Virginia Carter Smith: Her Career and Contributions to Advancement in Higher EducationRussell, Kimberly A. 05 1900 (has links)
Most research studies of women in the college and university advancement profession measure the number of women in advancement positions, report their corresponding salaries and reflect on the differences between male and female employees in the same position. Little research explores how women achieve high ranking advancement positions and very few provide an analysis of the characteristics, influences and careers of successful female advancement professionals. This dissertation describes the life and work of Virginia Carter Smith, founding editor of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's award winning publication CURRENTS.
The career and contributions of Virginia Carter Smith are relevant and helpful to advancement professionals in colleges, universities and K-12 institutions. This study explores Smith's formative years as a child, describes her educational and extra-curricular preparation and identifies individuals who influenced her life and provided direction for her future. It also examines Smith's role in the formation and direction of CASE and CURRENTS. Smith successfully launched CURRENTS in 1975 when few women held senior-level positions in advancement-related fields. With Smith's contributions, CASE became the dominate professional organization for advancement professionals working in educational institutions, and CURRENTS continues to be an exemplary professional development periodical for individuals working in advancement.
This study also examines how Smith promoted qualified individuals, particularly women, to senior-level positions in colleges and university advancement offices. Hundreds of women and men in the profession claim that Smith's served as a role model or mentor to them. Smith contributed to the increase of women in advancement offices nationally over the last twenty years. Her high standards for herself and for other development officers helped professionalize the field for everyone.

Captação de recursos por empresas em recuperação judicial e Fundos de Investimento em Direitos Creditórios (FIDC) / Fund-raising by companies in judiciary reorganization and Receivables FundsTrovo, Beatriz Villas Boas Pimentel 29 May 2013 (has links)
This research examines, from the Brazilian Law focus, the fund-raising for viable Companies in crisis, during the judiciary reorganization procedure, through the capital markets, specifically with the assignment of receivables to Receivables Funds. Factors influencing alumni connection and commitmentHummel, Ruth, University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Arts and Science January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this exploratory, mixed method study was to examine factors in students‟ university experiences that affected their future alumni engagement with their university. A web-based survey instrument was administered to 1,139 University of Lethbridge bachelor‟s degree holders who graduated during the University‟s first 40 years (1967 to 2007). Results indicate that the foundation for alumni engagement is set early in the student experience and is particularly affected by the nature of the relationships the student has with the institution. Alumni who were engaged as students were more likely to become engaged alumni through volunteer or donor activity. The higher alumni rated their satisfaction with factors present in their student experience and alumni relationship, the higher the likelihood that they stayed connected with and demonstrated their commitment to their alma mater. Recommendations for further research and for designing student and alumni engagement strategies are provided. / xiv, 195 leaves ; 29 cm

The Federal Constitution of 1988 enshrined education as a right of all, including expressing that the State must guarantee its access to the highest levels, giving universities the possibility of autonomy in didactic-scientific, administrative and financial and patrimonial management, through the annual reserve of sufficient resources for its maintenance and development. However, the values allocated to higher education are scarce and do not meet the needs and challenges of institutions, which can lead to their stagnation, precariousness of their structure, equipment obsolescence and a decrease in the quality of services. For this to be avoided, it is necessary to increase your budget, which can be achieved through the raising of external resources. Given this context, what strategies of fundraising could be applied in the UFCG, considering the context of its different Teaching Centers? The general objective of this study is to analyze and present strategies for raising external resources applicable to the UFCG, considering the context of its different Teaching Centers, in order to collaborate so that its sustainability and financial autonomy can be achieved, making possible the overcoming of budgetary constraints. For this, an exploratory, descriptive and multi-case study was performed through the qualitative analysis, whose data were collected through questionnaires with the directors of the Centers that compose the university. Through the results, it was possible to carry out the organizational diagnosis of the university, to raise its investment needs, to demonstrate the strategies of fundraising, to discover the difficulties in its adoption and to verify the aptitude of the directors in the implementation of other strategies still not used. Finally, a plan of action was drawn up that allows the implementation of strategies to
attract external resources in an institutionalized way.

The role of entrepreneurship and uncertainty with reward-based crowdfunding in the digital ageRosinski, Benjamin January 2018 (has links)
Crowdfunding is a transformative service innovation, a novel and revolutionary way for entrepreneurs to obtain funding for their start-up ventures. This study explores the phenomenon of reward-based crowdfunding in relation to entrepreneurial behaviour and decision-making, as well as the relationship between the entrepreneur and the community. Following a case-study approach, the phenomenon is described based on existing literature and collected empirics from five qualitative in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs performing on Kickstarter. The findings of this study reveal, that reward-based crowdfunding reveals several mechanisms, which attract entrepreneurs to execute their activities and deal with uncertainty in a safer way. These activities refer to (1) independency from traditional investors, (2) creative and effectual reasoning at affordable loss, (3) extending the entrepreneur’s social network via the internet, and (4) utilizing web-based platforms for co-creation of marketing, communication, product design, and brand development. This may lead to adapted forms of entrepreneurship in the future.

Fiscal responsibility and financial paradiplomacy: a recent experience of the state of creditworthiness Cearà / Responsabilidade fiscal e paradiplomacia financeira: a recente experiÃncia creditÃcia do Estado do CearÃRicardo Wilson de Sousa Bessa 13 April 2011 (has links)
nÃo hà / In a recent period with significant and increasing participation by subnational governments â mainly in emerging countries composed by federated states â in international economic relations, this article intends to analyze the influence of macroeconomic, fiscal and politic variables policies at raising the necessary funds by Cearà State from international organizations. CearÃâs austere fiscal management and pro-activeness financial paradiplomacy have provided the credibility needed to get external loans from multilateral and bilateral agencies. The average annual amount of this fund raising is R$ 160 million during the period from 1999 to 2008, representing 40% of the total volume. Thus, based on an ad hoc linear multivariate framework, we can evidence the fiscal reform positive impact, besides the negative influence caused by changes of State executive power management. These loans were also influenced positively by the relative offer and mainly by parallel
paradiplomacy effort so that an increase in this variable by 1% implies the increase of
0.22% in fund raising.
A gestÃo fiscal austera e a prÃ-atividade paradiplomÃtica financeira deste estado tÃm proporcionado
