The regulatory sequences have cis elements and with trans acting that will direct and correctly position the RNA polymerase which is the process of DNA transcription. Genetic engineering of plants by transforming plants expressing genes of interest, use in most studies, constitutive CaMV35S promoter character. A new promoter isolated from soybeans, which is called uceS8.3 showing a constitutive promoter driving expression in different plant tissues. The analysis of the expression of the uidA gene, GUS, demonstrated that the expression profile uceS8.3 controlled by the promoter is comparable or superior to the CaMV35S promoter in plant tissues such as flower buds and roots. Were identified following the uceS8.3 promoter cis regulatory elements that may be responsible for gene expression profile controlled by this promoter. Modules of this promoter, when compared with the CaMV35S promoter and the uceS8.3 itself demonstrated a difference in expression in plant tissues. Cis regulatory elements as ROOTMOTIFPABOX1, POLLEN1LELAT52, MRE, Sp1 and Ibox. The set of specific cis elements located in the promoter uceS8.3 modules may be the minimum necessary elements to control expression in leaf and flower bud tissues. The quantitative expression analysis and fluorometric GUS assays leaf and root tissues have demonstrated a correlation between transcript levels and the specific activity levels of a ??-glucuronidase enzyme in module 2 (720pb), but there is a difference in the balance of these levels between uceS8.3 promoter and Module 4 (170pb). The studies presented here demonstrated that the promoter and its modules has high ability to drive expression in flower tissues and roots, may be used and applied to different types of biotechnologically biotic stresses, including insect pests and nematodes.

No. of bitstreams: 1 467096.pdf: 1073610 bytes, checksum: d2c51163d0ec3d074e37881caa72a6d5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-01-23 / Introdu??o: Emo??es s?o fundamentais em todo o desenvolvimento humano. / Background: Emotions are fundamental across human development. Recognizing emotional face expressions in others is a valuable strategy of non-verbal communication and is particularly relevant throughout childhood given that language skills are not yet fully developed and the first interactions with peers have just started. Despite this, few studies focus on face processing in children and most of the work uses adult face stimuli, since stimuli sets with children pictures are rare. The current dissertation aimed to fill this gap through the development of the Child Emotions Pictures Set (CEPS) and investigating developmental markers of recognition of emotional faces in children aged between six and 11 years-old and the effect of age, sex and length of presentation on it. Methods: The dissertation is composed of two studies. Study I was developed in order to have a complete database that could allow Study II. The second study reports an empirical investigation of developmental markers of recognition of emotional faces in children between six and 11 years-old and the effect of sex, age and length of presentation on it. An experiment based on CEPS was presented to 90 children divided in three age groups (6-7 years-old; 8-9 years-old; 10-11 years-old) of boys and girls. Results: The final version of CEPS consists of 225 photos of 17 children, boys and girls, aged six to 11 years-old from multiracial backgrounds posing or naturally expressing the six basic emotions happiness, fear, disgust, surprise, sadness and anger in three intensities low, medium and high and neutrality. Study II reveled that happiness had the higher means of accuracy followed in sequence by disgust, surprise, anger, fear and sadness. Development of emotional face expressions recognition denote to follow childhood chronological course, although, results demonstrate a non-existence of a female advantage length of presentation does not show significant differences. Conclusion: CEPS contributes for the scientific field by making available a child face stimuli set, which is intended to be used in further developmental studies and also enables the development of cross-cultural studies in the field. We also provide further evidence about developmental markers of emotional face expressions recognition and the chronological course that it follows through childhood showing the non-existence of a female advantage on this skill and that longer exposure to stimuli does not facilitate the recognition. This method is susceptible to replication, allowing the establishment of developmental markers of emotional face expressions recognition.

Distribution List Maker Program with Inter-User Capabilities between Universities and Colleges in the Tennessee Board of Regents School System.

Anderson, Allan Richard 01 May 2001 (has links)
E-mail is an important tool for faculty and staff at the university, college, department, and instructor levels. E-mail is a useful medium in the academic setting for corresponding at all levels. Instructors e-mail students about assignments, lectures, and urgent information: for example, postponed classes and changes in the schedule. In addition e-mail is used to let potential students know about job opportunities. Other routine uses for e-mail include group communications within academic committees and groups of students collaborating on projects. Most users of e-mail who send messages to multiple recipients enter each recipients e-mail address into the TO: field individually or enter the name and e-mail address into a distribution list individually. Both methods are time consuming. This thesis describes a tool for facilitating the use of e-mail for classroom management. This tool, List Maker converts class roll listings to e-mail distribution lists for five common e-mail clients: Pegasus Mail, Eudora Lite, Netscape Messenger, Microsoft Outlook Express, and Microsoft Outlook 97/98. List Maker also converts address books and distribution lists from one e-mail client to another. The List Maker program has been adopted for use in selected departments within ETSU. A survey of the programÆs users indicates that List Maker made it easier for users to create distribution list from class rolls. Efforts to distribute List Maker to other Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) colleges, unfortunately, have not yet succeeded due to a lack of uniform computing platforms and e-mail policies in the TBR.

Développement d'une caméra à rayons X ultra-rapide utilisant des détecteurs à pixels hybrides.

Dawiec, Arkadiusz 04 May 2011 (has links) (PDF)

The Grand Paris Express: An Analysis of Social and Political Trends towards Mass Transit Planning in the Île-de-France Region

Leasia, Charlotte M 01 April 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the Grand Paris Express project currently underway in the Île-de-France. The basis of this project is a series of new and renovated railway lines to connect and span across the entirety of the region. They are being planned with the hopes to improve urbanization for the outlying suburbs. The Île-de-France is the wealthiest region in France, but it has high economic inequality between its departments. One hard hit area is Seine-St-Denis. This is the area I will be focusing primarily on. Department number 93, its urban landscape holds histories of rioting, unemployment, and large immigrant populations. In its underdeveloped growth, residents are calling for socio-spatial justice. Professor of Urban and Regional planning Edward Soja (1980) coins this as a “social-spatial dialectic” (208), where any given space is inherently political. Currently, residents in Department 93 are engaged in this “dialectic”, taking action by means of redefining the places where they live. In addition to demands for spatial equality is a more complex and hidden protest: the demand from marginalized citizens for an adjusted French ideology with respect to national identity. In their spatial marginalization, groups are contesting the egalitarian claims of the state based on where they live. I explore the historical significance of the Seine-St-Denis department in the Île-de-France’s urbanizing efforts. This thesis argues that planning for the Grand Paris Express represents the effects of a new French identity in formation. But while Paris is being recreated to accommodate those living in the outer communes, an anti-immigrant state narrative is also resulting in reformed urban planning in an existing discriminatory French ideology. However, as I plan to prove later in my research, the Grand Paris Express will provide more social access for France’s marginalized citizens.
