Newspaper style: the headline / Laikraštinis stilius: antraštės

The paper focuses on the analyses of stylistic peculiarities in newspaper headlines. It provides an overview of stylistics, functional styles (newspaper style in more detail), and features of headlines. Also stylistic devices are reviewed and classified. In the empirical part 150 headlines are analyzed while 56 of them are provided as illustrative examples and analyzed in greater detail. Stylistic devices found in the newspaper headlines are allocated to the group they belong to and where it is possible classification of a stylistic devices is provided. / Darbo paskirtis - stilistinių ypatybių analizė laikrščių antraštėse. Yra pateikiama teorinė medžiaga apie stilistiką, funkcinius stilius (laikraštinis stilius aptariamas smulkiau) ir antraščių savybės. Taip pat apžvelgtos stilistinės priemonės ir pateikta jų klasifikacija. Empirinėje dalyje yra išanalizuota 150 antraščių ir 56 pateiktos kaip pavyzdžiai ir išanalizuoti detaliau. Stilistinės priemonės rastos laikraščių antraštėse priskirtos grupei kuriai jos priklauso ir kur yra įmanoma, pateikiama stilistinės priemonės klasifikacija.

В данном диссертационном исследовании анализируется опыт использования переводческих трансформаций в пособии Кэмерона Адэйра по выходу из игровой зависимости “Respawn”, впервые переведённого на русский язык, с позиции двух выбранных для сопоставления трансформационных типологий: Ж.-П. Вине и Ж. Дарбельне и Л. С. Бархударова. Актуальность исследования обуславливается общественным интересом к текстам и переводам, связанным с феноменом высокоскоростного интернета, к видеоиграм, а также необходимостью систематизации теорий переводческих трансформаций. / This master’s thesis analyzes the use of translation transformations in the first-time translated Cameron Adair’s “Respawn” manual on how to quit videogames. The analysis is conducted from the standpoint of two translation theories: J.-P. Vinay and J. Darbelnet’s and L. S. Barkhudarov’s. The importance of the study is determined by the social interest for texts and translations related to high-speed Internet and videogames, as well as by the necessity for translation transformation theories systematization.

The topic of the thesis is the use of translation exercises in foreign language lessons (namely Spanish). The first part of the thesis deals with the development of foreign language teaching, the status of mother tongue (and translation) in foreign language teaching, positive cross-linguistic transfer and interference. Further, individual methods of foreign language teaching are analyzed. It is stated whether or not the translation exercises are used for each of the methods. In the second part, we find the definition and categorization of the translation and examples of the translation exercises. The last part is focused on stylistics (narrative techniques, writing genres and functional styles). The specifics of translation are listed and the translation exercises are suggested for each functional style.

Mokinių rašinių sakinio sandara ir funkcijos / Sentence structure and function in schoolchildren‘s essays

Lietuvių kalba išsiskiria ne tik turtingu žodynu, bet ir plačiomis galimybėmis mintis reikšti įvairios sandaros sakiniais: vientisiniais (asmeniniais dvinariais ir asmeniniais vienanariais, beasmeniais, asmeninių sakinių modifikacijomis), sudėtiniais (sujungiamaisiais, prijungiamaisiais, bejungtukiais, mišriaisiais). Mokinys, baigęs dešimtą klasę, turėtų išmanyti visas lietuvių kalbos sakinių rūšis, sandarą ir funkcijas, turėtų gebėti laisvai teorines žinias taikyti praktikoje – rašyti ir kalbėti funkcionaliais, įvairios sandaros sakiniais. Darbo tema – mokinių rašinių sakinio sandra ir funkcijos. Kalbant apie rašinius, daug dėmesio skiriama paties rašinio turiniui, stiliui, formai. Mokinių rašinių sakinio sintaksė ir funkcijos yra mažai tyrinėtos, nėra ištirta, kokios sandaros sakiniai mokinių rašiniuose dominuoja, o kokios sandaros vartojami retai, kas gali turėti įtakos mokinių rašinių sakinio struktūrai ir funkcijoms, neaišku, ar su amžiumi, lyginant 9–12 klasių mokinių sakinius, sakinio struktūra sudėtingėja. Ištyrus 60 vyresniųjų klasių (9–12) rašinių, galima pastebėti, kad mokiniai iš tiesų geba vartoti įvairių funkcinių tipų ir įvairios sandaros sakinius. Taip pat galima teigti, kad rašinio žanras turėjo įtakos funkcinių sakinių tipų vartojimui. Sakinių sandara taip tiesiogiai su rašinio žanru ar mokinių amžiumi susijusi nebuvo. Vyresniųjų klasių mokiniai vartojo sudėtingos struktūros sakinių, kurių visiškai nevartojo arba vartojo minimaliai jauniausi iš tirtų... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The Lithuanian language is not only prominent in its rich vocabulary but also there are quite a lot of possibilities to express ideas and thoughts using different sentence structures, such as: simple sentences (personal binomial and personal monomial, impersonal, modifications of personal sentences), complex sentences (coordinate, subordinate, parataxis and composite). The tenth form leaver should know all kinds of sentences, sentence structure and its function. He/she should be able to use all his/her theoretical knowledge in practice, it means he/she should be able to speak and write using functional, various sentence structures. The theme of the work – sentence structure and function in schoolchildren‘s essays. Considering essays themselves, a lot of attention is paid to the context, style and form of the essay. There was little research done of sentence syntax and function in schoolchildren’s essays. There was no research done what kind of sentence structure dominate in schoolchildren essays, what sentence structure is rarely used and what makes an influence which sentence structure and function to use. Moreover, it is not clear, if sentence structure becomes more complex according to the schoolchild’s age, comparing schoolchildren’s essays of the 9th–12th form. Využití překladu z cizího jazyka pro rozvoj textových kompetencí v mateřském jazyce / The use of translation from a foreign language text for the development of textual competencies in mother tongue

The topic of this thesis is the use of translation from a foreign language as a tool to improve textual competence in the mother tongue. The first part deals with the evolution of foreign language teaching, the status of mother tongue in foreign language teaching, positive cross-linguistic transfer and interference. Further, the concept of the method is defined and different methods of foreign language teaching are described. It's specified whether the mother tongue and translation exercises are or are not used while using each of the listed teaching methods. The second part defines translation and categorizes types of translation and contains various types types of translation exercises. The last part is focused on stylistics (narrative techniques, writing genres and functional styles). A sample of translation from Czech into Spanish and vice versa is supplied for a majority of the functional styles.

The aim of the Thesis ?Written texts in the matter-of-fact functional style? is to describe the changes of functional styles in present day communication, as the consequence of diminishing of differences between formality and informality. Concerning the extent of the issue, we will mainly focus on spontaneous written documents of the matter-of-fact functional style, which have been significantly replacing the primarily spoken speeches. The work goes on analysis of language material which has been gathered within opinion newsgroup portal Novinky.cz discussions. The analysis of the recorded materialis aimed at determining the way the spontaneous vicarious written documents resemble the speeches and considering if they keep some of their distinguishing features of a written text.
