A soiciological survey of workers' perception towards the establishment of workplace forum in South African industry: a study of Felixton Sugar Mill Industry in Kwa-Zulu Natal Province

Zikhali, Prudence Thobile Sakhephi January 2000 (has links)
Dissertation presented in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Industrial Sociology at the University of Zululand, 2000. / The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of workers towards the establishment of workplace forum at Felixton Sugar Mill Industry in South Africa. In this study both management and employees were selected to participate. This involves visiting participants in the workplace for the purposes of privacy and concentration. This helped the researcher to have an access of meeting all the respondents. In this research 30 respondents were selected from 230 employees using a simple random technique. The cluster system was also used to divide the industry into departments from which the final respondents were selected. Although 30 respondents may not be sufficient for a research of this capacity, the observation method was also used to collect and solicit the necessary information for this research. In addition to this, the researcher made use of most of the official records and statistics that were made available to her. The central view held by this study was that, workplace forums are very useful in achieving efficiency in the workplace and that they help in improving trade union activities. The critical view of the study was that there are few workplace forums established in South African industries. This has earlier been confirmed by the HRSC surveys conducted in 1997. This showed that, the industries should provide some possible measures for the establishment of the workplace forums in order to reduce industrial unrest. But the problem is that trade unions did not encourage this because they see workplace forum as a threat to them. Special attention was on workplace forum because it was taken as a second channel of representation which intended to be one of the primary instruments of the Act to democratise the workplace. The following recommendations were made: Workplace forums should be established in all industries. Trade unions should be involved in the workplace forums. There should be the prevention of the establishment of other forums within one organisation. Management and workers should work together in order to prevent impending conflict. The researcher was able to propose the following solutions for the purpose of reducing conflict in the workplace: Companies should train managers so that they can handle conflicts and maintain harmony in the workplace. The plan should be communicated and every worker should be involved. A supervisor should be concerned when an employee shows signs of serious personal stress. Companies should have a strong policy that prohibits any form of harassment or threatening behaviour. Companies should develop a crisis management team to handle violent incidents before, during and after they occur. It is hoped that the above recommendations and solutions if implemented, will bring some changes in the workplace. When that happens, the rate of conflict will show a significant decline. This will contribute towards the general enhancement of the quality of working life in industries.

Living with Chordoma Online: A Thematic Analysis of User's Experiences in an Online Cancer Support Group

Xenakis, Gina Marie 02 June 2009 (has links)
The internet has revolutionized the way people are able to seek information and express themselves. Many fields have been dramatically impacted by its occurrence and the health field is no exception. It is becoming increasingly popular to participate in online discussion forums centered on health-related topics. The goal of this research is to describe participants' experience of using an on-line forum focused on Chordoma, a rare form of cancer. Analysis of free-response questionnaires filled out by members of the forum, revealed four key themes: (a) the forum is a source of invaluable information, (b) the forum is a source for emotional support and hope, (c) members share a unique bond that often results in friendship, and (d) members' involvement changes over time. Benefits obtained by the users and implications for medical professionals are discussed. / Master of Science

Progressive Swahili bibliography (1990s - 2001)

Geider, Thomas 09 August 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Once more we can offer our readers some further titles of the Swahili- related research literature, some brand new in publication, others already out since years, yet still not yet put on record for the wider world of Swahilists. Our call for bibliographical references was hardly responded to by the readers of Swahili Forum VII and other possible contributors except for one scholar who much prefers to be `in consultation with` a certain other scholar. Therefore we once more would like to draw your attention to communicate your articles, books and other resources on Swahili studies to us so that the bibliographical section of the next Swahili Forum will be a treasure house again. Atiya koko wangue koma (Tiuow a fruit stone into the tree and you may bring down a doum-fruit). For the present issue we present all the titles which we happened to come across during one year of observation.

