During the nineteenth century secondary schools in Sergipe received an influx of a cultural object important to the school culture of the time: the textbooks and book scholar. These textbooks were intended to meet the requirement of the regulations and decrees teaching in various school subjects among which the Rational and Moral Philosophy. By their methods and content textbooks aimed at improving morally and rationally instruct the hearts of the students. Thus, the general objective and specific this study was to analyze the contents for teaching these subjects in secondary school; show how the disciplines were organized Rational and Moral Philosophy; highlight the presence of textbooks Rational and Moral Philosophy of which contributed to the school culture Sergipe. The main hypothesis of the study was to show that the understanding of philosophy that had in the nineteenth century as "science", "doctrine" or "discipline" allowed the organization of content required for their teaching and, in turn, the textbooks were teaching tools favored for achieving this. The contents of textbooks Rational and Moral Philosophy congregated a set of theoretical knowledge, practical and propaedeutic that shaped secondary education and contributed to the formation of a school culture in the provinces Sergipe. / Durante o século XIX, as escolas secundárias em Sergipe receberam o influxo de um objeto cultural importante para a cultura escolar da época: os compêndios e manuais escolares. Tais compêndios visavam a cumprir a exigência dos regulamentos e decretos de ensino nas mais diversas disciplinas escolares, dentre as quais: a Filosofia Racional e Moral. Por seus métodos e conteúdos, os compêndios pretendiam instruir racionalmente e melhorar moralmente o coração dos estudantes. Assim, os objetivos deste estudo foram: analisar os conteúdos de dois compêndios de ensino dessas matérias na escola secundária; mostrar como estavam organizadas as disciplinas Filosofia Racional e Moral; destacar a presença de compêndios escolares de Filosofia Racional e Moral que concorreram para a cultura escolar sergipana. A principal hipótese da investigação foi mostrar que o entendimento que havia da Filosofia no século XIX permitiu organizar os conteúdos exigidos para seu ensino e, por sua vez, os compêndios foram instrumentos pedagógicos privilegiados para realizar tal intento. Com o desenvolvimento desta investigação, foi possível apreender que os conteúdos dos compêndios de Filosofia Racional e Moral congregavam um conjunto de saberes teóricos, práticos e propedêuticos que modelaram o ensino secundário e contribuíram para a formação de uma cultura escolar na província sergipana.
