Nortje, Carlien 02 1900 (has links)
Huguenot Primary School expressed its need for a scientifically based programme which could be used to implement, within the context of the holistic approach and the community of Wellington, the principle of respect in the current curriculum. Specific components for a guidance programme have been identified by means of focus group meetings gathered from the target population (parents, educators and learners from Huguenot Primary School, and role models within the community). The theoretical base of Kohlberg (1964, 1966, 1978, and 1985) and the three levels of moral development were applicable in this instance. The Gestalt perspective and field theory formed the paradigm of the study. From the qualitative approach, applied research with an explorative and descriptive nature was used to identify and describe the above-mentioned components. The instrumental case study method was utilized as research strategy. A purposive test sample was done in order to compile a representative target population. / Social Work

'n Hanteringstrategie om weerstand tydens terapeutiese intervensie by die adolessente dwelmafhanklike te identifiseer en benut / Caren Louise Marais

Marais, Caren Louise January 2014 (has links)
Drug dependence is a reality in South Africa, and adolescents are often admitted to treatment centres for rehabilitation. However, it seems that adolescents admitted to treatment centres sometime show resistance, which may lead to the underutilisation of the therapeutic programme. In addition, social workers in the drug dependence field do not have sufficient knowledge to handle the resistance shown by the adolescent drug dependant during therapeutic intervention. The researcher is not aware of any current strategies to identify and utilise resistance. The purpose of this study is to formulate a handling strategy for social workers, which will enable them to identify and utilise the resistance that adolescent drug dependants manifest during the therapeutic intervention in order to allow adolescents to make optimal use of their treatment programmes. To achieve this goal, the Design and Development Model of Rothman and Thomas were used in the intervention research. This study made use of qualitative research in order to work in an exploratory and descriptive way. During Phase 1, i.e. the problem analysis and project planning phase, data was collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with five social workers. These interviews were transcribed and analysed using Creswell’s data analysis spiral. Data has also been collected during Phase 2, which consists of data collection and synthesis by utilising existing sources of information, studying natural examples and identifying the functional elements of successful models. During Phase 3, which is the design phase, an observation system has been designed in the form of a questionnaire aimed at identifying resistance in adolescent drug dependants and at determining procedures for the intervention. A prototype handling strategy was development during Phase 4 (early design and development). This strategy may help social workers working in the field of drug dependence to identify and utilise resistance that appears in adolescent drug dependants during therapeutic intervention. / MSW, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Gestalt approach has been used as theoretical support and Amedeo Giorgi phenomenological conceptions have been chosen as method. The dissertation includes 3 chapters. Chapter 1 is based on an exposition in which some theorists, according to their own conceptions and especially under Gestalt viewpoint, show how they conceive anxiety. Chapter 2 shows a systematic review of the literature and presents those investigations which brought up the discussion on the relation between anxiety and alcoholism. The above-mentioned review has captured 53 articles on Psycinfo, Medline, Cochrane, Lilacs, PePSIC and Scielo electronic bibliographic database. The investigation revealed several studies showing the presence of comorbidities between anxiety disorder and the addiction to alcohol. The above-mentioned studies approached alcoholism and anxiety under several points of view, such as alcohol as self-medication to reduce negative feelings, unfavorable social settings and the increase of alcoholism and anxiety disorders, personality features and alcoholism, intervention proposals and many others. Chapter 3 is an article named Inner experiences of anxiety in alcohol users: a reflection under the point of view of Gestalt approach . In this way, 6 participants, inpatients or outpatients under treatment in hospitals specialized in mental disorders as a result of alcoholism, in Goiania, have been interviewed and evaluated. The following instruments for anxiety analysis have been used in the investigation: Semi-structured Interview and Zulliger Test. Results have showed 2 inner experiences in common to the participants: isolation and dependence in connection with the social setting, both of which having so proven the presence of anxiety - or affliction experiences - under the Gestalt point of view. Lastly the study shows that anxiety has proven to be an important phenomenon amongst alcohol users, which has so confirmed previous studies concerning the connection between anxiety and alcoholism. In addition, some specifics between both the phenomena have been emphasized.

