With the 1999 introduction of IEEE 802.11b, the 2.4 GHz Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) standard, the WLAN market finally began to experience the growth levels that had been expected for so long. Now, 5 GHz solutions, with the IEEE 802.11a standard leading the way, offer higher throughput and more efficient use of the spectrum. Just as the 2.4 GHz band, the 5 GHz band is unlicensed. A common concern to all unlicensed bands is interference between devices using the spectrum. Furthermore, in the 5 GHz band, WLAN cells can interfere with radar systems operating at the same frequencies. This report describes a software model, WOK, suitable for simulations of IEEE 802.11a WLANs operating in various environments and under various ambient conditions. The WOK model can be configured extensively with respect to topology, traffic behavior, channel models, signal attenuation, interference sources and radar systems. Further, the concepts of Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) and link adaptation are explored in the context of the IEEE 802.11a standard. DFS aims to avoid channels occupied by radar systems and link adaptation aims to maximize the throughput based on current ambient conditions. A DFS algorithm and a link adaptation algorithm are implemented at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer and evaluated using the WOK model.

Analysis and Design of Cognitive Radio Networks and Distributed Radio Resource Management Algorithms

Cognitive radio is frequently touted as a platform for implementing dynamic distributed radio resource management algorithms. In the envisioned scenarios, radios react to measurements of the network state and change their operation according to some goal driven algorithm. Ideally this flexibility and reactivity yields tremendous gains in performance. However, when the adaptations of the radios also change the network state, an interactive decision process is spawned and once desirable algorithms can lead to catastrophic failures when deployed in a network. This document presents techniques for modeling and analyzing the interactions of cognitive radio for the purpose of improving the design of cognitive radio and distributed radio resource management algorithms with particular interest towards characterizing the algorithms' steady-state, convergence, and stability properties. This is accomplished by combining traditional engineering and nonlinear programming analysis techniques with techniques from game to create a powerful model based approach that permits rapid characterization of a cognitive radio algorithm's properties. Insights gleaned from these models are used to establish novel design guidelines for cognitive radio design and powerful low-complexity cognitive radio algorithms. This research led to the creation of a new model of cognitive radio network behavior, an extensive number of new results related to the convergence, stability, and identification of potential and supermodular games, numerous design guidelines, and several novel algorithms related to power control, dynamic frequency selection, interference avoidance, and network formation. It is believed that by applying the analysis techniques and the design guidelines presented in this document, any wireless engineer will be able to quickly develop cognitive radio and distributed radio resource management algorithms that will significantly improve spectral efficiency and network and device performance while removing the need for significant post-deployment site management. / Ph. Metody pro testování analogových obvodů / Methods for testing of analog circuits

Práce se zabývá metodami pro testování lineárních analogových obvodů v kmitočtové oblasti. Cílem je navrhnout efektivní metody pro automatické generování testovacího plánu. Snížením počtu měření a výpočetní náročnosti lze výrazně snížit náklady za testování. Práce se zabývá multifrekveční parametrickou poruchovou analýzou, která byla plně implementována do programu Matlab. Vhodnou volbou testovacích kmitočtů lze potlačit chyby měření a chyby způsobené výrobními tolerancemi obvodových prvků. Navržené metody pro optimální volbu kmitočtů byly statisticky ověřeny metodou MonteCarlo. Pro zvýšení přesnosti a snížení výpočetní náročnosti poruchové analýzy byly vyvinuty postupy založené na metodě nejmenších čtverců a přibližné symbolické analýze.
