Blurry Lines

Pierre, Malin January 2023 (has links)
In my artistic practice I have challenged myself with both the visual and the technical parts, letting playfulness and intuition stand in the centre for my working method. As time has gone by I have created a universe where I mix techniques and materials and challenge the norm of where an object starts or ends and also a crossover between genres. This is also the reason I have named the paper ”Blurry Lines”, because the lines between the materials and the genres are so vague.I began with the idea of transforming textiles into glass, and my work has evolved into a concept where the materials communicate and appear in unexpected combinations. My concept focuses on the inherent contradictions of glass, which is neither liquid nor solid but instead an amorphous solid that lies somewhere between those two states of matter. I am interested in exploring this idea of being in-between.

Predicting Southeastern Forest Canopy Heights and Fire Fuel Models Using Geoscience Laser Altimeter System Data

Ashworth, Andrew Lee 09 August 2008 (has links)
The Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) is a waveform Lidar system carried on board the Ice, Cloud, and Elevation Satellite (ICESat). This study tested the use of GLAS data, from the L3e and L3g campaigns, to estimate total canopy height. GLAS footprint locations were sampled for ground truth. The GLAS-derived and field-derived canopy heights portrayed good correlation (R2= 0.8354). This study examined two representative fire fuel models within forests in East-Central Mississippi. GLAS waveforms were compared with field data for fire fuel models 9 and 10 of the fire fuel models described by Anderson (1982). GLAS data intensities were extracted and averaged to create predictive variables. Two variables were applied in Logistic regression to predict the probability of belonging to either fuel model (overall accuracy = 0.6875).

Identitetskris : En posthumanistisk läsning av Hjalmar Söderbergs Doktor Glas / Identity Crisis : A Posthumanist Reading of Hjalmar Söderberg's Doctor Glas

Karlsson, Mikaela January 2017 (has links)

Nilsson, Janina January 2013 (has links)

Söderström, Mikael January 2009 (has links)
The present essay is a translation study on the two French versions of the Swedish novel Doktor Glas, by Hjalmar Söderberg. As one among relatively few Swedish novels of its time, Doktor Glas has been translated and re-translated. The main purpose of this study is to identify and explain differences between the two French versions of Doktor Glas, concerning the ways the literary style of the Swedish author has been translated. By focusing on the methods of translation (transitions, omissions and the use of footnotes) used by the different translators, I examine to what extent the later ones have been successful in rendering what I call the “söderbergian” style/”le style söderbergien”. For this purpose, certain passages from the two French versions have been examined and compared to the corresponding passages within the original text. The different translators have used different methods of translation, some of which are and have sometimes been considered as controversial, for example in terms of their capacity to render the author-specific style into another language. A main conclusion in this study is that the re-translation is the more faithful of the two French versions of the “söderbergian” style/”le style söderbergien”.

Effects of Flow Control on a Modified Glauert II Airfoil Section

Wesley, Benjamin Fredrik January 2007 (has links)
Several active flow control, as well as passive flow control, schemes were applied to a modified Glauert II "laminar" airfoil section. Zero mass-flux oscillatory suction and blowing and net mass-flux steady suction, or steady blowing were applied through a segmented spanwise slot. Static and dynamic pressures were measured. Pressures around the main element and within the wake were analyzed in order to gauge the performance through aerodynamic coefficients. Unsteady AFC was found to be effective as well as efficient. Several flow visualization techniques were used to aid the static analysis of the pressure distributions. Separation bubbles, recirculation zones, jump in stagnation location, spanwise-, and streamwise vortices were visualized. The present research attempts to quantify the control efficacy of unsteady zero mass-flux control and it's ability to reattach the flow and/or prevent separation. The concave curvature of the ramp was of concern as were the flow instabilities present due to the concavity.

Glaset i Centrum : En fallstudie på New Wave Group

San Pedro, Marcus, Gustavsson, Malin January 2008 (has links)
Seen in many trends and studies, consumers of today feel a growing desire to experience the uniqueness in products and services. This is forcing companies be more innovative and creative in their marketing, in order to distinguish and differentiate themselves and their products/services. We believe that creating a top-to-bottom experience strategy is one way that a company can succeed in this. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and clarify how a business can reinforce their product experience through a complete experience strategy. In order to demonstrate this we have made a case-study research for the New Wave Group, advising them on how they can place blown glass art at the heart of the town of Kosta. The authors have used qualitative methods and an abductive approach. Four interviews have been completed with executives from the New Wave Group, including the project manager, hotel manager, head of the Kosta Boda smeltery and head of guides and visitors at Kosta museum. The theories used are related to experience strategy and will in the analysis be interrelated to clarify their common ground. As can be seen in the analysis the authors have discerned a connection between the lack of clear marketing strategies and the unchecked entrepreneurialism within the company, and how this has caused the company to project a less comprehensive view. A model created for this thesis, will firstly show that the quantity of visitors from different segment does not correspond with the volume of experiences given, and secondly how the gap between these can be reduced. The result of this analysis will provide the New Wave Group with innovative solutions and strategies that will make this reduction a success.
