FrankZlicer : Direct slicing using arcs

Franzén, Johan January 2019 (has links)
3D printing a CAD modelnormally requires conversion into a polygon mesh, usually an STL-file, in orderto be able to load the model in the slicer. This conversion destroys roundsurfaces and replaces them with flat surfaces. Slicing a polygon mesh resultsin one or more polygons, consisting of a number of straight lines. This canaffect both dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness. Modern 3D-printerscan, in addition to straight lines, handle arcs. However, today’s commonslicers can not generate arcs as the input does not contain any curvedfeatures. This project aims at finding an alternative solution. By directslicing of CAD models the slices can contain arcs, and the slicer can producearc commands for the 3D-printer. During this project a prototype slicer isconstructed as a proof of concept. The prototype handles STEP-files as inputand creates both linear and circular movement for the 3D-printer. The resultsshow that both the intermediate files (STEP/STL) and the resulting G-code filescan get smaller, yet preserving the original shape, by using this method. Theproposed solution has a positive effect on the 3D-printing workflow as well, asthe intermediate files can be imported back into the CAD system. The projectconcludes that there is possibly a bright future for direct slicing, but thereare more problems to solve before it can become reality.

Optimized NURBS Curve Based G-Code Part Program for CNC Systems

Sai Ashish Kanna (5931080) 16 January 2019 (has links)
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is widely used in many industries that needs high speed machining of the parts with high precision, accuracy and good surface finish. In order to avail this the generation of the CNC part program size will be immensely big and leads to an inefficient process, which increases the delivery time and cost of products. This work presents the automation of high-accuracy CNC tool trajectory planning from CAD to G-code generation through optimal NURBs surface approximation. The proposed optimization method finds the minimum number of NURBS control points for a given admissible theoretical cord error between the desired and manufactured surfaces. The result is a compact part program that is less sensitive to data starvation than circular and spline interpolations with potential better surface finish. The proposed approach is demonstrated with the tool path generation of an involute gear profile and a topologically optimized structure is developed using this approach and then finally it is 3D printed.

Návrh a konstrukce CNC routeru pro DPS / CNC router for PCB

Gerják, Rastislav January 2017 (has links)
In mechanical industry, both additive and subtractive manufacturing methods are controlled by instructions in G-code, making it possible to utilize both technologies in one modular device. Main objective is to design, construct, and calibrate multipurpose machine based on RepRap 3D printer, which will be able to use attached spindle to precisely mill light materials. Particular emphasis is given to ability to carve a pattern and drill holes in plated substrate in order to create functional PCB by incision.

TETOUR, Milan January 2015 (has links)
The introduction of this thesis describes the methods for programming CNC machines and their usage in the industry. The next section compares the CNC machine control systems, general programming principles and the current use of shop-oriented programming WOP (workshop oriented programming) machining. Then the thesis describes a TMV 510CII machine and its operation, setting, practical advices and examples of the Fanuc Guide-i control system by Fanuc company. In the final part a practical demonstration of the CNC machining program for the production of the sample parts on the above machine is given.

A Feature Based Design Software For Parts To Be Machined In A Four-axis Cnc Lathe

Hatipoglu, Demiralp 01 September 2005 (has links) (PDF)
A previously developed feature library and algorithm are improved in order to develop a software capable of designing of parts to be manufactured using a four-axis CNC lathe. The developed program is composed of sections which are / part geometry design, process planning, cutting tool and machining parameter selection, part program generation and G-code simulation for verification. The developed program is capable of designing parts which contain axisymetric features for turning and related operations, and non-axisymetric features for milling on facial, lateral and cylindrical surfaces. Implemented design procedure defines a blank material shape that can be circular or polygonal cross-sectioned bar or a pre-manufactured part. A detailed database is created for proper cutting tool selection and machining data determination. User can either define or let the program to automatically select the cutting parameters like cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut for each cutting tool with respect to the workpiece material being machined. After completing design and process planning procedures / information for generation of the CNC program becomes readily available for editing or transferring to the CNC machine tool. User can also simulate the NC program to verify the tool path. User friendly interface, which runs on Autodesk&#039 / s INVENTOR software to visualize the design process, allows design and modifications to be done very easily moreover previously designed parts can be redesigned to produce new modified parts.

G-Code to RAPID translator for Robot-Studio

Nilsson, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
With the emerging development of new technology and the constantly falling prices, more companies will find interest in industrial robots. Until today, the typical robot users have been large scale car manufacturers. But there exists a big potential market within the small to medium businesses that already uses of CNC machines. Attracting smaller businesses to start using industrial robots could open up the doors to new possibilities and increase their production. Unfortunately, most people still lack the knowledge of operating and programming industrial robots. But many companies have knowledge in G-code which is normally used in CNC machines. That is why this work is focussing on the development of a software that opens up the possibility to make use of G-code to program advanced robot paths with minimal user input. By striving for easier handling of robots, the vision about a more efficient and automated society will become one step closer. The introduction straightens out the different basic principles of CNC milling machines and robots. This will introduce the reader and highlight the different similarities and differences that exist between robots and CNC mills. The goal of this work has been to create an add-in application for ABB’s off-line programming software RobotStudio that was able to import at least one type of file format commonly used for CNC milling. The program should be able to handle some basic functionality, the focus has been on the standard iso6983 type of G-code. The project started with a literature study that gave the author a better insight in both the previous research within the area but also deeper knowledge of the systems CNC mills and robots. The work continued with the development of a software able to import the specified file format. The software has been built in C# and is built as an add-in software for ABB’s offline programming software RobotStudio. The result presents a software that is able to read different types of G-code and translate them into generated paths in RobotStudio. The software also has an inbuilt function in order to parameterize the G02 and G03 commands that represent curves in G-code into straight line segments of the type MoveL in RobotStudio.

Švanda, Ondřej January 2020 (has links)
