Barriers to the development of smart cities in Indian contextRana, Nripendra P., Luthra, S., Mangla, S.K., Islam, R., Roderick, S., Dwivedi, Y.K. 26 September 2020 (has links)
Yes / Smart city development is gaining considerable recognition in the systematic literature and international policies throughout the world. The study aims to identify the key barriers of smart cities from a review of existing literature and views of experts in this area. This work further makes an attempt on the prioritisation of barriers to recognise the most important barrier category and ranking of specific barriers within the categories to the development of smart cities in India. Through the existing literature, this work explored 31 barriers of smart cities development and divided them into six categories. This research work employed fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique to prioritise the selected barriers. Findings reveal that ‘Governance’ is documented as the most significant category of barriers for smart city development followed by ‘Economic; ‘Technology’; ‘Social’; ‘Environmental’ and ‘Legal and Ethical’. In this work, authors also performed sensitivity analysis to validate the findings of study. This research is useful to the government and policymakers for eradicating the potential interferences in smart city development initiatives in developing countries like India.

Comparação entre os métodos Fuzzy TOPSIS e Fuzzy AHP no apoio à tomada de decisão para seleção de fornecedores / A comparative analysis of the methods Fuzzy TOPSIS and Fuzzy AHP to supplier selectionLima Junior, Francisco Rodrigues 25 February 2013 (has links)
Muitos estudos da literatura propõem o uso dos métodos multicritério fuzzy TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) e fuzzy AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) para apoiar a seleção de fornecedores. / Supplier selection has a significant influence on the cost, quality and delivery of products of the buying company. Therefore, supplier selection has become a very critical activity to the performance of the buying company. Several studies presented in the literature propose the use of fuzzy TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) and fuzzy AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) to aid the decision process of supplier selection. However, there are no comparative studies of these two methods when applied to the problem of supplier selection. Thus, this paper presents a comparative analysis of the methods fuzzy TOPSIS (Chen, 2000) and fuzzy AHP (Chang, 1996) applied to the problem of supplier selection. A descriptive quantitative approach was adopted as the research method. Algorithms of the methods fuzzy TOPSIS and fuzzy AHP were developed in Matlab© and applied to the selection of suppliers of a company in the automotive production chain. Five suppliers were evaluated regarding quality of conformance, cost, delivery, profile and relationship. The weight of the criteria and the performance of the suppliers were evaluated by specialist opinion from the studied company. The methods Fuzzy TOPSIS e Fuzzy AHP were compared in terms of ability to support the group decision, supplier qualification, final choice of suppliers, buying situations and modeling decisions under uncertainty. The efficiency of the methods with respect to computational complexity and the required user interaction was also compared. The comparative analysis shows that Fuzzy TOPSIS presents better than Fuzzy AHP performance, especially in scenarios in wich many alternatives are evaluated. Thus, Fuzzy TOPSIS is more flexible and appropriate than Fuzzy AHP to deal with supplier selection problem. This paper presents a new study, comparing the methods Fuzzy TOPSIS and Fuzzy AHP. As commented by Ertugrul and Karakasoglu (2008), a study such as this can contribute to the advance of knowledge, helping researchers and practitioners choosing more effective approaches to supplier selection.

The application of land evaluation techniques in Jeffara Plain in Libya using fuzzy methodsElaalem, Mukhtar January 2010 (has links)
This research compares three approaches to land suitability evaluation, Boolean, Fuzzy AHP and Ideal Point, for barley, wheat and maize crops in the north-western region of Jeffara Plain in Libya. A number of soil and landscape criteria were identified to accommodate the three cash crops under irrigation conditions and their weights specified as a result of discussions with local experts. The findings emphasised that soil factors represented the most sensitive criteria affecting all the crops considered. In contrast, erosion and slope were found to be less important in the study area. Using Boolean logic the results indicated only four suitability classes (highly suitable, moderately suitable, marginally suitable and currently not suitable) for all crops. In contrast, the results obtained by adopting the Fuzzy AHP and Ideal Point approaches revealed that the area of study has a greater degree of subdivision in land suitability classes. Overall, the results of the three approaches indicated that the area under consideration has a good potential to produce barley, wheat and maize under irrigation provided that the water and drainage requirements are met. Comparing the three models showed that each suitability class derived from the Boolean approach is associated with low and high values for joint membership functions when derived from Fuzzy AHP and Ideal Point approaches respectively. In other words, the two fuzzy approaches have shown their ability to explore the uncertainties associated with describing the land properties. The richer overall picture provides an alternative type of land suitability evaluation to Boolean approaches and allows subtle variations in land suitability to be explored. The Fuzzy AHP approach was found to be better than the Ideal Point approach; the latter was biased towards positive and negative ideal values. In the future, field trial plots will be needed to evaluate and validate the results further.

