The Design and Implementation of a GUI-Based Control Allocation Toolbox in the MATLAB Environment

Glaze, Michelle L. 11 August 1998 (has links)
Control Allocation addresses the problem of the management of multiple, redundant control effectors. Generally speaking, control allocation is any method that is used to determine how the controls of a system should be positioned to achieve some desired effect. An infinite number of allocation methods exist, from the straight-forward direct allocation technique, to the daisy chaining approach, to the computationally simple generalized inverse method. Because different methods have advantages and disadvantages with respect to others, the determination of the "optimal" control allocation method is left to the system designer. The many tradeoffs that are addressed during control system design, of which control allocation is an integral part, dictate the need for a reliable, computer-based design tool. The Control Allocation Toolbox for MATLAB satisfies such a need by providing the designer with a means of testing/comparing the validity of certain allocation methods under prescribed conditions. The issues involved in the development and implementation of the Control Allocation Toolbox are discussed. / Master of Science

InterVis: um sistema para geração e exploração interativas de visualizações de informação / InterVis: a system for interactive criation and exploration of information visualizations

Sousa, Jaqueline Zaia de 28 September 2016 (has links)
Because of the growing amount of data available for analysis today, it is common to deal with large data sets, often too complex to be interpreted in their brute form. That is why Information Visualization techniques exist, to facilitate the analysis and interaction with data by humans through graphical abstractions. Motivated by the need to allow end users the autonomy to generate and edit visualizations, this work aims to underscore the importance of end user participation in the creation and support of these graphical abstractions of data. For this purpose, it was developed a system for interactive creation of Information Visualizations based on dynamic data, which aims to allow the final user to generate e edit visualizations according to their need and independently of the nature of the information that should be analyzed. This system was tested using the USE questionnaire, to verify whether this interactive creation of Information Visualizations, without programming, allied to the user knowledge of each applications domain, will be more efficient from the perspective of usability without significant loss of flexibility, as expected. The tests were compound of the tasks execution by individuals of a users group. All the users were able to conclude all tasks of creation and exploration in due time and evaluated positively the system, besides they have been suggested diverse improvement and new functionalities. It is possible to conclude that InterVis already fulfills the initial expectations of this work, although there are still points to be refined in future work

Generating Graphical User Interfaces for Software Product Lines: A Constraint-based Approach

Müller, Johannes 12 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Due to a high competitive pressure on the global software market, in many areas the software industry is moving from hand crafting to semi-automatic or automatic software construction based on Software Product Lines (SPL). Techniques to automate the construction of software products from SPLs are widely available. These can handle variability in source code artifacts but they are inappropriate to handle variability in Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). The main reason is that they are not designed to handle such fine grained configurations as they are required to configure GUI frameworks or toolkits. To nevertheless employ them in GUI generation tasks is complex and time consuming. However, in the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) community approaches to develop GUIs in a model-based manner and with constraint-based techniques are worked on that help automate the construction of GUIs. Therefore, the main hypothesis of the proposed research is that constraint-based GUIs techniques are a well suited basis for reducing the customization effort of generated GUIs of SPLs. The paper proposes a research plan to employ these new HCI techniques in generating GUIs for SPLs.

Enhetsoberoende GUI av larmapplikation

Dahlström, Jesper January 2014 (has links)
The company Attendit have been developing the system product NetAlert™ since 2006.  NetAlert™ has clients for Android, Win 32, and iOS. The product is an alarm system for personal safety which uses a serverbackend with which all clients communicate through an encrypted socket in real-time. The goal of this project was to develop NetAlert™ further, to get a responsive and user-friendly interface that anyone can use, regardless of technical competence. The poll was conducted by means of a questionnaire that users answered. During the development stage, the survey has been in mind, to obtain an application that users find easy to use. Unfortunately, I did not have time to finish the application due there were many hours of troubleshooting, bug fixes and the such, so the time was not quite enough, but I conclude that my user interface is easy to use, visually appealing, and it is suitable for all age groups.

Investigating GUI test automation ROI : An industrial case study

Laurén, Rebecka January 2015 (has links)
This report is the proof of concept that shows how Coded UI can be used for the automation of GUI tests. For this thesis-work, an industrial case study is done on 26 different test cases provided at the company Basalt AB. The problem they had was that testing was very time consuming and was therefore not done as often as needed to keep the level of quality required for the system developed. The method that has been used are called the validation method and the work was according to that divided into five steps: choosing test cases, a learning process, implementation, compare the results and then draw conclusions. Test automation has benefits of time savings and the fact that tests will be reused. Testing will take minutes instead of hours and the tests can be executed over and over again as many times as needed. So by changing from manual testing to automated testing, tests can be run faster and therefore more often. The investment of automated testing will be repaid before the end of the fourth test round. So conclusions can be drawn from the results of this thesis and it shows that it absolutely is worth the investment of automating the testing process.
