Bewuswording by die adolessente dwelmafhanklike tydens die terapeutiese proses: 'n gestaltbenaderingMouton, Carel Petrus Jooste 30 November 2005 (has links)
SUMMARY
Existing research on the therapeutic intervention with the drug-addicted adolescent is limited, especially research that focused on the awareness process during therapeutic involvement.
This study attempt to determine the face value of Gestalt helping aids throughout the improved awareness of the drug-addicted adolescent during the therapeutic process. A qualitative research approach was followed to achieve this goal. The research data is gained by a detailed literature study, as well as by the observation and study of twelve case studies. The value and the possibilities of application of the Gestalt helping aids in the Gestalt therapeutic process with the drug-addicted adolescent, is examined and described. By processing and integrating the assumptions obtained during the empirical study, the data could have been practically applied. As suggested out of this study a guideline can be developed for the improvement of awareness of the drug addicted adolescent. / Social work / M.Diac (Play Therapy)

Text in Afrikaans / The child in early middle childhood experiences certain developmental changes. He is absorbed in the foundation phase of the formal education system and parents are no longer the most important authoritative figures. Social interaction now also includes the school environment and peer groups start playing a very important role. To face the new challenges, the possession of EI skills is of cardinal importance. The ability to observe, recognise and understand personal and other people's emotions and to react correctly is now developed.
The study, a quantitive research process, is directed by holism as the point of departure from the Gestalt approach in which `totality' is a key concept. According to this concept all situations in the child's terms of reference will influence his development, including the parental style of his parents.
The purpose of the study therefore was to determine and describe the correlation between parental style and emotional intelligence. / Social Work / M. Diac. (Play Therapy)

Sexual abuse is a brutal form of child abuse that has reached exasperating proportions in South Africa. This traumatic event has an enormously negative emotional impact on the child victim. This study is directed by the premise that therapists', by means of Gestalt play therapy, should guide these victimized children in dealing with this trauma and its consequences. The research problem for the study was formulated as the lack of guidelines for the therapist to deal with the sexually abused child in middle childhood.
The aim of the study was to provide therapists' with guidelines designed from the approach of Gestalt play therapy for dealing with and empowering the sexually abused child in middle childhood. In order to achieve this goal, qualitative research was employed, while individual case studies were carried out by applying the therapeutic process to three victimized children. The data obtained was analyzed, checked against existing literature, and used to compile the guidelines. Thus, the goal of the research was achieved, namely to provide guidelines for dealing with the sexually abused child in middle childhood. / Social Work / M. Diac. (Play Therapy)

Bewusmaking as fokus in opleidingsriglyne vir vrywillige beradersVorback, Alta Maria 30 June 2005 (has links)
Summaries in English and Afrikaans / Across the world children are affected by factors such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, divorce and loss. More organisations are getting involved in the training of voluntary counsellors. Although these counsellors have the necessary theoretical knowledge they still experience problems in working effectively with these children. Possible reasons for this are these counsellors' own unfinished issues and loss. Within this study the focus is on creating awareness for counsellors within training situations from a Gestalt approach.
As part of the fulfilment of the literature study an empirical study has been done. A qualitative study with a small portion of quantitative research has been done with the implementation of a training programme for voluntary counsellors. Various mediums were used to create heightened self-awareness with regard to various topics. Training guidelines are than given for creating awareness within training situations for voluntary counsellors.
'n Literatuurstudie is gedoen waartydens
aspekte bekom is:
vyf dae geskied.
Social work / M. Diac. (Play Therapy)

