fire conditions is essential to control the risks during a fire. As timber is a combustible material, fire safety is of main importance for the development of its use in buildings. Although experimental and numerical studies exist in the literature, their number still limited regarding the variety of the configurations and the complexity of the mechanical behavior of the connections. Among the various structural components, the joints are characterized by a complex thermomechanical behavior due mainly to the geometrical configuration combining various materials (steel and timber). They govern the load-carrying capacity of the structure and its safety, as well in normal conditions as in fire situation. Due to their complex geometrical, physical and material configurations, the behavior of the connections in fire is one of the more difficult to predict. The development of generalized models requires the combination of research based both on the experimental results given by full scale tests and the development of sophisticated numerical models validated on these tests. The experimental results of tests realized on timber-to-timber and steel-to-timber connections used as a basis for the validation of the numerical models are presented. They concern tests of longitudinal and transversal tension and flexion under normal conditions and under standardized thermal actions. The thermomechanical analysis of the connections is made from two different three-dimensional meshings for the thermal and mechanical calculations. The thermal model is continuous to take account of the thermal continuity between the joint components. The mechanical model is discontinuous to consider the contact evolution between the joint components. The thermal model isused to predict the evolution of the temperature field inside the joint depending on the gas temperature. It is validated on the basis of measured temperatures during fire tests. The mechanical model is validated by comparison with the experimental results of joints in normal conditions. It allows the analysis of the distribution of stresses within the joints. The influence of various criteria to represent the mechanical behavior of timber is also studied. Finally, the thermomechanical model, based on previous both models, allowed to predict the behaviorof the tested connections in fire situation. The thermo-mechanical model is validated considering the fire resistance duration of some joints. This duration is defined by means of displacement-time curves obtained by the numerical model. The models showed a good capacity to simulate the failure times of the timber joints in fire situations. The application of the model gave the possibility to analyse the load distribution among the fasteners of the studied joints. The model developed in this work represents well the thermomechanical behavior of the tested connections. These developed and tested models can be used as general tool to analyze the behavior of a large variety of joint configurations to constitute a data base that can be used in safe and economic practice of fire engineering of wood joints.

Soupart-Caron, Adèle 11 December 2015 (has links)
This PhD thesis deals with the understanding of the heat transfer mechanisms and with the development of thermal energy storage system for the industrial waste heat recovery application. The use of Phase Change Materials (PCM) is attractive for its high storage density and its possibility to deliver heat at constant temperature. However, the PCM low thermal conductivity leads to develop heat transfer improvement methods, such as heat exchangers with increased heat transfer surface. The goal is to characterize the behavior of such heat exchangers An experimental study, where four several heat exchangers have been tested with different orientations (horizontal/vertical) and injection types (upward/downward), highlighted the impact of natural convection during the melting process and the volume contraction one during the solidification. These results have been validated through a 3D numerical model. A performance comparison method based on an energy calculation through an experimental mesh is proposed and enables to select a heat exchanger on criteria such as the storage density, the characteristic time and the cost. Three PCM, adapted to our application, have been tested at the intended temperature (100-200 °C) by integrating them into a storage system made of a stainless steel tube with aluminum circular fins. Their ability to resist to repeated cycles has been assessed and their behavior has been compared. The salts mixture, H105 (Tmelting = 122 °C), is not selected for the application because of it low storage density (≈ 56 kWh/m3) and its large melting area. The sebacic acid (Tmelting = 132 °C) has a repeatable behavior with cycles and a higher storage density (≈ 66 kWh/m3) and is appropriate as storage material. The sugar alcohol, erythritol (Tmelting = 118 °C), has good thermo-physical properties (128 kWh/m3) but the crystallization control is a key point to use it as a PCM.

