The interaction between moving humans and structures usually occurs in slender structures where the level of vibration is potentially high. Furthermore, there is the addition of mass to the structural system due to the presence of people and an increase in damping due to the human body´s ability to absorb vibrational energy. In this work, a test campaign is presented to obtain parameters for a single degree of freedom (SDOF) biodynamic model that represents the action of a walking pedestrian in the vertical direction. The parameters of this model are the modal mass (m), damping (c) and stiffness (k). The experimental measurements are performed on a force platform, and the inputs are the spectral acceleration amplitudes of the first three harmonics at the waist level of the tested subjects and the corresponding amplitudes of the first three harmonics of the vertical ground reaction force. This leads to a system of nonlinear equations that are solved using a gradient-based optimization algorithm. A set of individuals took part in the tests to ensure inter-subject variability, and, regression expressions and an artificial neural network (ANN) were used to relate the biodynamic parameters to the pacing rate and the body mass of the pedestrians. The results showed some scatter in damping and stiffness that could not be precisely correlated with the mass and pacing rates of the subjects. The use of the ANN resulted in significant improvements in the parameter expressions with a low uncertainty. Moreover, two models were used to represent the pedestrian loading: (a) simple force model (SFM) where the force from successive footfalls is represented by the Fourier series, with a constant pedestrian speed, acting on a straight line in the direction of walking; (b) fully synchronized force model (FSFM) where the load components are represented considering kinetic and kinematic parameters and are synchronized in time and space. The results show that there may be important differences in structural behavior when a FSFM is used, especially in footbridges with high flexibility. Finally, the measured vertical accelerations on a prototype footbridge show the adequacy of the numerical model for the representation of the effects of walking pedestrians on the structure. The results are consistent for several crowd densities.

Concepção de tabuleiros curvos e estaiados. / Conception of cable-stayed curved decks.Gabriela Mariana Chung 15 December 2017 (has links)
In systems of suspended cable bridges, the cable-stayed bridges had been widely used because of its capacity to overcome large spans and for being aesthetically well accepted by society, valuing the urban space and often making it a landmark. Currently, where the optimization of road infrastructure is of utmost importance, cable-stayed bridges are quite exploited by their constructive advantages, not requiring large areas of support during construction that may affect the existing traffic flow. In addition to this, the choice of the type of structure is due to several other factors such as local conditions of the foundation, the consumption of materials and labor, construction facilities, etc. It is necessary to study other forms of use of such structures, as in the case of curved bridges, where a straight path would not be enough to overcome an obstacle and respect the geometry of the road. For this, the knowledge of the techniques and theories behind curved cable-stayed bridges is a requisite for the study of a more favorable and/or optimized design, where all the factors that influence their behavior should be evaluated. This paper presents the assessment of forces on the deck and pylon for several structural models. In the first step, the models design will be discussed applied to a case by comparing the forces to evaluate the feasibility of simulating the initial tensioning in the cables through the application of a temperature drop. Next, the effects of the pylon position and the unilateral positioning of the cables will be evaluated, allowing to obtain the configuration that presents a better overall performance. Finally, the analyzes will be applied to a case with a wider deck. From the obtained results, it has been found that the configuration of deck suspended by the inner side, which does not invade the pedestrian or vehicle clearance, has proved to be feasible without, however, presenting all the structural advantages, so that there is significant torsion. In contrast, flexion was reduced.

Previous issue date: 2011-10-31 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / One of the standard procedures for analyzing the dynamic behavior of a footbridge is to
build a virtual model and do simulations considering the mechanics involved. Until
recently, in terms of forces applied on structures by pedestrians, only the forces applied by
the feet of the pedestrians while they walk were considered. For single individuals
crossings a footbridge, the force model is a good representation of the dynamic action of
the pedestrian, but in cases of crossings of groups and crowds there were differences
between the response obtained from the responses of force model and measured responses
on actual structures. Some studies have found evidence that groups of people change the
system by adding mass and damping. To fill this gap between the force model and
experimental response, the e pedestrian was modeled not only through the forces applied
on the structure when walking, but also adding to this force a S1GL to take into account
the contributions of mass and damping of the human body structure. This dynamic system
that represents each individual is called biodynamic model and the crowd of pedestrians
were formed by a group of these systems. The parameters of this model were determined
through a process of minimization of equations obtained from the generic response of a
S1GL, taking as input the forces applied by foot to the floor, the body mass of the
individual, the step rate and the acceleration measured near the individual center of gravity
while walking. This process led to correlation expressions where it was possible to obtain
the parameters of S1GL from body mass and step rates for a given individual. In sequence,
these models were coupled to the model of a footbridge in an amount corresponding to the
occupancy rate, so as to compare the responses of the model with actual experimental
measurements on the footbridge. It was observed that the responses of a footbridge model
with the inclusion of biodynamic models showed a very close agreement to the
corresponding response measured on the actual structure, confirming the initial premise.
considerando a mecânica envolvida.
estrutura real, confirmando a premissa inicial.

Lávka přes Berounku / Footbridge across the BerounkaZlatuška, Karel January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with design of plan – curved footbridge over Berounka river near the town of Čivice. Three different options were developed. First option includes a single – beam prestressed integral construction with haunches. The second option includes suspension footbridge construction, where the bridge deck is suspended at one side. In the third option the main span is built from concrete segments. Those are suspended on a pair of steel arches. The access ramps are cast – in – place, and they are supported by round steel piers. This variant was finally chosen as the best one and it was further processed. The construction was analyzed with Scia Engineer 2015 software, considering the construction process. The footbridge was loaded with dead loads and live loads including traffic and thermal actions. The internal forces were calculated and the construction was assess to the serviceability and ultimate limit states. In terms of serviceability, stress in concrete sections and deformations were checked. In terms of the ultimate limit state, the ultimate load capacities were calculated. The steel arches and piers were checked for possibility of loss of stability by buckling. The loss of stability was also checked by the software. Finally the dynamic behaviour of the construction was assessed, especially the harmonic excitation response. Then the construction plan and the drawings were made. The drawings include overview drawings and detailed drawings.
