Karnaphuli River-Life Recreation & Research Center, Chittagong, Bangladesh

Sufian, Hosne A 01 January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Rivers are integral parts of Bangladesh & Bengali people’s life. The whole country is criss-crossed by more than 700 rivers including their tributaries. In other words, rivers formed this country as a delta and have been contributing to spring life to this land with agriculture, food, electricity, transportation, and tranquil beauty, creating opportunity for different occupations, and providing very comfortable moderate climate. Due to over population and urban sprawl, the current development pattern of the country is culminating in filling up wetlands, changing the course of lakes, narrowing down and in some cases killing rivers for urban development leaving great impact on environment. As a consequence, the country is being affected by frequent flood, deforestation, surge, cyclones, and rise of sea level due to global warming. The concern for introducing an adoptive sustainable architecture that interacts with rivers and water, protects environment as well as facilitates new developments has been noticed by scientists and scholars from every sector of development. This thesis will be emphasizing on establishing some unique architectural features that would especially be applicable for riverfront architectures, that leaves least impact on nature and respects the country’s tradition, heritage and lifestyle which are inseparable from rivers.

Source-Receiver Interaction for Structure-Borne Sound Sources on Floor Assemblies with Floating Toppings

Abou Hamed, Mohamed 03 January 2023 (has links)
Neighbor noise has repeatedly been proven to have a detrimental effect on multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) residents’ physical and mental health. Impact noises have been shown to cause the most indoor noise annoyance amongst residents. Moreover, lightweight assemblies are known for their general poor sound insulation and are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to concrete and steel structures in North America and Europe. Floating toppings have been used to control impact noise, but the effect of the source-receiver interaction is often neglected when they are modelled by engineers in the industry. More research needs to be done to determine the actual influence of the source-receiver interaction on floor assemblies with floating toppings. Studying the source-receiver interaction is fundamental to tackling the issue of structure-borne noise in MURBs because it has been shown to influence the first of five factors of impact sound transmission: the power injected. The power injected into a floor due to an impact source has been shown to depend on the mechanical mobility match (or the source-receiver interaction) between the impact source and the impacted floor. However, many questions remain around the significance of the source-receiver interaction. This project investigates the significance of the source-receiver interaction for structure-borne sound sources on floor assemblies with floating toppings, and how much it varies from one source-floor combination to another.

Kostnadsutvecklingen inom flottningen i Dalälven 1900-1970

Sundquist, Arne January 2008 (has links)

The paper, with a brief summary of timber floating in Sweden and also of some previous re-search in this field, contains a study on costs for timber-floating in the river Dalälven located in central Sweden. The public used timber-floating system in Dalälven and the historical background about this activity is described. The study is focused on the total costs for timber-floating in the public open floating system in Dalälven from 1900 to 1970, the year before the timber-floating was definitively closed down. Also the costs for separating the logs of a specific owner when they reached the point where they could be separated from the timber of other owners are analyzed.

Automatische vektorbezogene Generierung von Straßennetzabbildern auf Basis von Floating Car Data

Körner, Matthias, Krimmling, Jürgen, Oertel, Robert 24 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Node-edge-networks representing road infrastructure are base for various applications and services. Georeferencing of vehicles as well as traffic assignment are based on. Routing and traffic conditions visualisation become possible. Requirements concerning precision, topicality and area coverage of road network image are caused by. Low costs are aspired as well. Utilisation of additional benefits from floating car systems is a promising approach, supplementing common technologies like manual digitalisation or capturing road trajectories by special equipped probe vehicle. A vector based method aggregating positions information of floating car to process road infrastructure images will be presented.

Submicron CMOS Programmable Analog Floating-Gate Circuits and Arrays using DC-DC Converters

Hooper, Mark S. 15 April 2005 (has links)
A relatively new area of analog integrated circuits is emerging which is likely to have an impact on the signal processing area --analog floating-gate circuits. Analog floating- gate circuits have the potential to deliver more sophisticated signal processing at less power in a smaller space. This is the result of a novel application of digital memory technology -- the floating-gate MOSFET, that is used as an analog memory and computational device. Critical to the success of analog floating-gate circuits is on-chip programming. After investigating integrated schemes for DC-DC converters to generate the necessary voltages on chip, this research focuses on charge pumps that are integrated into the programming structure of floating-gate circuits. The impact of this research is far reaching since programmability is an indispensable feature of analog floating-gate circuits. This research lays the foundation for meeting the requirement of on-chip programming. Charge pumps will eliminate the need for high voltages to be externally supplied or regulated for analog floating-gate circuits. To the design engineer, the utilization of floating-gate circuits will look identical to their non floating-gate counterparts in terms of the value and number of supply voltages. In addition, the integration of on-chip DC-DC converters will reduce pin count, reduce board space for the implementation of the chip and facilitate distributed on chip power supplies for mixed signal integrated circuits.