ZŠ / Forum theatre and its influence on solving the problems in the clas of the Primary School

Kubecová, Milena January 2015 (has links)
The dissertation concentrates on drama in education, which is my specialization, specifically on one of its techniques - Forum Theatre. Its objective is to assess the efficiency of Forum Theatre as a method applied to solve disciplinary problems among primary school pupils. In the theoretical part, I deal in detail with the ideas promoted by the founder of Theatre of the Oppressed, Augusto Boal. Studying his approaches, I return back to the roots of the Brazilian nation which brought forth the very principles of the theatre. I also elaborate on general characteristics of the aggressive behaviour among school pupils that teachers have to address and in particular proactively prevent by implementing preventive programmes and closely cooperating with pupils and their parents as well. One of such programmes is based on performances given by Divadelta, a civic association I started to cooperate with during the field research that I carried out for the purposes of my dissertation. They suggested I could study the staging of their routine performance titled Trest (The Punishment) targeting pupils of the primary stage at elementary schools and focusing on aggressive behaviour at the beginning of their school education. The research was carried out among pupils of the 3rd and 4th grades at two elementary...

De Michele, Patrick 15 December 2012 (has links)
This dissertation presents the results of research carried out on the architecture of the monumental municipal and religious center of the ancient city of Apta Iulia (Apt). A Latin colony created apparently by the initiative of Julius Caesar and finalized by Octavian-Augustus during the first century B.C., its remains are scattered inside the cellars of the old center of the city of Apt. We have committed ourselves to defining the chronology covering the periods corresponding to its creation up to its presence within modern constructions in the city center. The principal buildings studied are the ancient theatre, its porticus post scaenam, the possible presence of a basilica and the main components of its forum (temple and senate). The results are presented in the form of maps of the group of discovered structures and by a significant collection of photographs of the principal edifices of this monumental urban Gallo-Roman ensemble.

Forum shopping: modo lícito de escolha de jurisdição? / Forum shopping: lawful mode of choice of jurisdiction?

Camargo, Solano de 09 September 2015 (has links)
The international doctrine usually conceptualizes forum shopping as the choice of jurisdiction more favorable to the plaintiff, in the hypothesis where there is international concurrent jurisdictions. A whole series of phenomena brought with the globalization (whether political, social or economic) reverberate concretely in the private international law, expanding the possibilities of disputes in a worldwide scale, bringing with itself several concerns. The exercise of such option in foreign jurisdictions, through out the time, has led the international doctrine and jurisprudence to qualify the forum shopping either as an abuse of procedural right either as a legitimate potestative right of the plaintiff. The purpose of this work is the analysis of the phenomenon in the context of private international law, focusing on the effects of substantive and procedural order that reflect in the conflicts filed in Brazil and in abroad, analyzing the cases of international repercussions.

Fernandes, Ana Angélica Pereira January 2008 (has links)
This thesis investigates how the exchanges occur between the individuals in the forum and discussion list and how you can view the process of egocentrism to taking off the Center from him through the levels provided for in the design analysisbased epistemological piagetiana. This is a qualitative research - a case study conducted in the course of graduate degree in pedagogy, in the programmer of distance learning (PEAD) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. The course is addressed to the formation of teachers of public schools of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. For this, the data collection was carried out from the selection of records of participation of students in formation in virtual forum and discussion list and possible see the levels that indicate the process of egocentrism to taking off the Center from him in situations of trade between individuals. The results indicate the importance of interactions to the learning process of students in formation and it was possible to see that exchanges stimulate the process of taking off the Center from him thereby providing conditions to coordinate different points of view. The results also indicate that students in formation demonstrate difficulties to working together, this is evidenced by the high rate of participation egocentric, therefore in most of the shares don’t show establish relation with the point oh view of the classmates, condition that’s necessarie to the pocess of taking the center of him occur. From the results we can conclude that the process of taking the Center of him is an evolving process and that each new opportunity to exchange allows that the evolution of the exchanges between the individuals. This shows us the fecundity of the theory piagetiana as support for analysis of interactive processes in contexts in the distance mode.