Etude du captage post-combustion du co2 grâce à un procédé vsa (vacuum swing adsorption) avec de nouveaux adsorbants / Study of CO2 post-combustion capture by means of a VSA (Vacuum Swing Adsorption) process with new adsorbents

Guilhamassé, François 09 July 2013 (has links)
To deal with the CO2 emissions increase in the atmosphere due to electricity production, CO2 post-combustion capture by VSA process is a promising solution. The adsorbents used in this study are impregnated TEPA on SiO2, lanthanide oxides and the MOF (Metal Organic Frameworks) SIM-1. For each adsorbent, a study of breakthrough and regeneration was carried out from a feed composed of 15%vol CO2 and N2. From these experiments, the cyclic operating conditions of VSA have been established (short duration phases, no purge). Cyclic performances are compared to that of the absorption process with monoethenolamine. The desorbate purity varies from 89.2% to 97.2%vol according to adsorbent and operating conditions. It is less than that obtained with absorption process (99%vol) but it is correct for transport and storage. The recovery varies from 87.2% to 94.2% (absorption: 98%). The energy consumption is less than that the process with the MEA (from 1.53 to 3.45 MJ.kgCO2 1 for our process and 3.7 MJ.kgCO2 1 for absorption). . Finally, the productivity is of the same order of magnitude as that of other VSA processes from literature. With the numerical model, a local study of the adsorber was carried out. Afterwards, through a parametric study, cycle optimal conditions were determined. The cycle results highlighted comparable performances with the other VSA processes from literature. Moreover, our process needs less energy than absorption process but the desorbate purity and CO2 recovery remain lower.

Étude expérimentale et modélisation d’un plasma de vapeurs métalliques dans une ampoule à vide pour le développement de disjoncteurs Haute-Tension / Experimental study and modelling of a metal vapor plasma in a vacuum chamber for the development of High-Voltage Circuit Breakers

Tezenas du Montcel, Benoît 29 May 2018 (has links)
Ce modèle a permis d’étudier le comportement du plasma d’arc en fonction des intensités du courant d’arc et de l’AMF et de la distance inter-électrodes / In the frame of a project investigating the possibility to replace SF6 by vacuum as a breaking medium in High-Voltage circuit breakers, a study that focusses on acquiring a better understanding of the behavior of a metal vapor arc at long contact gap (> 10 mm) and controlled by an axial magnetic field (AMF) has been undertaken. The study involves first the building of an experimental setup where arcs, created between two fixed CuCr25 contacts, were visualized using a high-speed camera in a vacuum demountable chamber. Various types of arc regime have been observed. Moreover, by means of a numerical method of detection of the cathode spots, we were able to study the evolution of the spatial distribution of the cathode spots, to measure the average current carried by a spot and to determine the average radial profile of the current density at the cathode surface. This study had also for object the development of a 2D-axisymetric and quasi-steady magnetohydrodynamic model of the hydrodynamic flow region of the arc based on a two-fluid approach. The model allows to simulate the supersonic and the subsonic diffuse arc regimes. It is used to study the arc behavior as a function of to the arc current, the AMF intensity and the contact gap

Vocabulary learning & Vlogging : An exploratory study of vocabulary learning in the form of a vlogging exercise, with the use of mobile learning, compared to orthodox written exercises

Gustafsson, Joel January 2016 (has links)
This study investigates two vocabulary exercises where the participant students receive an assigned set of words to put into sentences, one being a more traditional written exercise, the other being an exercise where students make a vlog using the assigned words. Two upper secondary school classes in Sweden participated in the experiment, including responding to a Likert attitude questionnaire. The hypothesis used in this paper is derived of Pegrum’s third category, of higher integration between school and everyday life, and that this would lead to better results for the students who completed the vlogging exercise. The two participating classes were each divided into two group halves, and each group half received one written exercise and one vlogging exercise – consequently each class half acted as a control group for the other half. The responses gathered were divided into three categories, ‘Correct’, ‘Undetermined’, and ‘Failed’. The results disprove that the vlogging exercise offers a significant improvement over the traditional written exercise, and thusly confirms the No Significant Difference phenomenon.
