Peace on whose terms? War Veterans¿ Association in Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Bojicic-Dzelilovic, V. January 2004 (has links)
no / The 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and Hercegovina (BiH) was the most violent phase of the dissolution of former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), of which, for almost 50 years, BiH was one of six constituent republics. In the course of the war BiH¿s three main ethic groups- - Muslims, Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Serbs, with active involvement of neighbouring Croatia and Serbia, fought each other in pursuit of its own vision of BiH political and territorial (re) organization. The causes and the character of the war remain contentious, the main disagreement being over the issue of whether it was a war of aggression by BiH¿s neighbours or a civil war. Essentially, it contained the elements of both, which determined the way the war was fought, the multiplicity of actors involved, and complexity of agendas played out in the course of the conflict, its settlement and peace building process. The fighting was brought to end by an intense international military and diplomatic campaign, which pushed the worrying parties into compromise none of which considered just. The task of implementing complex terms of the peace agreement was put overwhelmingly in the hands of international actors, while local parties pursued the strategy of obstruction, trying to assert their own interpretation of the peace agreement that would accommodate some of their war aims. This paper looks at war veterans associations, as one particular type of non- state actors engaged in undermining peace settlement in the specific context of BiH war. Because of their position on the continuum between combatants and outside actor, and the nature of relationship with the political leadership negotiating the peace agreement, this case could provide different insights into the issue of spoiling in the types of contemporary conflicts characterised by multiplicity of both actors and agendas, and complex strategies needed to pacify them. The paper starts by brief analysis of the political and economic goals behind the 1992-1995 war, narrowing inquiry into Bosnian Croats self- rule as a political project and goal of the strategy of spoiling pursued by Bosnian Croat war veterans associations. It then reflects on the terms of the peace agreement, indicating some of the main areas the implementation of which was actively obstructed by this group. The analysis of the war veterans association deals with their origins and the position in the Bosnian Croat post- war power structures, the sources of their funding and their official and hidden agenda. The probe into spoiling tactics focuses on three important aspects of the peace agreement i.e. refugee return, war crimes prosecution and institution building, and is followed by a brief analysis on the impact of various strategies the international community as a custodian of peace has used to sustain its implementation.

Financování politických stran: mezinárodní komparace / Political Party Funding: an International Comparison

Bejdák, Matěj January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to identify significant weaknesses of political party funding system in the Czech Republic, and to suggest possible improvements of the system. Knowledge acquired in the first part of the thesis, which deals with the theoretical basis of political party funding, is used to analyse the applicable legislation. This part of the thesis first of all describes the legal framework of political parties, the principles and goals of political party funding, and possible approaches to the funding; the most space is devoted to one of the possible approaches, regulatory measures, which is divided on the basis of supply side (state a private funding) and demand side (mainly campaign spending regulation). The Czech legislation is not only analysed in general and using the theoretical basis, but is also compared with the system adopted by the Federal Republic of Germany. The hypothesis is that the German law is a good example for the Czech Republic in the field of party financing, for the Federal Republic of Germany has been a developed democratic state of law for a longer uninterrupted period of time, and was one of the first countries in the world to introduce state funding of political parties. The second part of the thesis describes, analyses and compares the applicable legislation of the...

Situation der Philosophie, Kultur der Philosophen

Schneider, Ulrich Johannes 16 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)

“These Days, when a Belgrader Asked: ‘How Are You Doing?’, the Answer Is: ‘I’m Waiting’.” Everyday Life During the 1999 NATO Bombing

Satjukow, Elisa 24 November 2020 (has links)
On the evening of the 24th of March, 1999, the first air strikes hit multiple targets in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The “Operation Allied Force” had begun. The air raids lasted for 78 days. The Milošević regime used the “state of exception” (Agamben 2004) to further and deepen its own propagandistic imperatives of national unity and to advertise the necessity of the “war of defence” within the nation. The state started to offer a wide range of events that not only entertained its citizens but also created forums for them to meet and to “unite” against the enemy. Beyond the state-prescribed cultural events, numerous efforts sprang up throughout the city to maintain a social and cultural life. This paper will tell of the diverse ways in which the people of Belgrade spent their time between and during the air raids.

Nájem bytu - komparace českého a německého právního řádu / Lease of Flat -comparison of Czech and German Laws

Šenkeříková, Simona January 2021 (has links)
Lease of Flat - comparison of Czech and German Laws Abstract This Master's thesis deals with the legislation governing lease of a flat under the laws of the Czech Republic and of the Federal Republic of Germany. The authors of the Czech Civil Code (Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code) drew inspiration from the German Civil Code ("Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch" of 18 August 1896, as amended on 2 January 2002) and its influence can be traced in many provisions of its Czech counterpart. The lease of a flat is a burning issue in both jurisdictions, sensitive to political changes in the country, with a strong social subtext, and great emphasis is placed on the protection of the tenant as the weaker party. Unlike the Czech legislation, the German laws on lease of a flat are more robust, more detailed, and social policy is palpable throughout the German Civil Code; this, however, attracts criticism from its opponents at times. Since the laws on lease of a flat are abundant and the thesis is written from the viewpoint of two jurisdictions, the thesis does not provide a comprehensive overview of the topic, but rather focuses on one component, specifically the rent and other payments. The rent and other payments constitute a very dynamic as well as controversial area of the German laws governing the lease of a flat; it...

Bytová politika SRN a ČSR v letech 1948/9-1960 / Housing Policy in the Federal Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia in 1948/9-1960

Rambousek, Filip January 2017 (has links)
The thesis analyses housing policy in the Federal Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia in 1948/9-1960. The aim of the thesis is to verify the assumption, that whereas housing policy of the FRG can be considered as rather successful, that of Czechoslovakia was rather unsuccessful. In addition to that, the thesis aims at interpreting the success/failure with respect to 1) the factual political steps of the two regimes, 2) the level of economic development and demographic trends, 3) the traditions of housing policies before 1948/9 and 4) the situation in housing sector immediately after WWII. The successfulness of housing policy is derived from its results in realm of dwelling construction, financial affordability and quality of housing. The methodological section contains a theoretical classification of the two political and social systems and a definition of housing policy and criteria of the comparison. Following two chapters analyse housing policy traditions before 1948/9 and housing policy of the two states in 1948/9-1960. In the latter case, before anything else, the chapter introduces the institutional framework, main actors and the most important legislation. However, the comparison as such is rather based on results of the respective housing policies. These are - in the last section -...