The evolution and convergence of emerging technologies has changed the behavior of audio users' and video consumption. The use of artificial intelligence in the automation of content creation and editing processes has increased over the years. Augmented reality solutions, already widespread on computing platforms, are being used in television studio environments to enrich and make television shows more attractive. The distribution of content through streaming and multiple screens has demanded changes in the way distribution of content of the media operators. The consumer's approach to content creators is generating segmentation of the subscription format for satellite and cable TV operations. All of these changes, linked with the instability of the financial markets, have generated a shift in production models, creating factors that impact the competitive environment of the industry. In this way, the present work has the objective of developing and applying a model for prioritizing the replacement of technological infrastructure in media industries using multicriteria methods, in order to identify in which equipment or systems investments should be made for replacement. The model proposes to generate a tree of hierarchy based on the criteria defined by specialists of the impacted areas, that is applied in a database that contains the assets of the company. In order to define the weights of the criteria, different multi-criteria methods, MAUT (Multi Atribute Utility Theory), AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) are used. As a result, a prioritized list is presented with the ordering of items that need to be replaced.

A Research on the Assessment of Vessel Traffic Operators¡¦ Performance by Grey AnalysisChen, Hsi-ching 20 August 2012 (has links)
The performance of Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) depends upon not only the facilities but the training and operational competence of the VTS operators. In this research, the current status and training scheme of four major VTS ports are reviewed. A fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model is subsequently developed to evaluate the training effectiveness of the VTS operators. The approach proposed enables experts to linguistically express opinions with degrees of truth of which the relationships are continuous. This solves the mapping problems between linguistic terms and discrete numerals resulting from traditional AHP methods. Four hierarchies comprising the factors of goals, competence, modules and subjects are constructed. The weights and priority of the elements for each hierarchy are acquired.
The Grey Interval Measure method is also applied to analyze the training effectiveness and competence of the VTS operators by calculating the upper and lower bounds of the VTS-operator evaluations. The operational competence of VTS operators is judged by the experts invited.
Finally, the interrelationships between the performance and the background indices are appreciated and the alternatives enhancing the performance of the VTS operators are identified. The measures include the recruitment of personnel with higher educational and professional backgrounds and enhancement of the professional trainings for the existing employees. The subjects of the training are also identified in this study. The contents and course hours should be appropriately organized and more attentions should be paid to the topics with higher weights. If the consistency with regard to the training schemes for the four VTS ports can be enhanced to a certain level, the quality of the VTS performance in Taiwanese waters will be increased. The marine safety will also be improved and marine environmental pollutions will be reduced.

The selection of public-financed R&D project using fuzzy MCDMChiang, Yu-Hsiu 19 July 2004 (has links)
Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (fuzzy AHP) is a helpful MCDM approach for the selection of public financing of cooperative R&D projects developed by firms in collaboration with government. A technical committee for Industrial Technology Development Program (ITDP) in Taiwan regularly evaluates and decides proper public financing of cooperative R&D projects. In this study, we first discuss important criteria for R&D projects selection. We apply fuzzy AHP to integrating decisions of members in the technical committee. Especially we utilize crisp judgment matrix instead of interval judgment matrix to integrate subject judgments of these members. Our results indicate that scientific & technology merit criterion (0.389) is most important considered in overall technical committees. Besides that, the project execution (0.260) is more important criteria than potential benefits (0.204) and project risk (0.147) in ITDP selection. Moreover, we utilize the simulation to analyze relative
important of criteria under risky environment. Our results also indicate that the relative important of criteria will reverse when technical committee faces different risk level. Generally speaking, the paper reveals below results: (1) the fuzzy AHP is an appropriate method in multi-criteria R&D projects selection; (2) the crisp judgment matrix is suitable to integrate subject judgments of technical committee; (3) the relative important of criteria will reverse under different risky environment.

Predicting changing pattern: building model for consumer decision making in digital marketKumar, A., Mangla, S.K., Luthra, S., Rana, Nripendra P., Dwivedi, Y.K. 26 September 2020 (has links)
Yes / Consumers have the multiple options to choose their products and services, which have a significant impact on the pattern of consumer decision making in digital market and further increases the challenges for the service providers to predict their buying pattern. In this sense, the purpose of this paper is to propose a structural hierarchy model for analyzing the changing pattern of consumer decision making in digital market by taking an Indian context. Design/methodology/approach: To accomplish the objectives, the research is conducted in two phases. An extensive literature review is performed in the first phase to list the factors related to the changing pattern of consumer decision making in digital market and then fuzzy Delphi method is applied to finalize the factors. In the second phase, fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is employed to find the priority weights of finalized factors. The fuzzy set theory allows capturing the vagueness in the data. Findings: The findings obtained in this study shows that consumers are much conscious about innovative and trendy products as well as brand and quality; therefore, the service providers must think about these two most important factors so that they can able to retain their consumer in their online portal. Practical implications: The analysis shows that “innovative and trendy” is the first priority factor for the consumers followed by “brand and quality” and “fulfilment and time energy.” The proposed model can help the marketers and service providers in predicting customers’ preferences and their changing pattern efficiently under vague surroundings. The outcomes of this research work not only help the service provider to update their products and services according to consumers’ needs but can also help them to increase profit and minimize their risk. Originality/value: This work contributes to consumer research literature focusing on problem evaluation in the context of changing pattern of consumer decision making in digital era.