This research deals with a play therapy programme that was developed, implemented and evaluated with fifteen adolescent girls from three different ethnical backgrounds, namely Xhosa, Coloured and white. Five girls from each respective ethnical background were selected by means of purposeful sampling. The goal of this research was to implement and evaluate a play therapy programme for die adolescent girl that was sexually abused. In order to achieve this goal, information was gathered and a theoretical framework built with the help of a literature study. A critical investigation was done on existing intervention programmes for adolescents that were sexually abused, a play therapy programme for the adolescent girl that was sexually abused was developed, implemented, evaluated and recommendations were made for the use of the programme with the different ethnical groups, namely Xhosa, Coloured and white. Applied research was done; the researcher exploited existing knowledge to gather new knowledge to address immediate problems that professional people experience in practice. Within the context of applied research the goal of this study was to do intervention research. The researcher used a single-system design, A-B-A-A, to determine the effectiveness of the play therapy programme with adolescent girls from three ethical groups, namely: Xhosa, Coloured and white. A Research hypothesis was made, namely: If the play therapy programme is implemented with the adolescent girl, her self-perception and trauma-dynamic-elements will improve. The researcher used Creswell’s mixed methodology design model. A standardized scale, namely the Child Functioning Inventory - High School, was used to measure the adolescent girls’ self-perception and trauma-dynamic-elements before and after intervention. The researcher conducted a semi-structured interview, in conjunction with an interview schedule, with the respondent’s parent(s) before and after intervention. The researcher observed the respondents during the therapy sessions, field notes were made and every session were describe by means of report writing. The researcher had a follow-up interview three months after the post measurement with the adolescent and parent(s), to monitor the long-term effect of the play therapy programme after termination. The self-perception and trauma-dynamic-elements of every respondent that took part in the research and completed the therapeutic process, improved. The conclusion can therefore be made that the play therapy programme can be used successfully with the three ethnical groups, namely Xhosa, Coloured and white. / Thesis (DPhil (Social Work))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Social Work and Criminology / Unrestricted

Text in Afrikaans / This study is about the provision of a prototype court preparation programme for the primary school child that had been sexually assaulted. The programme is developed from a Gestalt approach.
Literature regarding several existing court preparation programmes was studied and compared in order to identify certain themes for the child's preparation. Knowledge regarding the court, procedures and the functions of the various role players was conveyed to the child with emphasis on the child's role as witness. The research strategy utilised in the study was that of the intervention research and specifically the D&D-model that comprises six phases. The study incorporates the first three phases plus the first step of the fourth phase. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were utilised to establish which themes could be addressed to support the child towards being a credible witness. These themes are summarised in the court preparation programme and are addressed from the Gestalt approach. / Social Work / M.Diac. (Spelterapie)

'n Spelterapeutiese program vir die emosioneel beseerde pre-adolessent: `n gestaltbenaderingBekker, Greta 30 November 2003 (has links)
Emotional abuse is present in all forms of abuse and neglect, which implies that emotional abuse has a devastating impact on all the developmental factors of the pre-adolescent in the phase where he is striving towards independence and where his relations towards his environment are crucial. The Gestalt approach forms the basis for this recommended program, and makes provision for a holistic approach, which brings the child in contact with himself, his environment and his perception there of. The study focuses on a descriptive research methodology and according to the first five phases of the intervention research design, developed a play therapeutically program for the emotionally hurt pre-adolescent within the Gestalt approach.
A literature study was undertaken to establish a theoretic perspective on the following aspects:
 The impact of emotional abuse on the pre-adolescent within the boundaries of the family system.
 The influence of abuse on the development of the pre-adolescent and how a child can be assisted through play therapy.
 A theoretic foundation of the Gestalt approach and the application of this approach within the theoretic play therapeutic process with the pre-adolescent.
The above mentioned theoretic perspective answered the first research question.
An empirical survey was done to supplement the literature study. A qualitative study was done and the play therapeutic program was implemented. The program was implemented through eight sessions and by utilizing eight activity forms. Through this process direct, systematic and participant observation could be recorded directly on the activity form, which took the format of a case study.
The above mentioned empirical research and measuring scales answered the second research question.
As a result of the study the conclusion was reached that a play therapeutic program for the emotionally hurt pre-adolescent within the Gestalt approach can be successfully implemented and that the pre-adolescent can be empowered by the use of this program. Two measuring scales confirmed the results of this program. Recommendations with regard to the content of the program as well as further research as a result of the conclusions were formulated. / Religious Studies and Arabic / D.Diac (Play Therapy)

Hanteringsriglyne aan spelterapeute on adolessente by te staan wat slagoffers van okkultverwante geloofspraktyke was / Guidelines for play therapists to assist adolescents who had been victims of occult related religious practicesLategan, Louis 11 1900 (has links)
Satanism has a destructive effect on the development and wellbeing of the
adolescent and is known to influence all levels of his or her development.
Satanists use a variety of forms of entrapment and their focus on the individual’s
need of worldly goods, wealth and acceptance makes the adolescent easy prey.
During this study the lack of guidelines, for play therapists who became involved
in the handling of adolescents entrapped in Satanism, was identified as the
research problem. Bearing in mind the research problem, the aim of this study
had thus been formulated, namely to formulate guidelines according to which play
therapists will be enabled to address the problem of adolescents entrapped in
Satanism. To fulfill this aim, the researcher had gathered information by means of
qualitative processes, based on evidence. / Social Work / M. Diac. (Play Therapy)
