What method can be used to broaden IT systems towards new markets? : Development of a development process with application in a case study.

Poyraz, Furkan, Sakalouski, Pavel January 2017 (has links)
Within each activity, there is always some kind of project planning when you want to do business in a new market. These types of preparation are done in different ways and the challenge for companies is to make use of the right establishment strategy. To succeed in implementing a project, on the respective market that organizations are working on, one of the success factors is to have a clear and thoughtful approach. The company Beta offers cloud-based customs management services, which provide solutions that help other companies handle their customs issues. Beta is established in the Swedish market and wants to try to offer their IT solutions in Norway. The company therefore has a need to investigate how the Norwegian market looks, if there is an opportunity to broaden their existing system solutions and, if so, how they should go about getting a working system that can communicate with the Norwegian customs office. The report proposes a method that can be used as a basis for expanding a business to new markets. The development process presented should also be generalized, serve as a basis, and used by other companies facing the same challenge as Beta. This report also contains an analysis of the Norwegian market. There is a comparison between parts of the Swedish and Norwegian customs system and a presentation of the changes that need to be made based on differences. As a result, the report provides a clear picture of how one might possibly be able to address similar problems. The project members also present a result describing a solution to Beta's problems.

RANGE AND SPACE NETWORKING - WHAT’S MISSING

Rash, James, Hogie, Keith, Criscuolo, Ed, Parise, Ron 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / A large selection of hardware and software components are readily available for supporting Internet communication in the ground network environment. These components can be used to construct very powerful and flexible communication systems. The Operating Missions as Nodes on the Internet (OMNI) project at NASA/GSFC has been defining and demonstrating ways to use standard Internet technologies for future space communication. Theses concepts and technologies are also applicable to test range telemetry applications. This paper identifies the network equipment and protocols to support end-to-end IP communication from range sensors and spacecraft instruments to end users. After identifying the end-to-end network hardware and software components, the paper discusses which ones are currently available and lists specific examples of each. This includes examples of space missions currently using Internet technology for end-to-end communication. It also lists missing pieces and includes information on their current status. The goal of this paper is also to stimulate thought and discussion on what steps need to be taken to start filling in the remaining missing pieces for end-to-end range and space network connectivity.

API development for persistent data sessions support

Pailom, Chayutra 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / This thesis studies and discusses the development of the API, called the persistency API, for supporting the persistent data sessions. Without persistent session support, network applications often need to be restarted from the beginning when intermittent physical connection loss happens. Application programmers can use the persistency API to achieve the service continuity. The persistency API provides the interface that allows a program to continue retrieve data from the point the connection is lost after the physical connection is restored. The focus of this thesis is to develop a generalized persistency API that supports various types of applications. This thesis studies the persistent session support for two types of transport protocols, TCP and UDP, which are used by major network applications. An application that performs text file and video file transfer is implemented to demonstrate the persistent data transfer sessions for TCP and UDP, respectively. The study shows that the proposed APIs can support the data transfer continuity in the reconnection process. / Captain, Royal Thai Army

Congestion Control for Streaming Media

Chung, Jae Won 18 August 2005 (has links)
"The Internet has assumed the role of the underlying communication network for applications such as file transfer, electronic mail, Web browsing and multimedia streaming. Multimedia streaming, in particular, is growing with the growth in power and connectivity of today's computers. These Internet applications have a variety of network service requirements and traffic characteristics, which presents new challenges to the single best-effort service of today's Internet. TCP, the de facto Internet transport protocol, has been successful in satisfying the needs of traditional Internet applications, but fails to satisfy the increasingly popular delay sensitive multimedia applications. Streaming applications often use UDP without a proper congestion avoidance mechanisms, threatening the well-being of the Internet. This dissertation presents an IP router traffic management mechanism, referred to as Crimson, that can be seamlessly deployed in the current Internet to protect well-behaving traffic from misbehaving traffic and support Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of delay sensitive multimedia applications as well as traditional Internet applications. In addition, as a means to enhance Internet support for multimedia streaming, this dissertation report presents design and evaluation of a TCP-Friendly and streaming-friendly transport protocol called the Multimedia Transport Protocol (MTP). Through a simulation study this report shows the Crimson network efficiently handles network congestion and minimizes queuing delay while providing affordable fairness protection from misbehaving flows over a wide range of traffic conditions. In addition, our results show that MTP offers streaming performance comparable to that provided by UDP, while doing so under a TCP-Friendly rate."

[en] LOWERING THE EXECUTION TIME OF SCIENTIFIC DISTRIBUTED WORKFLOWS BASED ON INFORMED FILE LOCATION / [pt] MELHORIA DE TEMPO NA EXECUÇÃO DE WORKFLOWS CIENTÍFICOS DISTRIBUÍDOS BASEADA NA LOCALIZAÇÃO INFORMADA DE ARQUIVOS

PEDRO MENDONCA PINTO ROCHA 01 August 2018 (has links)
[en] For distributed scientific workflows the main method of sharing data between the execution nodes is through files. When those files are large, a substantial portion of the workflow s execution time is spent transferring the files between the storage server and the execution nodes. This work proposes a strategy for transfering the files directly between the execution nodes, antecipating the requirements of the next step of the workflow and lowering the overhead from transfering the files to and of the storage server. This dissertation analises scenarios in which this strategy shows to be advantajous and in which it doesn t.

Nensén, Mattias, Hedlund, Henrik January 2015 (has links)
In a world where the demand for flexibility, security, and hardware optimization are key factors when it comes to implementing a corporate IT environment Virtual Desktop solutions a gaining more and more ground. With these environments there are also issues when it comes to user experience if the network in question is unable to fulfill the specifications that such an environment requires. We have looked at the implications some network variables might have for a VDI solution. To shed a light on these issues we have conducted two tests in an VDI environment. The first test consisted of measuring the latency at which the desktop on the client was rendered from the virtualization server at different network sizes. The second test was to measure the same latency at different bandwidth loads on the line between the client and the Virtualization Host. As we realised that the key factor was the bandwidth load, we made a test to measure the way a client could influence that bandwidth. We saw that by transferring data to the desktop (i.e. the Virtualization Host) one user could personally take up the whole bandwidth and leave noting for the VDI traffic, rendering it useless. This was solved by implementing Quality of Service in the form of Traffic policing, thus restricting the amount of bandwidth the user could use for file transfers.