Badenhorst, Sonika 10 April 2007 (has links)
The gestalt approach in play therapy is used by a wide spectrum of professional persons operating in the fields of health, psychology and education. The objective of the research study was to investigate the practicality of the gestalt approach as applied by play therapists. A collective case study within a qualitative research approach has been utilized in this study. Ten play therapists had been identified by means of random sampling and a semi-structured interview was conducted with each one. The researcher applied a systematic random sampling as this method prevents bias. The researcher gained information by means of a literature study as well as from discussions with experts. A theoretical framework was formed regarding the gestalt approach and the utilization thereof in practice. The objective of the gestalt approach is to support the client during therapy to enable the client to function as a complete entity. When the client functions as such an entity he or she is able to complete a gestalt. The healthy person according to the gestalt approach will satisfy his own needs without harming himself or others. The gestalt approach consists of several main concepts namely: holism, awareness, contact and contact boundary disturbances, figure/fore ground and back ground, self regulation, the here-and-now concept and polarities. Techniques can be added throughout as the approach is spontaneous and creative. The focus in gestalt approach techniques is based on language usage and bipolar ways of thinking to enable the client to achieve a balanced outlook in life. The client learns to acknowledge and accept the positive and negative aspects of problem situations. An empirical study has been undertaken to determine how play therapists experience and utilize the gestalt approach. A qualitative research approach was suitable as it sheds light on the usefulness of this approach in practice. Semi-structured interviews led to in depth discussions with play therapists. These interviews were recorded and processed according to Creswell’s qualitative data-analysing process. The findings of the empirical study are that: play therapists experience the gestalt approach as scientifically justified; the main concepts and various techniques of the gestalt approach are utilized although there is a need to adapt some of the techniques in practice; the gestalt approach can be utilized in conjunction with other approaches and the gestalt approach can be implemented in the treatment of both children and adults. The research investigation has proved that the gestalt approach is practically useful and thus applied by play therapists in practice. The researcher recommends that further in depth research be undertaken to identify specific techniques that can be combined with the gestalt approach when utilized in practice. Further investigation could also be undertaken in respect of specific problems that play therapists experience in practice. / Dissertation (Magister Socialis Diligentiae)--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Social Work and Criminology / unrestricted

Scheffer, Chantelle Nadine 30 November 2005 (has links)
Ten selected yoga movements were successful applied in Gestalt Therapy to promote adolescent girls' awareness. The girls were between seventeen and eighteen years old. A review of the existing literature exercises indicated the value of meditation, breathing exercises, and relaxation exercises in the Gestalt therapeutic process. Hatha yoga however, offers a variety of movements that can be extracted and used as a resource for the promotion of awareness in the Gestalt therapeutic process. A case study method where research was only used as a tool to gain better insights concerning the use of yoga movements was followed. The study results indicated that awareness of the body, posture; muscles tension, the self, and the environment were promoted. After yoga movements were used as introduction to the session, the social experience of the group discussion afterwards seemed to have been positive. This form of awareness creation can contribute to adolescent girls' process of become aware in Gestalt Therapy. / Social Work / (M. Ed.)Play Therapy)

Engels, Ezelle Valerie 30 November 2006 (has links)
Text in afrikaans / The main object of this research was to present the profile of a child that bullies other children and to place one changeable element, namely self-esteem, within this profile. The description of children that reflect bully behaviour in accordance with the Gestalt approach is absent in most of the familiar Gestalt literature. The Gestalt approach is therefore utilized as a theoretical framework to describe the profile of children that bully others. The empirical research methodology is performed by combining a qualitative and a quantitative research approach. The approach to the research was based on the dominant-less-dominant model whereby the dominant approach, namely the qualitative approach, was utilized. The quantitative approach had a supportive role to the qualitative approach in this research by utilizing a standardized measurement instrument to round off the profile of the child identified as a bully. The profiles compiled of the children that bully others can be utilized as a guideline for Gestalt therapeutic interventions. / Social work / M. Diac.
